Simon. Your painstaking work is much appreciated. I am an Italian speaker and many translations (of others) are outdated. Some verbage used such as to taste: “libare,” are now seldom used, having been replaced by “assaggiare” or “gustare.” Thanks again for your perfectly timed scores. Your synchronized the score sheet transitions superbly!
I never noticed the modulations near the end of Act 1 before I saw your commentary! Wow! They remind me of the jarring, flashing, bright modulations in the opening chorus of Pagliacci, except Verdi's case is not as much in-your-face.
And most definately the first one that was perfect in every way. All that came before suffered from either weak libretti, lacking musical inspiration or the corset of operatic tradition that Verdi had to operate under. Rigoletto is the first opera in which he said: "To hell with traditions, I want to tell a story first! And so I can't have the tradition of having the soprano sing an aria with female choir as No.2 interfere with how the story goes." So there is no Soprano Aria in 2nd place, there are not even women in the choir. And that is just one of many examples where Verdi finally took total creative control and got rid of limiting prerequistes of how an italian opera should be structured. Took him just 15 attempts to get there...
@@Quotenwagnerianer I agree with you and that’s why I think Verdi is beyond other Italian composers (except Puccini). His operas are in my opinion way more interesting and captivating than Rossini, Bellini and Donizetti’s ones and we are very luck he lived so long.

@@thechosenone3197 It sure is, especially since I have college to balance along with these passion projects of mine. However, I am appalled that more opera scores aren’t uploaded on other channels, so I think I have my love of opera to count on in order to help me work rather quickly!
