I tested for over 20 years, I can honestly say it was lucky, never had an appeal, but several 'discussions' with bosses and customers about test results. It's such a thankless job, if you fail a fault, the owner thinks you're an asshole, but on the other hand, if you pass that fault, or pass and advise, and the car is then sold, then you're an asshole for not failing it. As for backup from the ministry, forget it, they have targets to meet, and weather you're right or wrong is as good as immaterial....
yeah as a customer I can see why some owners get upset; handed in my car which is driving fine but failed on the rear bushes... no knocks, no nothing. You can easily get the feeling the garage is out to screw me. The car is a 2005 fiesta with 100,000 miles on it so I can give the garage the benefit of the doubt this time. But I am going to be watching some of these videos so I can at least check over my car first before I hand it in.
@@mikesully110 these cars I'm told you have to be careful with the rear bushes as i have seen a few photos where the fiesta on around that year have lost there rear axles . I know this as I'm learning the trade at the min . Hope this helps
@@diesalweasel I had the rear bushes done for the MOT, but I think something is wrong because now my rear nearside wheel bearing is rubbing bad, getting worse every day. But less than 2 years ago the same thing happened, my rear nearside bearing started rubbing and I had to replace it. Maybe I am misremembering and it was the rear offside one I replaced 2 years ago, but I am sure it was the nearside one. and now less than 2 years it is failing again?
I read the manual for the vehicle inspection for my country and it is 80 pages long, if the inspector was to check everything most older cars would fail. For instance my car which is 17 years old has xenon lights which have to have headlamp washers and have an auto levelling ballast system as all cars with xenon lights do. None of these work in my car, once it failed in one test centre for the headlamp washers so I bought it to another test centre that didn't have a absolute prick going by the book for everything.
You should only jack where tge manufactures say the testing manual at this point was causing damage to car because they manual would say thus type suspension jack here but the manufacture design meant these general jacking point could cause damage to the car. In the 1990 a number mot station got big bill for following the test manuals jacking procedure alwsys follow the manufavture jacking, I had it recently with 2012 Peugeot 3008 in spain They had never seen the suspension set up used for uk car the high spec uk models have a hydraulic system to counter leaning in corners. But so they cohtacted psa and asked about they did not blindly follow the mot(Spain ITV) guide. It important mot tester have access to upto date vehicle specs.
I'm absolutely fastidious about the way my cars drive and operate. But this bloke, however, is one of the most irritant bastards I've even had the misfortune to witness, even on You Tube.
