My grandmother always told us the story about how she married in Mexico, my home country. And that she was called Mexico's Bride because all people loved her.
@@thesovgc My Mexican grandmother told us the story about Caslavska. My grandmother watched the wedding on tv, Caslavska married at the Cathedral in Mexico City in 1968 and she used to say that it was a beautiful ceremony and people went to the streets to give the bride and groom wedding gifts when they left the cathedral.
@@jaggercardenas2533 oh wow! Did she get married before or after the Olympics, do you know? After, I'm assuming but idk. From everything I've read, Caslavska was an amazing person and I was so devastated to read that apparently her life was negatively impacted by defying the Soviet occupation during the medal ceremony. She was only doing what was right and should have been her choice. 😔
@@thesovgc I believe she was married after the Olympics, these were very strange times in Mexico also because there had been students protesting against the goverment and many of them died just before the Olympic games started. I did read somewhere that she had a difficult personal life. My grandmother was single and around 19 years old in 1968 and she watched the games on tv with her family but remembers the ambient in the streets and that the Olympic games were such an amazing experience, she says that when the Czesk Republic entered the stadium (you know like when all the athletes enter in groups with their flags of their countries for the innauguration ceremony) there was a huge applause and very warm reception and bravo's!! for this Country , I think it was then Czechoslovakia and not Czesk Republic, because of what you say, the Soviet occupation had happened very recently and the Mexican people wanted to show their support for the Czesk athletes, I do not know if there is any of this on you tube, but these were the stories my grandma told to me :) So I grew up listening to the stories of Vera Caslavska :) and everybody in Mexico adored her because she danced gimnastics with a pianist playing live and to traditional Mexican music.
I do remembet watching Vera in tv, and we all Mexico watched her getting married in the Mexico's Cathedral! With this performance (Mexican music) she won all the ❤ s of the Mexican People! 😊
The soviets had invaded and taken over Czechoslovakia, and like many in her country, she protested against communism. They cut short her career and only many years later, with intervention of the international Olympic committee, she was allowed to coach in her country. RIP this brave and talented woman.
Is so frustrating to go back in time to watch classic gymnastics, just to find a bunch of people shitting over current gymnastics, Vera wouldn't be able to do this kind of complex choreo if she would have to do nowadays complex tumbling. You don't have to put other gymnasts' hard work down to lift others.
please consider that this was a time before Olga Korbut waltzed in and introduced the gutsy moves to everyone. it may look easy to you (but trust me it’s not. try it yourself, you won’t be saying that then) but don’t deny that it’s a work of art
