@@AndromedaMessier101 yes. It has something to do with religion too. The far south in mindanao are Muslims. And infested with ISIS before their defeat in marawi. So much for the so called Religion of peace
@@AndromedaMessier101 A local teacher of someone I know was brutally killed in a very gruesome manner because the said teacher had a relationship with a muslim woman when he isn't a muslim himself. The guy is probably dead by now. His "fault" is having a relationship with a muslim woman since muslims are very territorial(I mean, look at the worldwide support for palestine). Most of the Philippine islands are usually safe for tourists but always be cautious when in places where the muslims are majority and don't have a relationship with their women because this is usually the end result of that choice.
The Muslim areas of the Philippines in southwestern Mindanao are red zones for a reason. Even OTHER FILIPINOS (who are majority Christian) rarely enter these areas.
I’m a Filipino, I’ve been to many countries all over the world but I’ve never been to these areas of my country due to the same reasons mentioned by the newscaster.
I am a Filipino. Born and bred in Dipolog City, which is a Christian city in the region of Zamboanga del Norte. I would NEVER EVER set foot on muslim municipalities around the region at all. I am married to a Dane and I have never taken him to my hometown. It's just an extra mile of precaution I take.
@@DanielJennessIIyour logic man. Manila doesnt have Muslim terrorists who target to kidnap foreigners. There's a reason why that area is a red zone for foreigners.

North and South East Mindanao are generally safe. Unfortunately this gentleman was residing in a known high risk region in the South West, an area my Filipina partner and I would never dare travel, let alone live. I pray for his safe return.
If you are a foreigner or a local and if you are a Christian you don't have a reason to go there because this people hate you because of your not belong to them.
i think it’s important to report that this part of the philippines (mindanao) and especially near where he was living is advised against all travel to, bc of the t*rrorist activity. the rest of the philippines is not like that and generally safe
I’m a Filipino, I’ve been to many countries all over the world but I’ve never been to these areas of my country due to the same reasons mentioned by the newscaster.
That area has been a "Do Not Travel To" area for years. Why any foreigner would travel there is unexplainable. Many Filipinos won't even go to that area.
First mistake was ever deciding to live in the south western part of Mindanao… Honestly I travel there 3-4 times a year… The area that is the most hostile is the area he decided to live… Most of that island is rather peaceful, though I still would not live anywhere in Mindanao as an American.
Southwest* Heh. Southeastern Mindanao is Davao de Oro and Davao Oriental, which is quite safe. The vast majority of Mindanao is traditional territory of Christians and safe. It's only in the southwestern and westernmost parts (including islands near Malaysia), where things become sketchy. Not only for foreigners, but also local Christian Filipinos. But yes. I really don't understand why he decided to settle there. Even fellow Filipinos will warn tourists to avoid those areas. It's okay nowadays to visit some areas in the Muslim regions, but most others require a military escort, others are best avoided altogether. But living there, much less marrying, in a RED ZONE, is insane.
i have been in and around the philippines, including mindanao, and indonesia for decades, now 2-3 times for 4-5 months total each year. the kidnapped american was making videos about his “good” life, financed by profiting from short term loans that he made to muslims there. flashing money in a very poor, lawless place, and practicing usury with muslims, are two very bad choices. the kidnappers there are more brigands than terrorists. short of his family paying a hefty ransom he is up the creek without a paddle. morale of the story, don’t forget to bring common sense when you travel.
Eastman, a resident of Vermont, had moved to the Philippines several months ago to marry a local woman and *** had been documenting his life on social media *** (low profile? use false location? nope, here's where you can find him)
@@brucef310 its very rare for them to kidnap a filipino muslim but long ago they accidentally kidnap indonesians and malaysians muslims and they get paid a huge ransom for it
A.m from Mindanao. We never Go there There are remote areas in Mindanao that we are not allowed to Go specially in Muslim areas. Why his wife allowed him to stay there. I pray he be ok.
you really have to inject US politics? Fyi, Biden have secured the release of 70 American prisoners from abroad while Trump have only secured the release of 58 hostages.
Debt interest is also haram. Forbidden in Islam. He does this while living in a Muslim village and marrying a Muslim woman. Routinely taking off his shirt. I mean jeez. Does he even really know where he is? 🤦♂
@@vgwalldecals For CHRISTIAN Filipinos. It's haram in the village he lived in. ALL interest on loans is haram. That's why they have their own special banks, unlike everyone else.
@@t-rexs232 I know. But it's the fact that he's not even making the effort to fit in or minimize his profile. He just naively assumes they're just as friendly as other Filipinos despite the region he is in being part of a decades-old red list for foreign travelers. I have no idea why his wife didn't tell him these things as well. It might have saved him.
I remember when I was in the Philippines and two Canadian men and one of their Philippines girlfriends were all kidnapped and they were beheaded. We were always told that the Mindanao region is a no go zone.
You can even see that the policemen in there wear lvl 4 plates because this area is red zone in Philippines... he's naive borderline stupid I'm sorry to say
Declaring that the whole of Mindanao is unsafe is unfair on the Philippines, there are many very safe areas in Mindanao. This idiot RU-vidr chose to live in the worst part and broadcast his life online.
@@Iaszund LOL. Try the Golden Triangle. There won't even be a ransom. Most countries in southeast Asia are in a similar situation to the Philippines. You just don't read about it on the news. Southern Thailand is a similar red zone that just doesn't get talked about. Aceh in Indonesia (as well as parts of Sulawesi and West Papua) are similar. All of them (except Papua) have the same reason.
It is one of the most dangerous places in SEA. I'm in south Thailand and I can sense some danger there that's why I had to move back to Bangkok too. Muslim populated areas are a no go zone for me.
@@IaszundSome parts of Mindanao are dangerous not the whole Mindanao, can't you understand that part where his been kidnapped is way more far from where i lived now,in Mindanao too..
1:50 see that ? the entire Mindanao AGAIN is crucified for this. this only happened in a small part of Mindanao in the NORTH-WESTERN part where its dangerous to be even for Filipinos. which is why i hate some of these hard headed, "I CAN CHALLENGE THE THREATS HERE" type of tourists. GENSAN, DAVAO, TAGUM , KIDAPAWAN, and may more are great places. there are a lot of places in the USA MORE LIFE THREATENING than Mindanao yet we don't warn our public to stay off USA.
That's my biggest. This doesn't sound like $ ransom. May be had something to do with marrying a Muslim woman and cousin not approving or may be they found out his conversion to Islam was fake.
@@Ego-Kills: also, you know that language barrier. I've got family in the philippines & i travel back & forth, I don't ever go to the areas where I know it's bad so does my family who are all from the philippines. Idk why foreigners keep thinking they can just go to any dangerous areas & think they'll be fine when the locals themselves don't even go to the bad areas.
This was honestly the MAIN issue of the matter, in addition to specifically WHERE in Mindanao that it was (everyone who does not know, not all of Mindanao is bat shit crazy all of the time like Zamboanga - this has been a red alert area for a very long time)
His wife is poor woman she looks like a good woman but unfortunately she is a Muslim living in that area, the police monitor her condition because she affected mentally to what happened to her husband.
For the Record not the whole Mindanao is a red zone for travel in the Philippines,Jolo,Sulu,Marawi,Zamboanga were those place off limits for foreigners

He operates a loanshark or 5-6 as we call them here in the Philippines. He brags and flaunt how much money he makes on interest in his vlog. mind you this is located in a very remote and poorest area of the Philippines. So stupid.
nonsense. depending on a jurisdiction’s law and culture one can marry across religious lines. there is nothing in philippine law addressing marriage between muslims and non muslims. tradition in conservative islamic areas of mindanao, if the wedding actually occurs there, may require the non muslim party to nominally convert at least for her family’s and appearance’s sake. and these kidnappers are largely apolitical brigands, not terrorists, for sure, as folks with experience there know well.
Muslim men can marry people of the book(Muslims, Christians and Jews) but Muslim women can only marry Muslim men. A non-muslim man must convert before he marries a Muslim woman. That's their belief and we must respect them.
maybe his wife is scheduled to marry a fellow Muslim but she refuses and marries a foreigner.. based on his live he says " he feels that the locals there don't like him " for sure because the majority of the locals there are related to each other.
It seems unlikely because first of all they have not claimed responsibility for it and also they know that embassies no longer pay ransom to kidnappers.. Once that the bullet in his leg goes sepsis, all they are going to have is 140 pounds of fish food
Zamboanga sebuco have a lot of muslims extremist and NPA arm groups no filipino citizen usually go there especially for tourists because it’s really dangerous and restricted area. Hopefully the local and national government will do the deep rescue mission

Americans If you are visiting the Philippines, please do your research and avoid high risk areas as much as possible. There thousands of beautiful white sand beaches, attractions and peaceful community in the Philippines. We filipinos want every tourist to be safe while staying in our country.
Americans have this thing called "NO RACISTS AND BIGOTRY RULES" it's kinda dumb because even the dangers of a group of people are already manifesting, they will just throw it out lest they will be called bigots.
The foreigners are getting younger and younger to hook up with Filipina women. You'd think he would have a career and life back in the States at only 26.
Just reminder to all foreign tourist don't Ignore the Government advisory especially Don't go zone in Philippines because so many Extremist group left in Mindanao like Abbusayaf and Isis.
They are thinking his Muslim wife's family might be behind it. I believe he was targeted due to him being married. I have friends all over the Philippines, and it's one area all foreigners avoid. I don't think he is alive.
My advice to all tourist and foreigner do your research before going to other places because there are some areas that is dangerous as concerned citizens of Luzon please do your research before making hard decisions because you will not know what is the next consequences of your action. Zamboanga sebuco have a lot of extremist groups don’t set your foot there it’s not safe!!!
The question is are they really Filipinos because that place all muslim either local or from other place esp. Nearby country...its been a while that there are no kidnapping from that area.
South west of Mindanao is a no go zone even for filipino christian, even us christian filipino need to coordinate with the tourism office if we tour there. Its a muslim area
