The third video in the series taking an in-depth look at the wonderful Vermona DRM-1 Mk.iii drum synthesiser. This time we'll explore the Drum 1 and Drum 2 engines.
Nicely detailed exploration, well-paced and nice delivery, as usual. And you made some excellent sounds too! I have a DRM1 and this has stimulated ideas, inspiring me to get back on it. Thank you.
+revoguy1 great to hear you're enjoying it! Keep an eye on the channel for the next few days - the rest of the series should be coming out over the coming week. If you have anything you want to see in particular, let me know in the comments. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!
Oscillator Sink wow that's downside. Very nice sounding and versatile though. I am not tempted by it since I'm really happy with my tanzbär+the vermona retroverb. But paired with Bsp seems like killer drummachine
+Strages thank you. I'm using an Arturia BeatStep Pro (over midi) which seems to be a pretty perfect match! If you take a look at any of the recent videos on the channel you can see this duo working together!
besides the tactile quality of hands on...is there anything else about this outboard gear that is missing from some Native Instruments drum kit plugin? I love the hands on but wondering if the analog oscillators - manipulation engine is far superior or something like that..
I guess, if we're talking specifically about the DRM-1, a big part of it is the tactile, hands on experience. It's a pleasure to use, but it's a luxury item in many ways for sure. In terms of the sound - analog isn't better, it's different, but it might be the right kind of different? The DRM-1 sounds very "alive", which is a nice way of saying "imperfect". Every hit is a little different especially when you start pushing the filters or introducing FM, and the sounds also interact with each other as they play. You don't get that happening with samples BUT you also might not WANT that. Like I say: it's not better, it's just different. If you want to try some of the sounds out incidentally, I actually released a free sample pack with lots of DRM-1 sounds, both raw and unprocessed, so you can get some of these sounds now if you want to experiment with them.
