Quite possibly the best Versailles video on RU-vid. No needless commentary, just POV real-life. Videos like these are saving me from losing my mind during quarantine, Thank you so much!

Very fresh look at a place of grandeur without the silly copyright free RU-vid background music and complaints about the crowds, the heat and the costs. It’s almost like being there. Bravo!

I’ve waited my whole life to go to Versailles since I fell in love with French history as a child….. You must have such patience, I don’t think I could stand that many people blundering about, clearly unsure of what they are looking at and why. It’s a beautiful place with an important history….. I didn’t realise there is a huge car park out the front of it though 😳…… thanks for sharing this

The main tour of the palace is a nightmare most of the time, it's true, but there are quieter times of the year. Away from that circuit, such as Mesdames' apartments, the Trianons or the private guided tours, things are much easier. The temporary exhibitions they stage are exceptional. Next year's will celebrate 300 years since Louis XV returned to Versailles - definitely one for the diary!

Visited Versailles almost 40 years ago on my first visit to Paris. So glad I went then. There was nothing like the number of visitors then as there are today. We walked straight in and paid for a tour with 30 people in it. Same is true of other tourist sites. One of the disadvantages of cheap air travel

These places are usually too crowded for anyone to feel anything... you are distracted by the thoughts of losing your passport, your children, making sure you don’t touch anyone and keep moving with the queue. Besides they never show you what you want to see.. the real possessions the bedroom the kitchen... it’s just a museum.

that was much less crowded than when I went there....
@Glorfinniel
@Glorfinniel 3 года назад
I know, the noisey crowds really spoil it. I've seen other videos were they had people packed in like sardines. You can't really enjoy the grandeur of Versailles when you're shuffling along like cattle to slaughter. People stopping and not moving over when taking pics. No one is being courteous that other people want to see rooms/art/antiques too. I call them viewing hogs.
@tigress63
@tigress63 3 года назад
@@Glorfinniel agreed! They need to limit the amount of visitors. When I went there the line ups were two hours - thankfully I had a way around that. But it was like the video above until all the buses with Asian tourists arrived. It wasn't because the people were Asian, it was just so many buses full of people all at once. I counted them and there were 15!!!! the buses all had Asian characters. Some Chinese, some Korean, etc. This was happening pretty well everywhere I went in Europe but it was the worst in Paris. The places need to have Do Not Touch in Asian languages as well - particularly in the Louvre. I was seeing young Asian men and woman going all over the statues. I sure that Western people do the same when they see places in Asia. All people need to have more respect when visiting foreign places and not to touch everything no matter if you're from the East or West.
@Glorfinniel
@Glorfinniel 3 года назад
@@tigress63 So true. I hate tour groups!! Its a nightmare being stuck behind a herd of them. Yes, I agree about Asian tour groups; they're so huge and just bulldoze through people. If they're not pushing pass you, they dont move and you're stuck behind them. As soon as I see the train of buses coming, I just want to get the hell out of there.
@tigress63
@tigress63 3 года назад
@@Glorfinniel I guess we've both been there and done that LOL I know that peoples from all over the world are guilty of this stuff (not only Asians) when visiting a foreign country. It's just the volume that changes what should be something interesting and pleasurable to where you don't want to go to these places. I don't know how long it will take until these places lose tourists because they jam pack the places. I have been part of the tourist groups when you go to a city and they have different tours, but in general they have limited space. I think it may have been at Nyphenburg Palace that when I got there a short time later the Asian tours all arrived and literally all the recorded rental tour recorders/mp3 players were all out and there were hundreds of them!! I mean I got there - saw a bunch on the shelf, went to the bathroom, then stood in line and then poof the line started disbursing...Then I get up to the desk and there is a sign saying no more tour rentals. But the tour groups from the agencies in Paris at least do have their own wifi receiver and the tour guide takes you through which is really nice. I don't know when many of these famous places will limit how many guests - I remember at the Eifel Tower, I kinda felt sick because we were all packed in like sardines and even though I had booked my ticket months in advance and went in the special line, there is no guarantee that you can actually see past throngs of people or not get jostled around when on the open viewing decks.

even pre covid, i wish that popular places like this would have crowd limits. this is nuts......great video though. the best versailles palace vid ive seen. all the others want to give history and dramatizations.

I went in August 2020 after the castle opened again, and despite the crowd limits there was still a lot of people coming from everywhere! Definitely less than in the video, but still enough that sometimes we were all stacked together lol

King Louis XIV was criticized for the expense of the palace-but consider that its construction and use provided thousands of jobs. Whereas we spend trillions on weapons, ships, tanks, etc.-that are eventually scrapped.

What a waste of time waiting in a queue to see something you'll never be able to enjoy with all of the pushing and shoving and body odour once you're inside. People running all over the god damn place, no order or calm. Also, there's a large crowd of pickpockets to make you feel more comfortable and secure. I'll be in that vineyard in Nuits St. George sampling the most delicious of sparkling wine......the rest of you fight in out in Versailles.
