One of the worst stoppages in boxing history - not as bad as the Rolly stoppage cause Rolly was actually losing but this was completely ridiculous. He didn’t even land 2 clean punches against the ropes. It actually was unfair to Virgil too. He should have been allowed to win fair and square and have his moment to prove to himself that he is back.
Early ass terrible stoppage and I'm a big Vergil fan. Not only does that rob Vergil of a solid, legitimate win, but it also robs the fans of a good fight.

Vergil Ortiz is definately not going to be ready for really good boxers with these kind of decisions, like Crawford. Could have got some more practice on hiding his chin, while punching that hard...definately will catch an uppercut, even from Danny Garcia. Way to return!
Definitely stopped it early, but the outcome was the same and the fighter didn't take unnecessary punishment finding out he didn't belong in the ring with Ortiz

"I don't know why people are mad." ??? Robert is not looking for someone to hug, so stop it. People in that arena paid money to see a fight , even if it was a mismatch. Weeks took that away. Let that sink in. Boxing should not be "He was gonna get knocked out anyway." Whew!!! Robert knows that. Robert doesn't want to bad mouth a ref that just gave his fighter a win. A bad ref is not good for the sport. Tony Weeks should not be allowed to ref a big fight.
Wasn’t a KO win the fight was stopped for no reason specially at the end of the round , total waste of money , 154 division not 156 , Virgil miss weight , ban Tony Winks from a boxing referee he needs to be investigated by boxing commission
The bad thing about the stoppage is that Vergil was just getting started, and when Tony Weeks stopped it, it made Vergil look bad, like the guy took a dive, a fixed fight by the promoters, with dollar signs in the future. "I myself" know it was not fixed, Vergil had the guy subdued, but when you make it look like somebody got cheated, that is not good for boxing. I seen the guy was finished, If the fight was allowed to continue, I saw Tony Weeks breaking them apart, and then Vergil resuming the ass whipping, and hurting him, but it would have substantiated a stoppage, and it wouldn't have appeared a cheat. So I feel bad that Vergil will be remembered in the future as being involved in some scandalous press over this fight. Maybe not, but if there ever is an issue in the future, this one will be used as a negative record on his resume. Not Vergil's fault, he had nothing to do with it, but nevertheless, he will get some blame for being involved with scandalous officials. Thumbs down for Tony Weeks, in this fight.
Ortiz looked Sharp! No doubt a Big Knock Out was coming if it wasn't for the ref protecting his people and robbing the Mexican from a devastating finish but there was no doubt that this fight wasn't going the distance. Hope to see more soon 🥊🇲🇽🇺🇲
“Protecting his people???” If his oriole are boxers, sure, he was protecting. Lawson had no offense and no defense; he had nothing! The fight was about as lop sided as it could be. The ref prevented brain damage, regardless of how the crowd felt.
“Protecting his people?” Da Fuq?? The ref (Weeks) is not African, he’s American. The boxer (Lawson) is African, from Ghana. And the ref didn’t “protect” the Ghanian guy he cheated him from having an opportunity to win the fight - which we all know was unlikely but he still had a chance.
I like Vergil but I think the conspiracy of him moving up weight classes is because he don’t want the big fish like boots or Crawford etc, too risky, nobody even knows who that kid was and it was a early stoppage which sucks. The co main event was better
