you can see where Elvis learned to sing, its the down home roots that always mean so much more than voice lessons ever will.....Lord bless them both. I pray there both singing in your choir n heaven.
I never heard Vernon Presley sing. This brought tears to my eyes. You can surely tell that the singing gene was passed from father to son. Thank you so much for posting this video, it's an absolute treasure! God bless.
In 1972 at 13 years old was in Vegas with my family and playing in the arcade at Circus Circus while my parents and siblings were gambling and elsewhere. I started talking to another boy I met and persuaded him to walk with me to the Hilton where Elvis was performing, thinking we could meet him. Someone told me he stayed in a suite on the top floor so we got into the elevator . Just then in walked Vernon, Jerry Shilling and a lady. I still remember thinking Vernon was really tall and Jerry had big muscular arms( was wearing a tight short sleeve shirt) I was to shy to say anything. When the door opened on the 34? floor there was a guard seated with a gun. As the door closed I thought about how close I came to meeting my idle, the boy and I argued all the way back about why we didn't say anything to Vernon!
I bet if you boys had said something to him about being big fans, he would have introduced you. Thirteen is an awkward age and kids were a little more polite back then too.
Elvis was definitely a good mixture of both his parents in looks. People talk about him having his mother’s eyes, but Gladys had large brown eyes, while Vernon had smaller blue ones. I honestly think Elvis had his dad’s eye shape, color, deep setting, and eyebrows, but Gladys’s epicanthic fold. The forehead and ears are all Gladys. The overall face shape, hands, and nose are Vernon. Elvis’s jawline, cheekbones, lips, and smile are a combination of both of his parents.
When I visited Graceland in 2006, the PA system at the beginning of the tour played an old home recording of Vernon, Gladys And Elvis singing together; Vernon sounded even more like Elvis than he does here, and Gladys had a sweet voice too. Wish the estate would release it!
Some people have huge irrelevant issues with people they don't know. I love this video. For some reason I never even thought what Vernon might have sung like. TY for posting. I've read Rick Stanley's book twice and heard him speak, and I sure don't think he's evil. He loved Elvis and Elvis was good to him. But none of us were there, so I sure wouldn't cast ANY stones; let alone the first one. Lovely clip!
I never understood why so many hate on Vernon Elvis Presley. Elvis loved his dad very much ! I have had a fascination with Elvis since age 7. I've read all the books, I know all the bullshit and the truth. People say some ridiculous things about this man. I have studied Elvis' family like they were my own... Have some respect people. Vernon loved his son Elvis. You all need someone to blame isn't it... Yes indeed, ding dong the witch is dead. Forever you our beautiful boy. God Bless your Soul.
***** I think Vernon was afraid to push Elvis to far with various things like drugs, money etc. for fear that Elvis would simply tell Vernon to leave. I don't think Vernon was a bad guy but he could have done better by his son. He was one of the people who urged EP to do several things that didn't serve him well: 1) He wanted him to marry Priscilla 2) He seemed to think staying with Col Parker was a good thing. 3) He invested some of EP's money very poorly & lost it. The check he went to jail for when Elvis was a child wasn't for food ...it was spent on clothes & liquor.
I Discovered Elvis aksi at the young age of 5 I'd listen to him for hours at that young age and when I was 6yo he died and it actually upset me even though I didn't understand it.... But like u I have read and watched everything I could get my hands on and while they all refer to Elvis's relationship with his mother if you read enough you discover a very close and deep love between Elvis and Vernon, he loved and trusted Vernon so much he entrusted him with the day to day finances and managing his business. We can thank Vernon for the huge archive that exists at Graceland today he kept everything, every cheque every piece of paper. Its without doubt they were close.
Elvis has his fathers nose and forehead. I can see a glimmer of Vernon in his eyes. But Elvis was his mother. The chin, the smile and those sultry sexy eyes, all Gladys. Yeah, he was his fathers son. But he was his mother’s heart.
@@goldTopDeluxe the shape of Elvis' face is also like his dad and the blond hair comes from Vernon... Elvis dye his hair black...Elvis was a blond like his dad...explains Lisa s blond hair.
He had his nose fixed. He doesn't have either of their noses. I often wonder if it wasn't another relative's nose. Gladys was so sad and the whole family was effected. Once Elvis's twin died everything changed they report.
@@candacekesting1786 if you look at Dodger’s nose then you can see where Elvis got his Greek nose shape from. Vernon had it too; the nostrils and tip of Elvis’s were just sharper.
I wasn't quite expecting this. But it's a nice surprise. A pleasant singing voice with emotion. Perhaps there was a Presley singing gene/talent before Elvis. And that's awesome.
You are right Gail, Vernon did have a good voice, but Gladys had a lovely voice also, in fact they all sang together around the piano or at church quite often. So the gift of his beautiful voice was passed along and in his genes. And we are Blessed to have lived in his time on earth. The whole world has been Blessed by the tremendous gift that God gave us in a man called Elvis Presley.
Can't believe this actually exists! Mr. Presley had a very good voice, better than I expected. A hidden talent that ended up being passed down to his famous son, no doubt.
Alexander Perez there is a video on RU-vid of Elvis Presley's granddaddy singing look it up it was just on a couple of days ago he had a nice voice too from a different air but I believe it came from the Presley side
Wow he sounds alot like his son... he should have done something with his voice as well. Alot of their troubles may have been solved... Elvis was a beautiful man... I wasnt born until 12 years about after he died but still lol... we need some men like him in today's day and age. The time has definitely changed
Interesting...I can actually hear a bit of Elvis in his voice - the inflection he uses in some of the words. Elvis definitely didn't get his talent from Vernon but I can hear Elvis in there...just a bit!
You hear elvis In his voice alot. Sorry not to sound rude. This is the only thing that I think he has recorded but from the first time the first word came out I heard his son. Not fully but alot.

@photoclick1 I know it is a shame. What a beautiful song! I can see where Elvis got his talent. He was so good to his parents and his family! He was selfless with people! It is sad that he and his father are no longer with us and I hope they are with Jesus!
I feel bad for Vernon. I'm not sure but I think he suffered a lot in his life despite of having money; houses; cars and so on. Imagine losing your wife and later your only son. He had a sweet and good voice. You can tell he felt in his heart what he was singing.
Jenny:: So true, David Stanley alone has written 6.How many more?? In his latest book he states Elvis committed suicide. I will never believe it. Too many Stanley's here for comfort.
There's no question that Elvis loved his father a great deal, but it is also true that he would often times get angry with him as Mr. Presley was quite tight with money (though who could blame him) and he could also have a nasty, blunt attitude, especially with women, at times. However, we all have our faults, so let he without sin cast the first stone.
actually... ELVIS looks so much like his grandad..Robert "Bob" Smith...Gladys father, he was a very handsome man. ELVIS never knew his grandparents.. Robert and Doll Smith, they passed before ELVIS was born.
Oh my an unmined talent very smooth easy on the hearing style of what was hank snow hank Williams only prettier will listen again maybe Graceland will find more by daddy Vernon
Vernon only became "fatherly" when Elvis started making the bucks. His 2nd wife was outside and inside. She was pissed because Vernon divorced her.and she got nothing. Her sons were just as evil....moochers. They preyed on Presley's generosity. So sad.
Rowwdy Colt I think Vernon knew he was ill and he was a very smart man he wasn't leaving any of the Presley estate to her I think he died a short while after his divorce
Indeed Vernon presley was not a nice person at all, he would knock gladys about and then him and Elvis would get into it, apparently vernon getting the thick end of it.
Elvis was not at all happy about his Daddy marraring her less than 2 years after his beloved Momma passed; in fact he made him and her live off Graceland property. Also sje (Dee) never loved Vernon, she was after Elvis, but Elvis couldn't stand her
