CORRECTION: Eresus have a sticky web, I said it doesn’t in the video. Apparently they lay down the silk and brush it with rear legs to make it sticky.
I had to redo our Eresus care video, really wanted to add more clips of the spider. So here she is once again: Koko, our velvet spider, Eresus walckenaeri. Absolutely a must have in everyones collection. Our is often out on display but check it out in the video.

An easy way to make crickets less defensive is to put them in a small plastic tube, close it and shake it hard for a bit. The cricket survives this but is so confused and kinda in a light stupor that it barely fights back when the spider gets it. My jumping spiders also tend to go for the head first, maybe they know thats where the defenses of the crickets are, lol.

I just bought my first one today :) I am so obsessed. He's one of the red ladybirds, and I'm not quite sure what to name him, but so excited!

She crawled on me few times. But I usually don’t hold spiders on purpose. Besides jumpers. 😊

What size tarantula cribs enclosure is she in in this video?

I think it’s like 3inch cube. I’ll see if I can find it and comment if it’s different. She is in 5 inch cube now and only uses 1/2 of it but has one more molt to go to adult.

I keep using Seinfeld references even though I don’t watch it much but there is episode where Jerry dates a woman and she looks different in different light. Maybe that’s the case here 😊

My E. moravicus gets very, very confused after catching prey also 😅 exactly like your one here! Ive also found her engaging in rudimentary tool usage. She presses against the glass to get more leverage when pushing moss around. Crazy! They're pretty confident for such small spiders.

Wow cool to know. Yeah they are so fun to watch. I just got E moravicus too.😊🤚🏻

Hey man, thanks for the great video. I was thinking about getting a pet spider for a long time now. Do you think a velvet spider is a good one for beginners? Also do they need any special care compared to like a rose hair tarantula? Would appriciate a reply ^^ Best regards.

Hey! Glad you liked the video. Thank you! I think velvet spider makes a great pet for beginners. May just be too expensive. Their care is easy: keep them dry in something similar to what’s in my video and feed them once a week. They don’t leave their burrow so they are not on display that much. Rose hair tarantula is also good beginner species but they can hide for months. I haven’t fed mine in six months, it’s just been underground. If I may suggest: jumping spiders make for great pet and generally are easy to care for. Probably my favorite to start with.

I love this species! I have noticed with mine that their web is so sticky sometimes it's too sticky for the spider lol. My EW will have trouble getting her prey off of the web sometimes, she will have to leave it and bite around the prey to get it off then it'll take it into her burrow.
@SpiderCafe

Interesting to hear cause I feel like I read their web is non sticky: Eresus walckenaeri. I just tried and felt non sticky but I need to do more research. They are awesome, I would love to keep other species of Eresus as well. Thank you for your comment 🤚🏻🤚🏻🤚🏻

@@SpiderCafe i heard every spider has 3 type of web - sticky non-sticky fluffy (for cocoons and inner side of their home) they also produce by little different organs.

ok just checked with expert and yes they do have a sticky web! You were right. They lay down the silk and then they brush it with rear legs and make it sticky. If I understood it correctly 😂 Thank you for a civil debate.

i just read a pdf article saying eresus sp (not sure if this sp too) after eating their mom, they will stay together and hunt insects communally and this may last beyond 6th molt, i find it really fascinating. these tiny spiders might be the perfect spider for a communal setup. but i have yet to find anything outside that article unfortunately
@SpiderCafe
@SpiderCafe 2 года назад
Hi! I know about Stegodyphus sarasinorum being communal velvet spiders but never heard anything beyond this one or two species. Definitely gonna keep my eyes open for more information on this.
