Despite what people say about reliability the inline engines these things had would go on forever

I have the same jeep and year. mine is dark green with tan interior. will have 5 years this coming March 2022. 108000 miles bought it with 96000 no problems. had a 95 yj 4.0. traded it for a small truck. biggest mistake I ever made. after about 15 years wanted another jeep and bought this one. very happy with mine.

anything i should be aware of or ask about when buying an older TJ. Currently looking at a 2000 TJ with about 140k miles. Want to make sure its not a dud

I love my Jeep, I got the tuxedo cat edition 97 wrangler for the upgraded pur-fur-mance package. It makes every sunny day off an excuse to go cruising around trails or going to a new place and taking the back roads. I recommend everyone at least rent one for a weekend to see how much fun they can be.

I think the Jeep can be a great commuter vehicle despite some of its challenges. I originally bought mine as a commuter. A great advantage is that they are one of the cheapest vehicles to maintain. You could theoretically just keep it going for decades, and even if major repairs we're needed at some point, you could still come out way ahead. And have tons of fun along the way! JEEP wave!

I believe by 98 they used the Chrysler 2.5,...same as the Dakota, spirit/acclaim etc. The iron Duke was long gone....I do believe.

Actually, it is the AMC engine. It was the 4 cyl used in Wranglers from 1987-2002. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AMC_straight-4_engine

I bought my 97 2.5 automatic tj for $3,300. It’s my only vehicle so for me I have no other choice but to use it as a daily driver.

I loved your video. I have the exact same Wrangler. Same option package as well. Including the Gunmetal paint. Only difference is mine is a 1997. I am the original owner. It has spent the past 25 years in my garage here in SoCal. So, there is no rust. And it has very low miles. It was nice to see someone with the same package, and, I appreciate your honesty about the vehicle. Yes. It is no Lexus SUV. But, it is everything I expected when I bought it. Hence the 25 plus years of ownership and pampering.

any suggestions when looking for a good quality TJ? Trading in my 2017 JK so I'm looking at a 2000 Wrangler TJ Sahara with about 140k miles on her. Worth 14k. Not sure if a good investment or not. Do these older jeeps stand the test of time
@LAMB53087
@LAMB53087 2 года назад
@@anthonylozano8035 TJ Sahara is a good package. The only suggestion I have is if you were to find an SE with a 2.5 four cylinder, I would avoid an automatic transmission. I have heard the 4 cyl. and automatic are a poor combination. However, from personal experience the 4 cyl 2.5 is fine with the 5 speed manual.
@TheGreatOutdoorAdventure
@TheGreatOutdoorAdventure 2 года назад
@@anthonylozano8035 Both engines are basically bullet proof, and the technology in the JK is just not present in the TJ so hence... not much that can really go wrong. The one issue these do have is leaking over time, but that can be an issue with any vehicle. I had to have my differential seals and rubberized items changed recently, but it wasn't much effort to get that done.

So true about the daily driver aspect. Unless you live in a state with loose green laws eg:no gas taxes it probably wouldn’t make sense to use the tj for driving around

Spot on review. I have a 97 SE equipped exactly the same. Everything you said is true. Love my jeep and will never part with it. I live in Pennsylvania too. Where were you when you filmed the end of the video?

Thanks! We were in upper Bucks County where there are a number of gravel roads and creek crossing not far from the Delaware River. There is also an vintage plane airport near there as well that makes for a great rest stop if you are adventuring over there.

There so underpowered
@TheGreatOutdoorAdventure
@TheGreatOutdoorAdventure Год назад
Not really built for speed, but not underpowered in terms of what you need for off-roading. Been through the pine barrens many times with no issues. Also been on roads with an 85mph speed limit without issue. You won't be winning any drag races though. That all being said, I really don't see the need to put a fast V8 in a vehicle with the aerodynamics of a brick. :)
