Ajahn Brahm is doing great missionary work and contributing to the world on a large scale,..no one has a right to say otherwise. This man is very very wise, and is a sacred soul...who cares if he is famous or rich ? No one can fill his shoes period. He's a GEM. Love & Light ~

I think this guy is great. I have learnt a great deal about MYSELF from this guy. He does seem to enjoy all the attention he gets from his roles. He almost lives the life as a celebrity and I'm not sure how I feel about that. Remember, I'm trying to turn away from consumerism and celebrities for a more peaceful meaningful life.

Gayan Perera Thanks for your note. Actually, unlike many others looking at this path, I have never agreed that you need to sit in a certain way or even be alone in a room to meditate. I do it in many places and at ease.I think when I said about celebrity and consumerism I was feeling let down because before this point, Brahm had just been doing his talks and I was finding some peace there. But when one searches further.... Today I have seen him having a debate over science, looking more like the teacher he used to be, and looking like a 'know it all' and then this 'celebrity' looking video. In other places he mentions his police escort and going on TV etc. This is miles away from a humble monk. Yet, he is happy to play at being a humble monk when he wishes.

JAKE AWAKE Jake, the first thing you said is "I think this guy is great. I have learnt a great deal about MYSELF from this guy", and me and probably many other people can surely say the same, and this is what matters the most. When I tell my friends that I discovered meditation and tell them about some buddhist monk I'm listening to on RU-vid, they get weird ideas. And surely many talks by other teachers are too raw, serious, or full of wise words that mean nothing to an average person. I'm from Poland, us westerners get bored easily. Ajahn Brahm talks in a way that gets our attention, he's funny and down to Earth, puts the wisdom of buddhism in simple words that we can understand. If you're really good at something, you get famous. There's nothing you can do about it. If you want to get your message to many people, you get on TV. If Buddha lived today and went on TV, wouldn't you like him to be escorted by the police? Eckhart Tolle is ten times more a celebrity than Brahm. Honestly, after having watched many videos of Ajahn Brahm, I can say one thing: he's not perfect. Nobody is. But still he's more rational and down to earth 99% of the time than most of the people I've heard. English is not my first language so I don't know what the opposite to "full of shit" would be, but I think Brahm would be just that.

Gayan Perera There are many so called "qualified therapists" in modern world. I prefer the actual ability to help rather than qualifications. Even if Brahm is twisting the original teachings a bit (which I'm not sure he does, I'm just relating to what you said), he teaches really well how to relax and let go. This is the most important first step for a typical, stressed person. Once you know how to do that, you can go meditate, with time you begin to see things more clearly, you see life as it is and you don't need to believe what anybody says - you can see for yourself. This is what Ajahn Brahm repeats in some of his talks: he doesn't ask you to believe anything. He shows you how to relax, meditate, and you can try it yourself and see what happens. I think this is the "permanent solution" you're missing here. It comes from within you, not from him. Again, he's not perfect. But I honestly don't see the evil that you see in him. I think one would have to try really hard to interpret the things he says in a bad way; picking maybe 1% of what he says and interpreting it in a pessimistic way, ang ignoring the 99% of undoubtedly positive stuff he says. I always considered myself a good and compassionate person, but after half a year of listening to his talks, I found even more compassion and joy in myself. I guess one finds in his talks exactly what one is looking for.

Gayan Perera Could you elaborate? Continue what you wrote in the second and third paragraphs of your last comment? What is it, in essence, that Buddha discovered, which other religions and philosophies (and Ajahn Brahm's teachings) lack?

So fit From the age of 7 I had to take medication in2009 my ex got cancer duying in 2011 I never felt sorrow I was glad that he no longer had pain.but I realised that during his illness I had forgotten to ,take my pills, and I wasn't I'll because I could be more aware I eat less and gradually lost weight and .... You know I began trying to, med about 3 years ago I'm still trying! And when my father died I never shed a tear because he is now released from his suffering .trying to meditate is the best thing I ever did when I get some money I will try and buy your book. Amazing! I don't really feel very "merry" even though it's December 25 and everyone else is wishing me one. As a matter of fact, it's been less than a "jolly" month. I'm not depressed or anything -- just kind of Blah. So this morning, I blindly pull up a Ajahn Brahm video and "BAM" this one comes up. And the first thing I hear is "DON'T WORRY, BE GRUMPY!" Just what I needed to hear. Thank you Karma.

"Enjoy the Blahness. Enjoy the Grumpyness. Milk it!" And after only 5 minutes of listening to this great Teacher, I'm busting out, laughing again.

L. Walker, I discovered Ajahn Brahm back in November 2011 by accident (or was it) and I haven't stopped listening to him since. It was what I needed to jump start my practice and path again.

when you own nothing, you own everything so long as you understand what nothingness really does to you physically. Thats why the Buddha emphasizes death that we tend to view as negative thing....it is only negative because we are very attached to life, not because death itself is a bad thing. now, lets some some dubbie with me shall we ?
