If copd patient who is a co2 retainer only requiring 1 to 2 L O2 via nasal cannula to maintain his saturation, he does not need Venturi right? Venturi only used with facemask when patient require more than 2L O2, is this right?
Not necessarily, if a patient has increased WoB and is air hungry, o2 isn't the issue, its the physical amount of air they need that could be greater than a Flowmeters liter flow
@@jannatjharna3269 if a copd patient comes in using abdominal and accessory muscle usage while breathing even though they are saturating well. You'll see increases HR/RR which indicates patient needs flow more than the oxygen
When you throw a venti mask onto a patient's lap, If something obstructs the venturi port, you lose the entrainment. That surrounding plastic piece would keep the port unobstructed even if the port area is covered by something
should be able to calculate the flow. 100-40=60 40 - 20= 20 A 3 parts air and 1 part O2 mix. 4 parts total. Multiple the 4 x whatever lpm set on the flowmeter to get your total flow. Your are getting a total flow 24 lpm on 40% set on 6lpm. That's adequate if a pts MV is 8 lpm or less. I shoot for at least 30 which would be close to 8 lpm (32 lpm total flow). That green one also uses 6 lpm for higher FiO2s which is even less total flow. Also, if hook to a tank there are further considerations to be aware of vs a compensated flowmeter. These devices need a bit more explaining that "set the flow to what is labeled on the device". Nice presentation but not thorough enough.
