Verpflichtungserklärung (Formal Obligation letter) is an alternative of Blocked Bank account for German student visa. Without blocked account, it is possible to apply for German student visa. Germany Student visa requires international students to provide evidence of having sufficient financial resources to fulfill all the living cost during stay in Germany. Verpflichtungserklärung is also used to invite parents, family members or friends to Germany.
To get Verpflichtungserklärung the host is required to visit the Local Ausländerbehörde or get the apppointment (if required).
Host must also be living in Germany and appear in Person for making an application for the Verpflichtungserklärung.
Host must be either holding Permanent Residence Permit (Niederlassungserlaubnis) or possessing Temporary Residence Permit with validity exceeding the validity of Formal Obligation Letter (Verpflichtungserklärung).
While visiting the Ausländerbehörde host must present certain documents and also provide certain data of guest, who is being invited. Host must present following documents in the Ausländerbehörde to get the Verpflichtungserklärung.
1. Valid passport or ID
2. Current proof of income:
Employed workers: salary statements of the past three months
Pensioners: pension statement
Freelance and self-employed workers: current tax certificate
3. Contract of Accommodation
Personal data of your visitor:
Surname and first name, Date and place of birth, Nationality
Address (in country of origin)
Passport number (or copy of passport), Expected Arrival Date
