Hi! Welcome back to RBT Exam Review. Today we are reviewing verbal behavior and verbal operants in applied behavior analysis. Verbal operants include: mands, tacts, echoics, intraverbals, textuals, and transcriptions. You must know verbal operants for the BCBA exam. RBTs should be familiar with verbal operants.

How do you teach client how to tact if you don’t asks “What is this?” If when using “what is this?” it’s considered an intraverbal?

Yes, same question

Hey Adrienne, great question. What you are describing can be used as "tact training." The "What is this" would function as the prompt after presenting the non-verbal stimulus. Slowly, you would fade the prompt (what is this) so that only the non-verbal stimulus evoked the verbal behavior. When this occurs, you have a pure tact.

If Jess says ham and cris say tavern would this be a mand or intraverbal ?
@ABAExamReview
@ABAExamReview 7 месяцев назад
If Jess is requesting ham, that would be a mand. If Jess is labeling the ham, that would be a tact. If Cris is replying to Jess, that would be an intraverbal. If Cris is not replaying to Jess, but labeling a tavern, that would be a tact. If Cris is requesting a tavern, that would be a mand. Always look at who the speaker and listener is when identifying verbal operants.

Shouldn't we also know types of mands: Regular, extended, superstitious and magical?

If you get to the point where you are fluid in everything else, certainly!
