There are disgusting thieves lurking around but the other question is how do they get shipped out of the country in containers, and allowed to leave the port without legal documentation?
Connections, someone working on the inside for a cut of the money. That’s the most plausible answer, nearly impossible to ship a stolen car across the continent without some kind of inside help.
Yeah that seems very inefficient. I mean the time, cost, and logistics, alone to get it to Nigeria. You'd be losing a lot of money just getting it there.
This can be easily be stopped if car manufacturers want to do that. They deliberately using low standard security systems in car. Who benefits if car is lost ??
You don't have to scan all outgoing (to Nigeria) containers. Just ban exports of vehicles to Nigeria. Problem solved. No cars will be stolen from any country henceforth. 😂
What was wrong with old-fashioned keys? They were more secure, and much, much cheaper to get spare keys. $500 to replace a key fob is absolutely ridiculous!
You guys keep calling a Highlander a 4Runner. You said he lost a 4Runner. Then you found a Highlander and said "We confirmed this 4Runner is the same one the dude lost". Except it's a Highlander not a 4Runner. Did you guys mix the word? Or did his 4Runner turn into a Highlander during transport? *Edit:* Oh kk. He said he seen pictures too. It appears you guys accidentally used the wong word and kept calling it a 4Runner by accident.
I worked in international shipping for several years, really enjoyed RO/RO and breakbulk shipping the most. Anyways, I recall rumors of insurance fraud stolen cars being shipped overseas.
why are shipment leaving toronto ports when the police knows who is doing it.. a lot of ppl and getting money under the table from all these carjacking
Some Nigerian nationals are committing crime too in Philippines, cuz they knew the laws in Philippines are so lax. Foreigners can easily enter Philippines even without background check. So sad.
@@lilianopara7347 oh come on, do we need to show you substantial evidence before you start believing? If you ever come across them please teach them ethics. Lack of ethics is what's driving them crazy not poverty.
My sister's car was stolen from Westmount. The police didn't even bother to look for it, but they will fine you if you park the car. (even if you live there) There is no way, all these cars go through Canadian ports without dirty cops and and port workers helping this gang.
Those ports have thousands of containers waiting to be shipped and they get them on those ships fairly fast. Canada prides itself as an export country y'know. It isn't the port authority or the cop's job to find your car but CBSA. They don't have the staff to constantly monitor thousands of containers since the gov't doesn't really prioritize this crime since there's insurance.
They probably have a way to get by all the legal checks. Like others say it is all organized crime and they probably own the ships carrying the stolen cars.
Highly disgusted by the thief, legal shipping process, the audacity/stupidity of the thief to leave the plates on and the annoying fact that inspite this investigation he is not going to be reunited with his car or for the car to be returned to its country/home. If the Dealer is heavily fined, he would release the thief.
I came to Canada (permanent resident) from the USA in 2006, and had to jump through numerous circus hoops to bring my 2004 Saturn over to Canada. As difficult as it was wading through the immigration morass (close to two years) it seemed even more difficult (and expensive) to get my car over. There is some massive skullduggery afoot here.
I was about to take a jog a month or two ago and literally a tow truck was positioning itself in front of my car confused I was about to ask why they were about to try to tow my car the guy looked at me said he made a mistake and took off never thought much of it
I am a bit confused as to how this is possible. In America, my understanding is that you need a car's title in order to ship the car, is it the same for Canada?
Its all organized crime. They can probably create a new Title for the vehicles. Or where they are going, Nigeria, etc, Titles are not important. Just sell the cars.
Ya because they make cares without keys now .. it's purely wrong to not need a key for your own car. I literally picked up a rental. Starts without the key. Where's the safety features nowadays ??
The cheapest solution is to store the electronic key 🔑 fob in a FARADAY pouch. My truck is push button start and my wife got me two FARADAY pouches from AMAZON. Or, if you are cheap wrap the FOB in foil.
Having your car stolen can be a terrible thing however that's what car insurance is for. Be sure to have a fairly comprehensive policy so your prepared for what could eventually happen to you. Don't keep anything that can't easily be replaced in your car, so if it did get stolen it's not the complete end of the world. File the appropriate documents, let go and move on. You'll find it quite liberating when you don't get so hung on materialized possessions
My cousin is hiding in the trunk. Couldn't afford a plane ticket to Nigeria. Wants to meet the Prince he's been supporting on line for the last 3 years
It will be almost impossible to stop. Once a person run your plate your vin number come up, you can use the vin to program a key fob for the car. Car manufacturers makes it too easy to program key fobs
A club lock is a joke really, if they can pick a door lock what will a club do? Same with wheel locks and programmable key fobs. If a thief wants a car on the hot list they are prepared to take it. They have endless resources. When owning a car you'll have to accept the fact there's a possibility of it being stolen, and if it is Bfd. Let go , file a claim and move on. Don't let the news scare you
I'm sorry for those who lost their cars, but to state matters clearly, I have to counter that 26,000,000NGN is 70k+ CAD. It's much lower than that - do your research.
Both are easy for thief's. If its push button they just reprogram a new key on the spot in a matter of a minute or two. Ignition style they'll do it the old fashioned way.
Full corruption by import and export companies as well, there are many insiders working in these shipping companies who let this slip by so easily on both sides Canada and Nigeria. My brothers vehicle was stolen on his parking lot after just walking in his house 5 minutes earlier. His neighbours both vehicles were also stolen a month ago a Lexus suv and a newer Honda accord. My friends brand new 2022 Hyundai Elantra was just stolen about 3 weeks ago as well. So easy for these criminals to do this.
You should be able to go to the dealership you bought your car from an there should be something in the auto manufacturing law to protect these vehicles like tracking information on your car to get its gps location an could me more tracked down
"The Club" is virtually useless and wouldnt stop a teen car thief let alone a professional. Drive something that wont fit in a shipping container. A Humvee or a Caterpillar D6. An added bonus is that nobody will park next to you at the mall or Costco.
If he has the resources (time & money) to involve Interpol perhaps. Heard of an unfortunate situation like his, a Toyota Siena, stolen from Nigeria and sold in neighboring Cameron, little or nothing can be done about it
@@nanfwangdabiring1520 can't Nigerian government take this up, I mean the car should be shipped back to him or the monetary value, my suggestion might not make sense though, but I think since the car has been found it should not be a problem for him to get it back or better still those who stole the car should foot the expenses of getting his car back to him, it is better for him not to know that his car has been found than to know and not getting it back
Thousands of containers of goods needing to be shipped right away and there's enough CBSA staff to monitor those ports. Like looking for a needle in a haystack.
@@email5023 Our Justin Trudeau, not just mine. He was elected by our fellow Citizens and you have to respect that if you are a Canadian but if not that will be different story.
Typical Ford - anything and everything for a buck. How about Ford trying to come up with better anti-theft devices. If put in at the factory the cost could be far less than aftermarket products and I'm sure their engineers can invent something that would work.
More than 4,500 containers a day would have to be opned, unpacked and re-packed each and every day. Container ships are only in port for less than a day to pick up 5 to 10 thousand containers.
