Hey Nick! I always appreciate your input! VSC seems to be a major go to for many people with CXL. Have you tried Venetian's Leather Balm? If not, do you know what the difference is from VSC?
Hello, when would you use their Colored Creams? Or would you only use the Neutral one? Thank You. Keep your Great Videos Coming. I watch all of them and learn so much.
Hey Nick, another great review, thanks. I'm trying to find something that will condition but not strip away the patina that my Clarks desert boots in a beeswax have nicely developed. What do you recommend.
i use collonil premium cream to clean and condition luxury leathers , try it you will not go back. for very hard leather i use once or twice effax leather balm, softens and prevents cracking .
Could you do a review on Otter Wax's leather care products? They purport to be "all natural" but I would like to see what the results are of using their products.
I don’t know if I am doing too little, but unless they are specifically dress shoes I just put down a thin layer of 1/3 RW Natural Boot Oil mixed with 2/3 leather honey conditioner, let absorb completely and then follow with a thin layer of collonil leather gel… For dress shoes it’s Saphir all the way.
Very informative video and I agree with your conclusion that Venetian Shoe Cream is a quality conditioner/cleaner for use on Chromexcel (as well as other fine leathers), leather boots and shoes. I’ve used Venetian on several of my Allen Edmonds Higgins Mill boots and calf skin shoes. I’ve been pleased with the results and after the leather dries I haven’t noticed any discoloration. I’ve also used another conditioner/cleaner called Bick 4 which adtvertises quite prominently that using Bick 4 will not darken the leather. From my limited experience using Bick 4 I haven’t darkened any of my shoes/boots. It’s reasonably priced at about $1.00 per ounce. I’m curious if you have heard of Bick 4 and if so, what are your thoughts. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to produce this interesting video. Keep up the good work!
I use Bick4 for fine smoother finish leather, including gloves, leather car seat, jackets. It smell much better than VSC. However, VSC is great for oil tanned leathers like chromexcel and red wing's oil tan leather. It seems to penetrate better into those leather. Both are none darkening.
Hi Ye Cheng Lin...thanks for sharing your thoughts and experience with Bick 4 and Venetian Shoe Cream. It’s great to get feedback from multiple people. I do agree with you that Bick 4 smells better than VSC. I believe I will continue using VSC on my Chromexcel and Bick 4 on my calfskin leather. I buy my VSC from Oak Street Bootmakers out of Chicago, Illinois. OSB sells Venetian Shoe Cream in 4 ounce bottles for $5.00 bottle which is the best price I’ve run across. Just an FYI. Of course, they sell the VSC from their online store. Just google Oak Street Bootmakers if you are interested.
I have a pair of sperry leeward boat shoes in Sahara. Super light colored leather. Put VSC on them and they darkened a lot. I tho no it was because of how dry the leather was.
have you reviewed any of the boots from Spokane Washington, USA? like Nicks, Whites, JK, or Franks boots? very interested on how these $400-$600 boots match up
Yeah I've reviewed White's ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wuf6NuqSSTI.html and I'm getting a pair of Nicks made now as we speak. Northwest boot culture is interesting!
I was born and raised in Washington and had no idea there were so many prestigious boot brands from around here. I couldve gone to their physical storefronts this whole time if I wanted to and I had no idea. WTF man im dumb.
Good timing. I now have a pair of Oak Street Trench Boots and Wolverine 1000 Miles after watching lots of your videos and shopping eBay. After comments in several of your videos I had previously put down to get some of this. Both my current boots are cap toe with leather soles. I am thinking Wolverine Evans next with their rubber soles. Thank you for your videos.
Dude props for getting them on eBay, not enough people do that! The boots look better as they age and they'll last forever, why not save some cash and some break in getting them on eBay?? Wolverine Evans definitely remedies a lot of the issues I have with the 1k Mile so long as the QC is good.
I forgot that I own this wonderful Venetian cream. I tried it on scratch lether shoes and this works perfectly.the scratches are almost gone and the leather shines so beautiful
They darkened my tobacco danner bull runs. Is there a way to get them back to normal color? I literally used like 3 drops on each side of the boot. Def not a crazy amount of conditioner. So it was a light application.
Stridewise I just looked at their shoes after watching this video and they have some amazing looking boots. Reminds me a bit of viberg but unfortunately they don’t have many size options. I’m surprised this company is not more popular then it is because according to their website they support sustainable practices and the shoes are made in the u.s. and the prices are not too high. I would love if you did a video comparing them to redwing and viberg, I feel like these boots are much better then Thursday boot but Thursday has been advertising more through influencers (I bought a pair and they are nowhere near the feel or quality of redwing in my opinion, I’ve got 11 redwing boots) so I’m interested in how this company does versus those two.
i ordered the imperial venetian cream along with a horsehair brush with my thursday captain boots from thursday's website, I am assuming this is the same product and I can follow this same procedure to maintain their boots?
I've been debating whether to purchase Venetian shoe cream, but not sold on the petroleum part. What are you thoughts on Huberds? Their products are all natural.
The petroleum distillates in VSC smells like petro, and the Huberds is smoky smell. Huberds darkens leather much more, and VSC doesn't really darkens. Huberds doesn't polish, VSC make leather slightly shiny. Both are great for oil tanned leather, but VSC is more for fine, smooth, dressy leather, and Huberds are more for matt finished work boots. I use Huberds for thick boots that I want to remain more breathable, and use VSC for boots and shoes that has thinner, smooth finished leather.
I prefer to apply it by hands 😁, I also use Venetian Shoe cream for my Sagara Imperial IV and RW 2907, and avoid using coloured shoe cream (except for dress shoes).
Warut Namatra leather balm is thicker and used to purely condition a shoe. You don’t need to do as often. Cream is used to restore pigment after some nasty scuffs and it will somewhat condition the footwear. Depending on how bad you rough up your shoe, you may not need to condition very often or use cream very often. Depends upon where you live, conditions, etc
Actually, "The Venetian Leather Balm contains additional waxes and conditioners. If your leather requires more conditioning or will require more conditioning we recommend the leather balm." Direct from MFG.
It substantially changed the color of a pair of tan Alden Indy boots I used it on. So color shift definitely can happen. I don't know what the variables are. YMMV.
Trent Austin , thanks for commenting. I watched this video with the exact purpose of trying to figure out what would work best on my brown 405 (calfskin) Indy boots, since I don’t really want them to get any darker. Maybe tan just darkens very easily, but I’m nervous to try something because going lighter to fix it is a lot harder!
I have the natural president Thursday boots....Im looking for a boot that doesn't have that much shine as that one.....would this one be redundant to buy?
Yes saddle soap does not condition leather In the same way as this product, it helps clean the surface of the leather and light condition but not what is truly needed to keep the leather healthy.
If you wear them mostly inside air conditioned office, then they are alright. leather boots doesn't breath as well as dress shoes, and sun will bake your foot inside the boots. Exceptions are military desert/hot weather boots. They have breather holes and special lining inside, and the kind of leather actually insulated the foot from outside temperature.
I’m new to leather footwear care. Is Kiwi shoe polish good or harmful to boots? I am trying to find an alternative since that’s not available in my country. 😞
Jason Ong As a shoe cobbler, I don’t recommend Kiwi to anyone. It’s lower quality, and the ingredients are not the best for nicer leathers. We recommend and sell Saphir products to our customers. Very, very high quality ingredients and great for leathers.
Yes, that’s the stuff. A little pricey but hands down, some of the best on the market. On a side note, our website is being built right now, but we’ll be selling all of these products in the future as well. Potterandsons.com Happy polishing!
Jason Ong I guess it depends upon what type of boots you’re looking for. If you’re wanting a stylish utility type of boot, Thursday boots are top notch, as well as Wolverine 1000 Miles, Redwings and a few other brands. The most important thing to look for in a utility boot is to make sure it is Goodyear welted. I definitely don’t recommend any brand that’s not. If you’re looking for something more like a Chelsea boot, I would primarily stick with brands made in Italy and Spain, and make sure they are, at bare minimum, stitched on the inside (Blake stitched) and preferably have a stacked leather heel block. These are signs of a pretty well-made boot. I believe Beckett Siminon and some of these other newer online brands are worth it. I’ve worked on quite a few of these online brands and, as a whole, they’re pretty good quality shoes/boots for the money and can usually be re-soled a few times. Hope that helps.
When you apply the cream to your boots do you also need to do the inside? I have a pair of Higgins Mill boots I just bought and they are leather lined on the inside.
Rev. Adam L. Sorenson use AE’s leather lotion, that’s all you need. I would not use the cream in this video. It’s used on a Thursday Boot which is far less quality than the mills.
The leather I used the VSC on in this video is the same leather as is used on the Higgins Mill! It's Chromexcel. Thursday uses Chromexcel on a lot of their boots too, but not all of them, some of it is Thursday Chrome, their own leather. I confess I don't condition the inside of the boot but maybe I should...
Hello, what is the good thing to do not have silicones but petroleum? In cosmetic for live skin silicones are fare better than petroleum which there is evil but on boots it would be not as bad if not for en ecological speech I guess. Petroleum maybe is harder to be washed out so it protects better from rain? Silicones for cosmetic use can provide breathability while petroleum not which it sound to me maybe pointless an a real leather shoe but not a bad thing an a real leather shoe (I am thinking for example of leather lined in goretex versus polyurethane) for the silicones when compared to petroleum distillates. What is the real matter?
@@Stridewise Thanks, so the president of Venetian Shoe Cream says that silicones change the colour unlike petroleum. Many years ago I did the mistake to use a petroleum based tanning oil on the sea (however I do not use no more oil under the sun in truth I don't go no more under the sun but anyway) and after some use it ruiner the elastic of my swimsuit which was a water polo swimsuit by a specific big brand who produces very strong and thick and many years lasting longer water polo swimsuits. In my pool there where many people who had their swimsuits from this brand used for years in the swimming pool and they had brilliant colors as new. Their swimsuits from the brand have quite the harder and thicker rubber elastic on the market. I'm questioning myself if these petroleum based shoe creams can affect the rubber soles but I assume they are stronger than the strongest elastic. I guess that the ancient venetians (the Venice lagoon and its high water you know) used something natural like seal fat or beeswax. However being me italian it's a bit of a shame that the president of an italian named brand seems not to be an italian.
Nick, You are not a cardiologist working on a living heart. You are applying shoe cream to leather. The animal is dead. You are applying the shoe cream to leather boots , just like Ophelia applied lotion to my favorite member. when I visited Australia & Cleos on the Nile.
I'm totally a boot guy. I respect you intentions but in prima facia, your videos are kind of superfluous. See how can you produce a bit short, to the point videos. Thanks
