VEIL OF MAYA - We Bow In Its Aura 

this song and album came out when I was a senior in high school. There used to be a local radio station that had a weekly metal show called The Dungeon. My older brother showed it to me and me and my friends would tune in whenever would happen to remember it was on. It kinda started as a joke and funny thing to do because it was so strange hearing such music on FM radio at the time. This is the only song I can distinctly remember hearing on The Dungeon and still vividly recall the exact car ride I heard it on. This song is responsible for turning me and all of my high school friends into metal heads and introducing us to a whole new world of music. Many metal shows and great memories followed. I always end up coming back and paying respect to the song that started it all for me and it's still one of the most unique metal songs I know.

Veil were mental in their heyday. The riffs in this song are still bonkers.

This is still one of the sickest breakdowns in metal, period.

marc uses the phrygian dominant mode for a lot of his songs, which a long with the harmonic minor scale it gives it that egyptian feel

I love this bands earliest albums as much as Deftones earlier albums.That underlying raw ruthlessness is fukn powerful.

0:43 - 1:10 so fucking CHOPPY. Too good. But god damn, 1:10, that shit was groovy and weird as fuck, I miss this so dearly. 2:15 and so forth, such a great ending to a song.

I had an incredible realization today while listening to Born Of Osiris' The New Reign. When you're listening to the music, you forget about what 'genre' it is. Like seriously. You don't even notice that you're listening to Metal or Technical Metal or Prog or Deathcore, you're listening to music, and beautiful music at that. Lesson learned: listen to the music, don't argue about what it is because if you're arguing, you aren't listening. Peace, brethren of good musical taste.

Damn, dude. Had to swing by and check out some old tracks for old time's sake. I played this whole album out to absolute death for almost two years. I remember listening to it back to back about 3 to 4 times a day for a while. It helped me through some insanely tough times. Common Man's Collapse is, in my opinion, the godfather album to listen to if you want to grasp the progressive, melodic death metal sound in it's "core" variant. Other influences as well and decently tech as well. One of the greatest of all time, in my opinion. This album shaped my tastes and influenced me heavily.

Its insane how intricate these guys were with their guitar riffs. I was 19 the first time i heard this and im 32 now....these guys were so far ahead of the game. Everything is so modernized that it all sounds the same to me. Thos here though, always a visible hidden gem. Thankyou for the memories and nostalgia this gives me. Also not sure of planned, but 2:22 to breakdown, something like 5-7-3-5-7 Idk something like that. (During the palm mute part) Im not sober lmao but use to play 3/4s of the song on guitar. Np, oh and another thing that helps a lot is on the really weirdly timed rhythm parts its just a short pattern repeating itself in a way that lines up every few measures with the drum rhythm, for example that last rhythm was really hard to follow for me until I realized it's just a pattern of 5-7-3. This is true for most of their songs, pretty cool writing!
