There's a sad backstory to this song. An orphaned girl named Alice is raised and trained as a prostitute by Madam Tarantula, the owner of a local whorehouse. This song is technically Madam Tarantula's point of view to Alice. The sad part is when Madam Tarantula had to kick her out of her house to train the next girl. Personally, I don't consider the madam as a wicked woman since the lyrics does imply that Alice was a clumsy timid girl and with the help of Madam Tarantula she became a woman. Also, I think this might take place in Victorian Period or older. A woman can only do so much in those troubled times as far as becoming a prostitute or marry a nobleman or any man with money. ):
There is nothing praiseworthy about sexual exploitation. You make it sound like this woman helped the young timid girl to be more confident, when she just made money with the girl being used for men’s pleasure.
