VelociDrone 1-14 - new transmitter setup process

In the coming patch we are introducing an additional method for setting up your transmitter and it's switches (and buttons). This should simplify the process for new customers and allow people to get up and running without needing to understand the setup process in detail.

Thanks for this update. Just bought the game last week (prior to new transmitter setup process). Setup worked great on my Taranis QX7 but was a nightmare on my Turnigy Evolution. Will give it another shot after the update. Thanks!

the evolutions just need the sensitivity turning up on them usually as they don't throw very far and can miss the detection window on the old setup process. That said you are far better using the QX7 with the sim as the evolutions USB drivers are awful (low resolution and laggy).

Thank you for saying what direction yaw and pitch and roll was... that was stumping me, because I was searching "What is roll stick on TX16S" and it wasn't labeling what directions the sticks could do. I just ant to say that this software is so insanely awesome. I was zero to flying through tunnels in under an hour. I'm excited to learn more with it.

For some reason my Velocidrone disappeared from my computer. I used t this morning, then this afternoon it couldn't be found. I re installed it and now I can't get the drone to start. Everything else seems to be working and the stick set up looks like it works. But when I throttle up, nothing happens. Any ideas?

could be any number of things. The program is not able to delete itself - so it disappearing is weird in itself as it wouldn't be caused by the sim unless you installed it incorrectly (most common mistake is running the installer inside the zip file instead of unzipping it first). With regard to the problem you have now - no idea, could be it's just configured incorrectly could be something else - we have a ticket system for this under the support menu on the website if you can't figure it out - this would be the correct place to get support.

When i move the sticks to "follow the sticks," it just keeps on going! No matter the speed i move from corner to corner, it doesn't move to the next step. When i set it up using legacy mode, all of the controls are unassigned, and I don't know how to fly so how am i supposed to set up pitch/yaw/everything else if i don't know how to do these movements?? this is indicative of a controller that just isn't connected or working properly as a usb joystick - ie. it is connected to the machine but just not sending any data

I am only a newbie but I had the same problem as you. Spektrum DX6 with SAILI-G6 USB adapter. My solution: Controller > Legacy Setup Panel > Throttle. Click on 'unassigned' and hold down throttle stick till the 5 second countdown finished. If it didn't work, repeat with throttle stick up all the way. Make sure no other sticks are moving. Repeat for Roll, Pitch, and Yaw. You can fine tune or reset the sensitivity when you click on the 'calibrate' button. I have the feeling the communication problem has to do with the USB adapter.

Hi, I bought Velocidrone and the micro pack. I have a Radiomaster TX16S. controller is recognised, sticks calibated but when in game the drone takes off of its own accord and just flies off at 45 degrees until the screen goes black. No response from anything I do. Any ideas please? Thanks in advance.

total noob here. never flown in simulator or anything before. Is there a way you can set up the controller so that when you fly its not inverted? So when I do the pitch up, it actually looks up instead of down?

My throttle stays in the middle even if my joystick is all the way down. How do I fix this. And my throttle isn’t the first one. Does that matter.

this usually means something like a quarantine has happened (on OSX) or on windows you moved the files to a protected directory like program files. This happens when the sim is unable to access files due to it being in a read protected location or being quarantined in OSX

you probably have weight and offset set for another sim - remove that as otherwise our sim will not see center

Hello ! I need just a quick help, the little quad in he top right corner does react as I want with my controller but as soon as I want to fly in single or in multi mode, nothing reacts but the camera angle and the 'start race' with he countdown Have you heard of anyone who had this problem please? On my Controller the bottom half of the throttle stick does nothing. Props only spin when it's up from the centre position. Is that normal and if not does anyone know how to change it?

@@Zwiesel66 this is because you have not setup any channels connected to those switches. If you can see from the radio monitor screen that the switches are not driving a channel then they will not be outputting anything over usb.

pls help me here. i bought a new macbook pro m1 max and installed the velocidrone on it. But even though ive assigned the controller successfully the drone doesnt take off. i dont know how to fix this. i used to use this controller before on my previous machines but on my new mac its not working. The sticks show as if they are moving, once i press M, but the drone isnt responding. what should i do?

Suggest you open a support ticket for this as we may need to look at a log file - although check you have not turned off auto arming in the scenery selection dialog as this would also cause this. If it is a micro quad you are trying to fly then ensure betaflight is set as the flight controller in the main settings as that is also a way to cause this.

How do I actually connect the controller to my computer so I can later adjust it in Velocidrone. You show just moving the sticks and the controller is already connected to Velocidrone but how do I make the controller make the connection with the computer.

seem to be getting everything working woth Taranis Q X7 except my pitch is reversed i push up on pitch nose goes up I fly backward instead of nose down fly forwar, how do i reverse this, everything else works as intended

any button you wish to work has to be setup and assigned to a channel - otherwise how is anything supposed to know you are clicking it? Only switches assigned to channels will do anything, just like on a real drone.

@@Velocidrone Please note that's my first transmitter and I've never flew a quad other than on a Sim. I can assign buttons as instructed in the video to the switches in the front face of the transmitter. Those switches when I change their position, a bar on the left moves accordingly. On the other hand the switches on the shoulders won't have any affect neither can be assigned.

Same answer...the switches need to be assigned to channels in the radio in order to work. The ones currently working are already assigned to channels by default

I have a Taranis Q X7, which has four 3-position switches in the front. I'd like to assign one of those to my BetaFlight Profiles in Velocidrone. However, when I assign it, it won't assign each position to one profile, but it is like when the position is equivalent to a positive value in the radio, it acts as a button press and just rotates the profiles. Hopefully I explained sufficiently clear. So, is it possible to use one of the three position switches to the profiles in that way, having each position corresponding to one profile? Thanks for the videos, they're being amazingly useful!

Just to add another info, I even tried changing the function assigned to that switch directly in the radio to |f|, hoping that it would recognize both positive values and the zero, but it didn't work as well. The top and bottom positions in the switch would act as button presses, the middle one is just idle but it would still rotate the profiles,

your controller will only send data for switches if they are assigned to a channel output and mixer in the radio itself and then that channel is assigned to a switch. It works the same as a real drone - if you don't setup channel output and mixers then nothing gets sent over usb. Basically not a simulator issue - you need to config the radio.

the answer is in the video - either the switch will push a button if it is pre-configured to do so or you need to configure the switch to move an axis.

My Spektrum DXe controller stuck halfway on Assign Sticks. It gets past first movement of joystick when it asks for the second time to centre tx sticks it doesnt get past that.

Good indication that your stick centres are way off as it is not detecting the centre being within an acceptable range. Check calibration to see what is going on.

How do I install it to a hard drive? I have 15GB of space on my Mac and it gives me a not enough disk space message??

Not enough space to complete an install, you need 21 GB to do an install and that needs to be completely free not occupied by purgeable files. After install it will occupy about 14gb

Everything seems to be running correctly EXCEPT the throttle. In the controller setup menu, the drone in the top right that previews the roll, pitch yaw, and throttle show that the props are spinning very slowly at full throttle. Not sure what I'm missing...

possibly nothing - how fast the props spin is mostly irrelevant, what is important is you get a full range of movement on the throttle in the middle window showing your stick movements

VelociDrone ok got it. I do have full range of movement on the throttle. Also calibrated on app and actual radio. When I’m ready to fly I hear the props accelerating and I can even roll over to a crash with full throttle, there is just no lift ¿

@@CGKFPV this is usually absolutely nothing to do with controls setup and more to do with installation. What you are describing usually happens if the sim is installed incorrectly. This could be as simple as placing the sim folder in an inaccessible location (like program files) or placing the sim foilder on a disk without read/write permissions. It could also be down to not unzipping the installer and installing the sim inside of a zip file. The underlying cause here is the sim being unable to access the database and as such cannot initialise the quad properly.

That will not be a sim issue. That will be your controller inputting bad data.

Hi , Everything seems to work but after choosing a quad and scenery I go to the main start screen, I see my quad but nothing moves only the scenery moves and there is sound but I cant get the quad to move or fly. Why is there no option to set the flight mode? Also, it's not detecting the record, back, rocker wheels, and center button on my DJI FPV remote controller. Is it possible for velocidrone to detect those buttons?

we don't support switching flight modes on a switch as it is a bad habit, flight controllers in real life don't always switch nicely, so it is not a good idea to build a habit of doing this. Velocidrone will only detect what the radio sends ... so if you get nothing for those it is because the radio is sending nothing over usb when you use them.

@@likebliss It is ok to do it on something like a whoop where if things go wrong there is little potential for damage. On a 5 inch or bigger I would not do it. Typically people do this to land (when the quad is closest to you) and this is a bad idea. Much better to just learn to land in whatever mode you took off in using the simulator rather than risk a bad mode switch and it's potential consequences.

Haha I think it could be a great feature to add, with a warning/teaching moment included? I do plan to get a whoop and would love that option to be available with the added risks that I choose to be responsible for.

Great Video. I am trying to setup buttons/axes but I think the buttons are not detected by the game. the sticks are detected and calibrated but i cant see any response on axis side while clicking any button on the controller. any help would be appreciated.

for the transmitter to send a switch output it needs to be assigned to a channel - channels 1-8 on opentx send as an axis and channels 9-16 send as a button.

Hi. I had the same issue. Try to go to Options>Quad Settings>Flight controller and switch between Legacy or Betaflight. This solved it for me.

@@Velocidrone I already updated the driver, i created AETR module on it, the controller is working on DRL simulator, btu for some reason not on velocidrone For the calibration in USB, my raw data show 0 to 2047, i ee you have different values, could this come from there?

Gamepad mode turned on in the main settings or using a transmitter model memory for other sims where weight and offset have been set to 50.

@@ClaireDCassidy click on the moving bar for the throttle axis in the left window to bring up the calibration window and just check that the throttle is moving the full range of the bar - if it is, don't worry about it.

It does this automatically as part of the setup process, you tell it what stick is what function during the setup, so it already knows which stick is which.

I'll give the new calibration instructions a ZERO out of 10. I move the sticks in the direction it asks, I can do that. Then it says something about moving the YAW, or ROLL, or something like that. What the hell is that crap!? Which stick is that!? Where's the pictures for THAT!? I like when it shows left and right, but what the hell are they talking about with yaw & roll? This new calibration is for the expert pilots who have taken classes to know the lingo. No sir, I don't like it!

the most basic of basic aircraft terminology, roll, pitch and yaw. Roll is rotating on the axis from front to rear of the drone, pitch is rotating on the axis running left to right through the drone and yaw is rotating on the axis top to bottom through the drone. Which stick you wish to use for each of these axis is personal preference - which is why we don't show you which stick to move as there is no right answer. Just as there is no right answer as to which stick you wish to use for throttle - which I'm assuming you know what that is.

first have you actually centred both sticks, secondly are you making sure you are not using weight and offset if you are using an opentx transmitter as this will make centre be offset and cause the centre stick detection to fail.

no switches will work on any radio unless you configure them to be assigned to a channel - just like a real quad, switches do nothing if they aren't assigned to channels.

@@ronsone8373 if you don't see the orange bar moving when you flick the switch and the orange bar just stays in the middle position then the transmitter just isn't sending anything or the switch is setup incorrectly. Check the channel monitor on the radio to make sure the switch is sending different values. If you don't see those in velocidrone then the transmitter just isn't sending it. Be aware that any channel beyond channel 8 on an opent tx transmitter is sent as a button and not a channel.

Help! When i move the sticks to "follow the sticks," it just keeps on going! No matter the speed i move from corner to corner, it dosen't move to the next step. When i set it up using legacy mode, allllll of the controlls are unassigned, and I dont know how to fly so how am i supposed to set up pitch/yaw/everything else if i dont know how to do these movements?? Sounds to me like you have a dongle that is sending far too small inputs - to fix this you probably need to turn up the sensitivity slider in the calibration so that it outputs a decent amount. You should be able to see this in the sliders on the left hand side, they should be throwing from empty to full bars and I suspect you are probably only getting very tiny movements - just a guess as you haven't provided much for me to go on.

For reference this was DX6 in heli mode - two axis moving for throttle was confusing the hell out of the controls detection code
