Indigenous Peoples - Veliche
The Huilliche or southern Mapuche covered an extensive territory. We chose Chiloé as the archetype of the Mapuche-Huilliche space. A rich mestizaje (cultural mixing) developed in this archipelago, blending Indian and Spanish histories, foods, and worldviews. We selected Caguach with its great festival, which fuses the mythical Millalonko with the Nazarene of the current Chilotes, the island of Añihue, and a school in Weketrumao, Quellón, as symbolic spaces representing both the mestizaje and the survival of indigenous myths, customs, and traditions.
