Vela Luka is a small town in southern Dalmatia, on the western side of the island of Korčula. Vela Luka developed as a sheltered bay and harbor for ships and today it has several hotels and a medical center "Kalos", visited by people suffering from rheumatism.

Vela Luka boasts a significant cultural inheritance which the visitors can see in the exceptional galleries and museums located in the center of town in the Centre for Culture. Centre for Culture is located in a former school building, which holds historical significance in itself.
Vela Luka also has many archaeological as well as architectural points of interest. One of them is Vela Spila (Big Cave), one of the most important prehistoric cave dwellings in Europe. Vela Spila provides an excellent insight into the lives of the Mediterranean Mesolithic and Neolithic people living in this region.
