kinda takes away from the whole oompa loompa being a people thing. And the songs being part of there culture. Folk songs unfortunately don't pay homage to nothing but themselves.
@@jon782 These are also the songs from the book, yes the 1971 version changes the songs to something and repetitive. I really got tired of hearing the songs from 1971 version.
@D JL I seem the movie in Spanish and English, sadly the 70's never got in my head. Seriously I always forget the lyrics of the 70's movie songs. But that's just my opinion.
I was watching this with my mum the other day and when Veruca was first introduced, I said to my mum, "Remind you of anyone?" and she answered, "Yeah - you!"
In the original movie, the squirrels of the book were changed to geese that laid golden eggs. Wonka had "egg evaluators" located in the same room where the geese were. Veruca got on one of these and was classed as a "bad egg". She fell down a chute which was supposed to lead to an incinerator. In "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", the geese were changed back to nut-opening squirrels. Veruca tried to capture one of these squirrels to take home as a pet. The other squirrels did not allow this.
Haha this is awesome! This reminded me how obsessed I was with this movie when it came out! Damn good movie! (and damn good book, for that matter) 'Horrid smeeeelll' XDXD
"these are verucas new found friends that she will meet as she descend" omg this shit is too funny, they threw her in the garbage and threw in a bunch of rotten food with her lmao.
This and the entrence song are probably the two best songs from the film(at least in my opinion). It's funny though, my friend's sister is alot like this version's Veruca, I guess that makes me the squirrel that knew something was wrong before all the other squirrels did.
Veruca Salt's Oompa Loompa songs (in both movies) really hits home in these days. I recently read an article that basically blamed social networking sites and video games for making this generation of kids the stupidest in history. Really though, it's the parents' fault (as the lyrics explicitly imply) for not correcting the child's regulatory and constitutive rules. If one allows youtube and video games to raise a child, then expect them to reflect what they learn from their "parents".
Well, he is the Nostalgia Critic, Nostalgia is 'old memories' usually, so it makes sense that he would focus on memories. I happen to love these songs.
Veruca was always my favorite character in this movie... (Even in The original version)... I don't know why though... I think I always liked her attitude... lol!
you are right i just finnished the book. it was really good and when i compared some of the songes from the 1st and 2nd movie the 2nd movie the songs had mor words in commen.
I didn't say he would always go for the old, just that he would go for the memories that he got from watching them, instead of things like visual quality (even though he does compare them)
And the lessons in this is :If you suddenly find yourself in the midst of singing Oompa Loompas, get the heck out of there because someone is going down.
I concur with your opinion, jelliclechristine. I remember "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" (1971) QUITE fondly. I didn't discover this version until after I became an adult.
Go squirrels!!!! ...youd think that 1 oompa loompa wouldve fell down too... ...we did a play of this and during one of the rehearsels for this scene where had a chute-thing (a pillow was on the floor so "Veruca" wouldnt get hurt, the ground was floor for that was raised) one of the people who was an oompa loompa fell down the chute on accident...lol...i will never forget that... XD
These Oompa Loompas were much better. They were way less creepy and inhuman than the 1970's ones, and much closer to the ones in the books. Plus, the songs are from the books. ^_^ That makes me happy.
To all of you people complaning about the lyrics in the song, allow me to explain. In the book verison of Charlie and the Choclate Factory, the author, Roald Dahl, actually wrote the lyrics to the songs that the Oompa Loompas were singing. I recently found my old coppy of the book and did a side-by-side comparsion of the song in the book and the song in this scene in the movie and they have the same exact lyrics. So don't blame the writers, blame Roald Dahl if you don't like the lyrics.
the old movie version is definitely a children's classic. however, burton's version puts the story closer to our time and it contains his eccentric yet fascinating style. I prefer the new version with its very itsy-bitsy hint of dark humor.
What I loved about this version compared to the original (which I love a lot too) is that they actually used the lyrics of the Oompa Loompa songs from the book.
Hehe you're right, you're right.. It's amazing what they can do with computer techniques, in Lord of the Rings you see those huge battles and it's actually just 100 orcs instead of thousands :P
I often get the feeling people only hate on this version because they see it as a remake of the 70's film and not just another adaptation of the book. (Some have better reasons, but I'm sure most think this way) I do personally prefer the 70's film, sure, but this one gets major points for staying closer to the source material. What people forget is that Charlie's supposed to be a "saint". The whole idea is that Charlie wins because he's the only good kid. The 70's film kinda contradicts that.
