Thanks for a great video. I now use this feature on my Vermona Perfourmer synth which has similar OUT/INSERT sockets. Worth noting. I use a Zoom MS-70CDR effects unit. This has stereo inputs and outputs, so I can patch 2 outputs from the Vermona into the Zoom. One into each channel. Although it means you have to use the same effect on both it's nice to have the option to do it.

Ok, I'm not much of a manual reader but this really seems like a HIDDEN feature :O As others have posted, I've owned my DRM for years and didn't know this either. VERY COOL - thanks.

i was thinking of getting the RNLA compressor from FMR Audio. I dont suppose you have any experience of using these??

You know, that one and the RNC have been on my wish list ... but I never got them, as I didn’t feel the need for a hardware compressor in my setups so far. I usually add compression in post on the computer or iPad and it worked alright so far, without any fancy plugins too.

Maybe its a stupid question but when I sequence the sounds of the vermona and use effects with these outputs will it also play the sound with the effect? I'm new to these drum synths so I don't really know how this works.

It depends on the effect, but generally effect pedals (for example) offer a wet/dry mix which you use to dial in the effect amount.

Can you actually mix the how much of the effect is being sent? Like a wet/dry control? Or is it 100% wet?

It's the output of the effect, so you have to do the mixing there.

Thanks for the reply. I had one on loan from a friend for a week and absolutely fell in love with it. I didnt have any external pedals at the time to check this tho. Super cool drum machine/synth. Thanks for posting the video too. Surprised how many ppl don't realize this feature.

Yeah, it's documented in the manual, but I think only somewhere at the end and it might not be an obvious chapter to look for :D

Does this mean you can use the drm als a 8 track mixer? Sounds like it...

Never thought of it that way, but yes, I guess you could use it as a mixer too :)

I don't think so. Plugging a plug into a drum output removes that sound from the main OUT and listens for the RETURN on that drum's channel... So, OK... I just got it - yes it could be a mixer but you'd lose the drum sounds.

***** hey, can you use this as the drums in a song your making? Or is it better to use a drum plugin/sample? I feel analog would be better than crappy full digital sampled drums. Whats your opinion?

It's a drum machine so it's meant to be used in songs ;-) There are good hardware drums and good software/VST/sampled drums, so you can't say that one or the other is better. It depends on the sound (and workflow) you want.

Congratulations, your videos are well informed and useful, and how much help you will be able to clarify me. My Friend I am Sidinaldo aka Symon, I have an immense difficulty that is next. I use Reason 5 and I have an Akai MPC 500 the same a Wed vido you present in some classes. The question is could u help me add MPC to Reason 5 500? As of now I am very grateful for his help with their video lessons to the world of music.

I have a silver-faced DRM 1 mkII, does it have this same feature, or is it only on the mkIII?

Yes, the mkII also has this feature :) See p.10 in the manual for more details.

Hmmm.. Such a great machine, but it needs a MKIV with kit saving functionality, and one button solo or muting of sounds.

Well, it doesn't have a sequencer built-in, so the solo/mute would normally be handled by that externally, as pretty much all sequencers have mute/solo functionality. Kit saving would require a major overhaul and then, without very fancy and expensive encoders like on the Nord Lead, the knobs wouldn't always show their actual values on first sight.

It really depends on your setup and music workflow. The DRM-1 has MIDI and optional Trigger inputs too, so you can use pretty much any sequencer out there. I've used Ableton Live, my MPC, my iPad and various Eurorack Modules to sequence it.
