Is it just me or did anyone think the little brother with the Harry potter looking glasses was super adorable

I didn't feel like the movie was scary, I thought it was sad Veronica had to sacrifice her life to try to protect her brothers and never really had an opportunity to live like a 15-year-old. Also, she died the day before she was going to go out with her mother in a long time. Now her mother is going to have to cope with the death of her husband and daughter and I know for sure she'll feel guilty for not believing Veronica In the end of the movie I started crying because of how tragic I thought Veronica's situation was idk

I have never and will never play with a ouija board. I'm not even saying there's anything supernatural about them, I'm just saying that by using it, you're potentially opening a door that you don't know how to close.

Loved this movie. Nothing really original in terms of monsters and basic plot points, but it was well shot, well paced, had decent scares, and the young cast really carried it. Also, maybe it's just me, but having the movie set in Spain adds so much charm, as it allows it to bypass the preconceptions we all develop when we're given the same American high school setting we've all grown very tired of.

I'll add this one to my list to watch!

You definitely skipped over the scene when she was walking home and crossed paths with the demon dressed identically like her but when she turned around something prevented her from seeing the persons face but when she faced forward the demon looked back. It was like a force kept them from looking at each other. I wanna know why that scene was so significant that the director placed it in.

Usually, in movies about demonic possession we see the point of view of people witnessing the possessed person, but in Veronica we saw the point of view of someone who is possessed that's why i find this movie so great and original

I thought I recognised the invocation symbol that is accidentally used, and I did! So, in the Lesser Key of Solomon the sigil of Asmodeus is eerily similar. Now what also intrigued me about this is that Asmodeus is the demon of lust, which might explain why Veronica got her first period, as a way for this demon to force her into maturity and into the world of lust. Just a theory.

Kinda where she fucked up was with the Viking "Protection symbol" Its the Runic compass a symbol more about not getting lost in travel than not been killed by demons.

I'm surprised there's not more discussion about the symbolism linking the story of Veronica and sexual abuse and intergenerational trauma. Yes you could view it as the demon possessed them and watch the movie through that scope. In parallel theres a lot of things are a hinting Veronica was sexually abused by her dad. Spoilers - Him appearing to her naked and forcing himself upon her. - It could be interpreted that the kids were sexually molested as well in the bed frames and how the stains were of an adult humanoid figure spooning, sleeping with all of the children. - The meatball scene. Her body becoming physically frozen/paralyzed and rejecting the "meatball" going into their body. - Mom hesitant to talk about dad You could view it as when she "realized she became a demon" herself as it could be interpreted as Veronica may have molested the siblings as what was done to her. Very unfortunate but all to common where the abused can abuse others. The kids were always talking about how "there was no else there, and it was always her that was choking them etc." - Bed wetting is commonly seen with children that experienced some form of sexual abuse. - When she begs her mom to stay with the family. "Hes not here when you are around" alluding to how when her mother works all day and night, they are left home with dad and the siblings and thats when the "terrorizing" takes place. - The wolf and deer painting can be interpreted as they were deer escaping from the "wolf/dad/abuse" which Veronica in seen to have become the wolf herself, (on her shirt) symbolizing that the sexual abuse cycle may have continued. - Veronica looking into the mirror and see what she's become and is overwhelmed with guilt and shame, taking her own life. Again, you would have to view the story separately, and not cling so close to the paranormal aspect. But one could view it as a demon possession or a psychological thriller. This is only to be interpreted through the lens that although the story is about possession, it could also have an underlying narrative of sexual trauma experienced and passed on through generations.

This story was very famous in Madrid when I was little, usually we did something similar like bloody mary and such to try and talk to veronica, or to ask her things, or do bad things to people we didn't like. My grandmother was the one who told me about the real story, and when the movie came out a lot of people where a little scared because of the the "urban legend" we were told when we were kids

So veronica is the girl in the movie ,REC (Not the news reporter) but the Spanish girl who was documented in News clippings pinned to the wall that the news reporter finds in that attic room she and her cameraman fled to hiding from the other tenants who had turned into zombie like creatures. The director decided to make Veronica sort of as a prequel to .REC Good job

The scary movie is all fun n games until it says “based on true story”

We watched it in Spanish classes and I gotta say I'm really confused by Antoňitos behavior. A little kid like him would undoubtedly be very scared in that sort of situation and would most likely not go in the general direction or even follow the demon. If there are some unexplained phenomena that justify this, let me know.

Calling it the “scariest film of all time” is EXTREMELY laughable. Like most rumors, apparently a few tweets from ppl that clearly aren’t horror movie enthusiasts (or have never seen a horror movie in their lives 🤦🏻‍♀️) said they had to turn it off midway through the movie bc they were so “terrified” caused a snowball effect. I was interested bc it had a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and that’s extremely rare, especially for a horror movie. But, idk why it had that high of a rating 🤷🏻‍♀️ it was a totally predictable average horror movie. (IMO)

An interesting thing I noticed while watching the movie is how many of the demon's actions mimic a sexual assault. It gives a different light to some of the main character's actions. The demon held her down with many shadowy arms and later choked her to death, a metaphor for the actual rape or event. Assault and rape survivors often feel like it follows them into their daily lives and changes their personality and how they view their friends or family, especially if they assisted or ignored the survivor's trauma in some way. They feel dirty or outwardly changed in some way, like with the demon's shadow on the mattress or claw marks and bruising. Her actual death could also be a metaphor, because even when she attempted suicide to take control over the situation, it was still the demon that eventually killed her, like how trauma survivors so often commit suicide. It's kinda heartbreaking, but also a different way to represent how greatly rape can harm a person.

curious fact: the girl of the story this is supposedly based on ( though it's completely different) was estefania. and Veronica is the female name that "bloody mary" ( the ghost in the mirror) is given in spain, and the urban leyend was very popular in the 90's, with kids daring each other to say " veronica" a number of times in front of a mirror, just like with "bloody mary". there is no particular reason for the name to be veronica in spain, i guess it was just a popular name or someone knew a vernonica and they didn't like her so they decided to use the name for the spanish version of "bloody mary" XD. but i would say that urban leyend is the reason they decided to name the character in the movie " vernonica" out of all names.

the movie is good and quite scary...but definitelyyyyy not the scariest movie ever. i think some of the scariest scenes are wondering if veronica was going to kill the kids - that's some disturbing crap (thankfully did not happen, but then again would have been interesting yet dark). either way, strong performances, even from the kids, and an awesome adaptation of possession and progressive horror.

Yeah...Veronica was a decent film. But it definitely wasn't lose sleep for a week scary. The Exorcist was actually a pretty unsettling film. I also remember the music to Exorcist 2: The Heretic being particularly frightening. I mostly get a rush when watching horror films. So there's a few, but not an overwhelming majority, that truly scare me. Recently The Blackcoat's Daughter got under my skin a bit. So did The VVitch, The Darkness, Los Sin Nombre (The Nameless), The Hidden Face/La Cara Occulta, Carrie...Many of them have that supernatural element, but others, like Kidnapped and Hush spark a very real and human fear. That "Shitty people doing shitty things to other people"...and it could happen to you vibe. Which is almost too real these days.

I had such an extreme dislike for Veronica's mother and friends while watching this movie.

Poor girl, she did her best to take care of her siblings.

so if its based on true story, I suppose she must have convinced her self about the possession and doing everything her self, while of course the final scene either being made up or more of human body doing quite impossible seeming things in a far more natural way. while these generally work only on subconscious level, completely insane people and supposed demonic possessions have way greater control over this. much like in the cases that the old exorcist movie is based on, which were mostly rapes of children and their overly sexual behavior and other weird acts, simply the method of dealing with the trauma. a lot of hints being given through out the movie, like the violated maria statue at the church, being similar to her art works.

I watched this film after hearing about it on Instagram and that Netflix say only 1 out of 100 people can finnish and experts say it can kill people with a weak heart and it just wasn't scary there were like 3 or 4 good jumpscares and the rest was meh
