Ventana by Megapixel showcases their microLED 220" 6K display at CES 2024, presenting a true microLED technology with extremely high dynamic range.
Check out my Ventana playlist, I filmed several more videos about this technology: • Ventana
Find all my videos with HDMI Licensing Administrator in this playlist: • HDMI LA
Featured at the HDMI Licensing Administrator, Inc. (HDMI LA) Booth at #ces2024 the display allows users to build walls of any shape and size, with the featured one measuring over 220 inches diagonally. The tiles that make up the large display are square foot modules, each 300x300 mm in size, and they connect magnetically on a simple grid, eliminating the need for cables.
The display is capable of processing an 8K video signal on a physical 6K screen, demonstrating the ability to upscale and downscale content. The modular design with magnetic connections makes it a user-friendly DIY TV option, enabling users to easily customize the display's shape and size. The tiles communicate with each other, creating an auto mesh and ensuring a seamless connection.
To address concerns about the security of the display tiles, especially in commercial applications, Ventana has incorporated a safety mechanism on the back. This prevents unauthorized removal, and for large arrays, special maintenance tools would be required for tile removal. The individual modules undergo calibration to achieve consistent color reproduction, and the display offers two finish options: a glossy finish called Liquid Black, ideal for deep black levels, and a matte finish that minimizes glare.
The display is positioned as a cinematic technology for home use, incorporating expertise from the film-making industry. While the current pricing for larger screens starts in the low six figures and can go up to a million dollars, Ventana expects the cost to decrease over time with mass production. The display is not limited by a fixed aspect ratio, allowing users to create unique shapes and sizes.
The product is not only intended for home entertainment but also serves as an architectural tool. The square tiles and their thin form factor mimic building materials, making them suitable for various design applications, such as kitchen backsplashes, walls, ceilings, and more. Ventana emphasizes the versatility of the display, suggesting it could eventually be available for purchase at retail stores.
The processing unit for the display is compact, fitting into a single rack unit, capable of handling 35 million pixels in various shapes and sizes. The display is compatible with common sources like computers, Apple TV, Blu-ray, and gaming consoles. Ventana's parent company, Megapixel, is well-known in the professional display industry, and their processing system is even used by other microLED brands like LG and Sony.
While the display showcased at CES 2024 has a native resolution of about 6K, it can handle 4K and 8K content through upscaling and downscaling. Ventana aims to make microLED technology more accessible, offering a middle ground between the challenges of achieving excellent black levels and keeping costs reasonable. The company manufactures its products in California and assembles the tiles in Taiwan, utilizing a combination of processors for optimal performance.
Ventana's microLED display is positioned for both residential and industrial applications, catering to luxury retail brands, automotive, factories, concert touring, and movie-making industries. The display's presence at CES 2024 contributes to raising awareness of LED technology and its potential applications, demonstrating the ease with which these displays can be transported and set up. The display is presented as a solution for those who want 8K but also need a large enough display to appreciate the increased resolution.

It won't. We had the tech for this 2 decades ago, just like we had the tech for wide format for 1/2 Century. They don't care because "standards" dictate too much of things like this. So to keep costs low... they will make sure the price is only for the people with money to waste. Projection screens can already do this and have been doing this for decades "as cheaply as possible" for a long while... because theaters do this already. Hope you are right though... because yea... it would love to make a room out of these things... everything except the floor and I can just sit in a chair with a keyboard, mouse, and controllers like a cockpit or something would be the most PIMP thing to do!
@calebmoss802
@calebmoss802 15 дней назад
@@CD-vb9fi Most theaters still use projectors. I have not seen a theater use an LED wall ever. That said the tech has been around for a while but in a lot worse quality. the main thing that remains to be expensive today is the controller/processor that pushes the video feed to all the panels is still expensive.
@CD-vb9fi
@CD-vb9fi 15 дней назад
@@calebmoss802 Expense is not the problem. The projectors they use are expensive. The standards are locked behind DRM. If you open a theater and get a LED wall you are not likely going to be allowed to show any movies unless whoever build that LED wall has signed DRM agreements with the rights holders of whatever you are going to show. That is all baked into the "standards" I mentioned. It's not that we can't change... we just won't until the hurdles for IP Laws are jumped.

Cool tech. I didn't believe the beginning pitch that it was easy to just to tile together when there's mount points you need to install first. Around 15:29, he hints at how challenging it is to install; two days with one whole day to make sure the wall is flat. So that tells me it's not quite ready for most consumers. (Price is probably prohibitive too.) Still really cool stuff. I'll be following this company.

@@Brockthedog315 The frame is going to be a rough start. It's not going to solve the leveling problem, I don't think. Remember, it took them a whole day just to do the leveling. And this is with a (presumably) demo-crew that is well practiced. Also, I'm sure they thought of the frame solution as well. And there likely is a frame behind the 'whiteboard' facade. If the frame was the sole solution, it would need some tight tolerances on the frame (or have every few deployments have creases on the screen), it would have to be immune to the load. All that adds more cost, makes the frame heavier, and that engenders its own issues. That's probably why they use mount points -to compensate for imperceivable bends in the frame/wall. I still want this tech to succeed (b/c I want one when it becomes cheaper!), but I'd like to see a video where they take a pile of tiles and stand them up into an awesome entertainment screen.

"Ray Bradbury’s dystopian novel, Fahrenheit 451, presents a world where books are banned, and technology dominates every aspect of life. One significant technological advancement in this society is the concept of parlor walls. These large screens take center stage in people’s homes, providing continuous entertainment and a means to escape reality. Parlor walls are essentially giant television screens that occupy entire walls in people’s homes. These screens display interactive and immersive programs, allowing individuals to become completely absorbed in the virtual world. They are designed to cater to people’s desires for constant stimulation and instant gratification. With parlor walls, individuals no longer need to face their own thoughts or engage in meaningful conversations. Instead, they can easily immerse themselves in mindless entertainment. In this dystopian world, people are disconnected from one another and have lost touch with reality. They have become passive consumers, always seeking distractions to avoid confronting their own thoughts and feelings. Parlor walls serve as a metaphor for the numbness and isolation that permeate this society."

In fact, I like the idea that you can even remove tiles that may become damaged and replace them rather than having to replace an entire large screen TV. Charbax hit him with ALL the tough questions and dude handled them fairly well. Somebody give this man a raise.

What a great product ! Thanks for all the good questions and also kudos to the company rep ! The control device is just a one size rack unit, neat. Does it also provide the power to the panels ?

I've never seen MICRO LED with a glossy finish before 😯 This looks good but i'm afraid that would make the tile appear more

I think it's hard to know as CES is a very brightly lit convention, huge lights everywhere.. It depends where you put it I guess, if it's going to be around a bright walking street shop front window, or for a brightly lit office showroom entrance, maybe go with matte, but if it's kind of like a more for a darkly lit mansion cinema giant TV room, then go with glossy finish maybe.

This is just amazing. Imagine having your whole wall as a TV. But looking at that Top Gun movie playing in the background, it looks like the framerate is bad. Maybe it is the video camera catching that but it looks choppy.

This is amazing. You can get this upstairs up a tight 2nd floor landing or if you ever move you can pack it in a car. No need for a huge trailer to ship a 200 inch unit.
