Hey scratch, When you cut your soffit out, you just placed the vent on top of your soffit which will allow warm air to get into your soffit area. that is mold heaven. you should finish cutting your hole out and place the vent through the hole. silicone around vent pipe then place the vent cover back on. you should also insulate around any pipes you have in non insulated areas.
You also want to tape the seam on that dryer vent pipe, the escaping condensation can cause mold and mildew inside the wall cavity. My apologies if I'd missed it or if someone else has already said this.
@@FromScratchRanch putting a window, washer and dryer in my closet inspector went nuts on me because I hadn't taped the dryer vent pipe yet. Then he went nuts because I framed the wall with a (nonload bearing) 2x12 wall so I can run dryer vent duct out of the house, had to frame it out down stairs in 2x12 under that scabbed 2x12 wall. So don't take anything I say as negative criticism because I built a 2100 sqfoot 1 bedroom 2 story.
I learned something I want to do with my barndo when I get it, mapping out the penetration points BEFORE doing spray insulation so that I know they're all falling between the ridges on the siding. Good call sir nice build so far!
Thank you. Glad you were able to get a pointer out it. Sometimes it is those little detail tips like that, that can save you from a very frustrating experience.
Really enjoying your channel, thanks for documenting your family effort on your building. Do you have prior building experience on this type of project?
Thanks. I have never taken on a project this big, but I do have some professional experience in some areas from like 20+ years ago, but most of it is personal experience from remodeling/flipping a few homes over the years, volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, and just learning as I go. It has been a little scary at times with such a big project and commitment and a lot of unknowns... but I am living the dream.
