Interesting homage to the Venus de milo statue having the character missing her arms. Definitely makes her stand out and more than just another turtle in the team.
i honestly always liked venus, always thought she was a neat idea, both the lost/adopted sister idea and just in general, and i hope they do her justice and don't just add her to kill her off or make her a villain for no reason
@@GODCONVOYPRIME maybe, honsetly i just hate seeing an interesting idea for a character in media go to waste, since if enough People hate the character nobody Else Will wanna try and do something Else and possibley better with said character, but Hey if you don't like her that's fine i really can't say i blame you the show left a lot to be desired, and if you Are just here to make fun of me, if that is indeed your intention, Hey whatever suit yourself i aint gonna stop you, i just like sharing my opinions with People and seeing their's
@@God-T i certainly diden't intend be making any kind of signaling, heck im not even sure if i fully understand what that means, it isent something i pay much mind or have much if any strong interest in, i just love Tmnt even if some of my opinions might not be the most popular, and i just love shareing my thoughts and hearing those of others
I understand if they hate how Saban made it where the turtles were not brothers but I always felt their hate for Venus was unjustified. It was great having a Shinobi turtle on the team despite other changes and it was great that they teamed up with the In Space Rangers.
Peter Laird is the one who hates her, Kevin Eastman is technically her co creator. Laird has called the idea of her "creatively bankrupt" and Kevin Monroe (director of the TMNT 2007 movie) has said that no one was allowed to even mention doing anything with her when they were planning the movie, or it's potential sequels that never happened
😕 I'm really curious to find out more about this new Venus and her origin. Was she human before she became this frankin-turtle creation or was she mutated first by the mutagen bomb and this was done to her after?
It has been awile since ive been caught up with reading the issues. This explained was wonderful and cool to see what I haven't read yet. would love if you did story arc recaps for the IDW series since has been going for a while. Thanks for always covering all things ninja turtles look forward to the next video!
I haven't been keeping up to date on the entirety of the IDW series but I really love how this series has been hodgebodging everything from every iteration of the turtles into one series. It's really great
I'm really happy they brought her back, but I don't like *how* they brought her back. We already have Jennika as a human turned turtle and Metalhead is already an artificial turtle, so a franken-turtle seems a bit redundant...
Venus herself, in concept and character, has never been a problem. I liked her growing up, but the issue was that the show she was in was the dumbest turtles product ever made. As you put it, this new "edgy" way of re-introducing her to the series is a bit much, and I almost wish that they swapped her and Jennika's roles in this, if they wanted to make a what is essentially a new character.
I have a feeling that they introduced her like this to make her stand out from Jennika, since with the existence of mutant town, it's a same assumption that Jennika isn't the only human turned turtle around. That said, i agree that it is edgy.
"Let's keep the violence, revenge and other mature themes from the old comics, and keep the massive cast and wacky hijinks from the cartoons!" IDW's take on the ninja turtles is wild, and I'm glad for it.
In the next mutation Venus and her master were fighting dragon like creatures from another world. Maybe the dragon scale will give her the ability to shoot fireballs like in the show, minus the extremely long casting time it took her originally.
if they are it would really cement the whole created angle especially if they are each a foil by name and action for our heros like Mikey's nemesis having the name David
Hmm, I have a theory. What if the Punk Frogs were send by the doctor to attack their dojo, and used the fact that a turtle whit a metal shell took in one of them, to get Donnie? Since as Old Turtle Dan mentioned before, Donnie might have a connection w Venus? And the doctor want to get his hands on Donnie to either control Donnie against his brothers, either eliminate him? Since he might be the only one that can make Venus come on their side and make her understand that what the doctor wants is wrong?
Yeah, but then how comes that near the Punk Frogs base was the doctors lab? Or maybe the doctor only took one, and black mailed the rest to bring them Donnie?
It's likely Barlo wants Donnie to use as a comparison for the fake turtles he is making as it looks like he is either working for Hob who wants to expand and needed a solution to the turtles. or likely stockman needs to discredit mutants.
4:04 anyone else think the scale looks like the old Foot Clan logo from TMNT 2003? I wonder if her magical power source will connect her to the Ninja Tribunal in some way? Very interested in the clone turtles too. The only turtle characters from other continuities we haven’t seen in IDW yet are the Dark Turtles from Fast Forward, who also had mad science origins. Overall, really interested in where this story goes.
The red thing in her back and the open shell are reference to a condition where turtles are born with an exposed heart. There was a thing circulating the internet a while back. I think it fits sort of well. I’d be interested if they end up doing something with the fact that she’s named after an artpiece which is famously about the sort of “female passivity” cliche that feminists have been trying to fight for years. (I’d personally like for them to let her name herself or change her name; might make sense to go with Mary Shelley, because of the obvious shel pun, because it sounds cute, because of Frankenstein’s monster, because she’s a female artist rather then just the subject) The exposed heart is obvious but also sort of cool because it’s a genuine mutation irl.
IDW TMNT have manage to do the impossible.....me me intrigued about VENUS, a character not even the creators of the TMNT liked...can't wait to read the next issue.
Actually, it was only Peter Laird who doesn't like Venus. Kevin Eastman liked her so much, and this might be the reason why Sophie Campbell was able to integrate her into the IDW Continuity.
Ironically my first issue of TMNT that I've read in many many years was this issue that debuts Venus on the last page. I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes
I have some ideas for an animated TMNT show starring Venus: First, her personality would be more akin to Starfire from Teen Titans. Second, the show would approach her moving with the turtles in a more realistic way, showing her struggling to adapt to a new lifestyle in a new country with brothers she just met (for example, episode 2 would start with Venus barely being able to sleep due to not being used to sleeping with the sound of the subway, unlike the Turtles). And thurd, the show would be more rooted in prexisting TMNT lore: Shredder would be as dangeroys as always, and there wiuld be appearances from Krang, Karai, April Leatherhead, Baxter Stockman, and even the Stone Generals from the 2007 film.
5:29 The Turtle below Venus might be Kirby. It appears that Sophie Campbell and Tom Waltz are planning to incorporate Kirby into the IDW Continuity in the Future as the 9th Turtle (Next to Slash - 5th, Jennika - 6th, Lita - 7th, and then Venus - 8th).
I’m glad they brought her back in a new origin, my favorite thing about the franchise is how almost every iteration they revamp characters and their origins plus I think just another turtle would be boring considering there are so many turtles/reptile mutants already.
Wow, they made Venus a female Metal-Head & Frankenstein and that's cool they're referencing Mechaturtle from the 1st NES game as well as the SNES & Genesis Tournament Fighters with the clones
As a giant Frankenstein nerd, I have to admit this whole storyline has me super intrigued. I'm a TMNT fan, as well, but don't follow the current comics. This might change that. Venus looks cool as hell.
Nice. The turtle war haha. Crazy what a shift from thr goofy tv series Venus universe compared to the idw tmnt version which is like Frankenstein venus.
Been reading for years. Love this channel. Your video today is good. Just one small thing. The Dojo actually belongs to all of the Turtles. Not just Leo.
I heard of venus before, but I always thought she was just a myth. That people only WANTED a 5th/girl turtle. About a year ago, my brother actually informed me that she was real, but the OG creators never wanted that to happen and that's why she stopped coming back. It shook me that was real. It made it feel like an urban legend was real 😄
I think people give Venus a lot of flack for no real reason. I just dont think people at the time were ready for a female turtle. I also think that if she'd been in a better show, people might have liked her better. I honestly don't think there was anything wrong with her.
Yeah, it's kind of annoying that a particular subset of loud and enthusiastic fans see women as, "political," and automatically get mad at them. Oh well.
The problem is that she was just "the girl" of the group and the group didnt need a girl to work. She was just an attempt at getting girls to watch the show. She wasnt a legit natural character at its core. This one in the comics might be tho.
Turtle boobs is a bridge too far. It just is. She just seemed too shoehorned into the story versus Jennika’s origin. And Venus’ snobbery about insisting to be called Shinobi versus ninja, is as eye rolling as insisting that the water you drink shouldn’t be called water, but H2O and that everyone should refer to what you consume as such🙄 Plus, next mutation was a bad show, it was as poorly written as it was executed. It stretched my limits of turtle love, and I would’ve bought or watched just about anything with the name back then lol.
@Guilherme Almeida “she wasn’t a legit character at her core” spot on 🎯 It’s so condescending and insulting for these people to assume that I can’t possibly like the turtles as they are because they are male. That character and traits mean nothing. That in order for a female like me to like it, it must be vaginal. It’s the same tokenism as supergirl. Supergirl! It’s like Superman, but with a vagina, so that girls will like it! WITAF 🤦🏻♀️
There's also an episode of power rangers in space where they had the five turtles by five turtles I mean Venus and the other four not the yellow one I don't know who the yellow one is
I never hated Venus I just didn’t like the half assed corny cheap was the show was made. The only thing I liked about the show was the addition of her and her backstory
Hmm idw seems to be pulling sources from multiple tmnt sources. The doppelganger remind me of tournament fighters. Hmm maybe we will finally see Musashi lol
I'm very interested in where they going with the dragon scales looks like Dragon Lord is going to be appearing soon and I cannot wait to see how they do him. Likely he's going to get a new body constructed and will be the next big threat.
A sign of jumping the shark is having dozens of doppelgangers. 10 Bat themed heroes in the "Bat Family" 9 spider themed heroes in the "Spider-Verse" Its all so unoriginal and boring. Venus and Jennika are the same. They aren't needed or really wanted additions to TMNT. It waters the property down.
Clyde Frog.....I remember another character by that name from Mississippi public television. He kept getting into trouble. He even got kidnapped in one episode.
Jezuz fucking Christ... I had no idea this comic existed, it's fucking brutal and disgusting. At first, I liked the whole "realistic violence" in these new comics, like The Boys and Invincible, but now... I'm kinda thinking it's all gone a bit too far.
Accursed creator! Why did you form a monster so hideous that even YOU turned from me in disgust? God, in pity, made man beautiful and alluring, after his own image; but my form is a filthy type of yours, more horrid even from the very resemblance. - The Creature. Frankenstein.
I don't mind Venus being somekind of Frankenstein Mutate Ninja Turtle. I'm just happy she's canon in the comics. Before this, she had no other appearances(not in any of the Nick shows, not the 2003 one, etc.) & apparently the creators of these comics or the TMNT creators hated her. I didnt mind og Venus, she was the first female Ninja Turtle before that Yellow one & others. I get it if the complaint was that Next Mutation show trying to make the Turtles not related. But thats just it, that was the show's mistake.
If I wanted to start reading this series online, where would I go about purchasing all the volumes to read digitally? Or is there some comic subscription service where I could read it for cheaper?
Comixology is the easiest place currently for both collected volumes and individual issues. The older stuff is on sale pretty frequently so you’re likely find even the larger collections pretty cheap (which is how I recommend reading the series, as the larger collections include even the spin-off books in order of publication). Just remember to either use Comixology on a smart phone or a tablet of some sort. Comixology recently had a major update that made reading on a computer EXTREMELY difficult with panels and pages not expanding to the correct size. There will eventually be an update that will fix said issue but as of now, PC Comixology is virtually unreadable.
@@warioskapelli3100 Thanks for the suggestion. I might wait until I hear that I can properly view it on pc. I don't know that it would be an overly nice experience to try to read comic books on my phone. Especially since I heard somewhere that in that recent update you mentioned, they got rid of the guided view that would allow you to easily read comics on a small screen.
