An empty St Marks Square lit up early in the morning with the sounds of tthe bells ringing was so atmospheric. What an enriching and creative lives both of you have. Did you visit the dungeons underneath The Doge's Palace? They are scary enough now, when you know you can just walk out. Imagine being a prisoner there, when it flooded (which happened even then) and knowing that the beauty of the city was above you and the only life you had left was the horror of that prison. The contrast struck me. I hope you and Filippo have an amazing 2023! A magnificent video! (And LOVING the new hair. It must be so much easier to look after!) Thank you for the video!

👍 Thank you for this video which brought back fond memories. It has been my good fortune to visit Venezia five times over the years. Apropos to this video, I can recall quite vividly being there with my wife, at the time, a couple of weeks before Christmas in December 1980. We spent 3 or 4 days in the city without the sun ever making an appearance. It was overcast, cold and damp with almost constant fog. Venezia in winter can produce melancholia in one's psyche if you let it. I always chose instead to focus on the crumbling beauty of "La Serenissima." Fortified with steaming cups of amazing hot chocolate and many "ristretti" we walked the alleyways, bridges and the random "campo" here and there. On a clear cold night after dinner our last day in Venezia, I guided my wife North through "sestiere Cannaregio" to The Ghetto. We wandered through one of its gates and a bit further on came to a "fondamenta" at the edge of the city. There was a full moon and directly under it, we could clearly see snow glistening in this bright light on the distant Alps. It was mesmerizing and I was enraptured, content to stand there taking it all in. Unfortunately, a wind came up and she complained about the cold. So we left but Venezia had one more surprise. As we set out to "stazione Santa Lucia" the following morning, it was snowing, not a frequent occurrence during December.
