I had my left driver cut in and out also and I had to send them back at the cost of $25.. but I must credit Verum for taking care of the issue immediately and sending me back an angled leather pad upgrade along with a perfectly cosmetic and working pair of headphones... It's a shame that some of the units are faulty but this is a true attempt at a start up company with a single mans dream and love for audio in the Ukraine.. The Verums when properly working sound absolutely beautiful to my ears and are waaay worth the $350... I'm glad I purchased them even with the issues I encountered because I feel I backed a project from the ground up.

Backer #300-something here - I have the imbalance issue, on occasion...have since I got them. I typically slap the cup which is exhibiting the issue _(sometimes both, repeatedly)_ and it is corrected. I will likely buy the new pair, then send these in for repair and give them to a friend when I get them back. They are awesome headphones - Coming from HiFiMan HE-500's/V-Moda M-100's and HE-4XX's, these are better in nearly every way. Plus, I don't need my speaker amp to power them, as I did for the HE-5600's - My Jotunheim does very well :)

I haven’t expedited the verums, but I heard it’s one man making these. One man. For 350 usd they seem like a total steal. There are problems, yes, but it’s incredible how one man has accomplished this. Hand making headphones and selling them across the world. Kudos to the creator

I have also had two sets of Focals with the clipping issue (one Elex and one Clear). I had numerous Focal Fanboys try to 'explain' to me that I was not hearing what I was hearing lol. The clipping was so loud on the Clears if you were sitting next to me while I was using them you could hear the clipping! This was at medium listening volume as well, not even loud. Thankfully I was able to exchange them both times. I still like Focals, but I wouldn't buy them without a warranty though.

I have had my Verum One V2's for several months now and have had 0 issues and I think they sound great. Too bad the guy making them is an asshole. As an owner of 20+ headphones varying from $150 to $3000, the Verums are easily the best headphones I ever heard for it's cost. If you use a good DAC/Amp, they are in the $1500-$2500 range as far as fidelity is concerned. I don't own them but have listened to them many times from a friend who got them. He Hasan even bigger collection of cans than me and the Verums are his go to.

Joshua DON'T do this.... This guy is trying to build a business with his passion and he is the first one that knows about any issue that appears. He is solving all the issues under warranty. You are taking his opportunity to solve the issues, iterate his product, and create the image he envisions for his business... you are taking all that effort and throwing it to the trash can... Perhaps he had some faulty batch, but he will iterate and his products will become better. They probably already are. But this video you decided to make will still be there like a dark spot, creating a bad image and he will need to carry with it. Not fair at all.

Well said, this slam dunk 'DON'T' and the controversy over inappropriate comments have been bouncing around the internet echo chamber and created a cacophony of noise. I have Verum 1 that are so far perfect. I think you are trying to be fair but there are 2 issues that should not be conflated. When you purchase anything from a company with no domestic U.S. presence it is likely there can be challenges when they are faulty. However, like you said at the start, it is very rare for headphones to be faulty. So, for me, paying $35 for shipping for repair of something that almost never fails is not a big deal. It sounds like Verum fixes defects quickly, and even sends some free upgrades for the hassles. However, since 2 out of 2 of your samples....from different manufacturing dates, have failed. that is a totally different problem. If there is a 30-70% chance of failure (and your experience was 100% failure), then the product is defective and should not be purchased. I hope Verum provides additional information on the issue and solve it, because I love the phones and think the steam punk/flash gordon aesthetic is perfect.

One effective way of checking channel imbalance is by doing a sine sweep (or just play a sine sweep video on RU-vid). It can tell you exactly which frequencies are affected and to what degree. The sound either shift left-right or one channel will just mute out if there's an imbalance. Based on experience most planars have mild channel imbalance in the treble. 2X 1.5k+$$ Hifiman Arya I auditioned has quite severe imbalance at mid treble region maybe due to the listening position on the large diaphragm. If a huge frequency range is affected then you know something is off with the driver.

Josh I recommend that you should review another functional Verum 1 and focus on the sound.. I must admit I originally put in an order for these in March 2019 and I finally received my purchased pair August 2019... Yes I know it was quite a long wait however compared to some of the items that one orders from msssdrop (drop) this is totally acceptable for me.. After hooking up my new Verum 1 to my Hiby R6 Pro this is what I found regarding sound: The overall sound of Verum 1 can be described as super sweet, warm, musical, playful, Zero-Grain, smooth yet well extended with good instrument separation zero distortions in the bass and pretty natural overall. The soundstage size isn't the largest but the instrument is very good. Overall imaging makes it a really good experience. I really love the sound of this headphone and to be honest for 350$ IMO these sounds like 700$ to 1000$ headphone easily.. What Igor has done has proved that great sounding headphones does not have to be costly.. Please, please do another review on the Verum 1 you will be amazed..💥💥💥

I ordered the Verum 1 at the start of the war, within weeks Kharkov was at the centre of Russian aggression and being bombed; I could hardly send an email asking when I'd be getting my headphones! Under the circumstances I didn't hold out much hope of ever seeing them but after 4 months I received an email that they were being posted! So glad I was patient and happy that I'd had faith and supported him when he needed it most. Up to that point I'd bought 5 pairs of headphones, they were all about £300 but the Verum 1 really are in another league, one which I wasn't going to enter unless I'd paid 5 times more that the £320 inc postage that these cost; I've arrived, I won't be buying another pair of headphones. An analogy; when you buy 6 bottles of cheap red wine and they all taste about the same you might conclude that you can't tell the difference between good and bad wine, you just don't have what it takes. Then by chance you get to taste a £60 bottle of wine (though not from a restaurant!) and now you know the difference.

Oluv did a binaural recording with the Verums and Sundaras and I got to say while the Sundaras had more detail compared to the Verums when Oluv switched out to the original track the Verums are like MILES closer to the source material. So in other words the detail in the Sundaras is largely artificial and sounds downright tinny compared to the Verums which are maybe a little bit on the opposite side of things and ever so slightly veiled next to the original recording. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-19kCiKSyOYc.html

Kickstarters are always fraught with peril, and I can also see why there would be no paid return shipping - it's just one guy and he can't really absorb extra costs, no doubt, the way your Sennheisers can. They just sell more headphones and call it the cost of doing business. But a smaller manufacturer has to either make money on the one product or lose his ass.

This guy is just a salesman. I have found the Verum1 mk2 to be a good headphone & for the money excellent & compete with headphones costing 2-3 times as much. When receiving hifi gear, I allow it time to reach room temperature + allow any condensation to evaporate, then break them in gently before any burn-in, if required. I can understand someone wanting to try them out straight away & blast them; esp if you've had to wait month's for them to arrive. I congratulate Igor for what he has achieved &+ embarrassing manufacturer's who are ripping people off with overpriced/heavily marked up gear.

Those Verum headphones are INSANE!...I sold my Focal MG Pro and kept the Verum, those how good they are. Talking with soothness and condescension doesn't change the fact that you need a visit to your nearest ear doctor if you really thought the sundaras were actually better and stuff. This guy seells you a headphone that could easily cost 3k for 300, and he does them alone. Is it broken?...give them back and wait for the next shipment, but making a whole video because you are butthurt it just doesn't make any fucking sense at all. The genius of the Indo-Europeans (Ukrainians are basically a mix of Arya-Sarmatians-Slavs-Scythians [R1a], Scythians-Celts [R1b], Cimmerians-Tatars [Q] and Caucasians [G]) producing such goods in garage-type manufactures under constant bombing is undeniable and one of the reasons, why Sarmatia (the ancient name of the country, of which the later Polish-Lithuanian "Borderland"=Ukraina forms just a part) is being constantly invaded. The alien invaders are: Androphagi (Germanic Rus' and their Teutonic/Frisian/Frankic/Saxon/Prussian… supporters [I]), Turks (north Siberian Huns, Pechenegs, Bulghars, Kipchaks, Seljuks… [N]), Jews & Arabs (Radanites, Karaites, Chechens… [J]) and their various bastards: germanized Turks (Varangians [N]), mankurtized/turkicized and germanized Alans (Ashina, Asud, Bashkirs, Ossetians… [R1b]), turkicized Jews & Arabs (Khazars, Ottomans… [J]), mongolized Turks (Nogais [N]) and other various bastards, known as Homo sovieticus, Soviets, Bolcheviks or "Russians". Putin a turkic Varangian [N] of mainly north Siberian origin with Androphagi [I] and Mongol [C] admixture and germanic friends and supporters is the current "Khan" of this ancient barbarian empire, which already started around 4 millennia ago by stealing horses and pirating the Indo-European metallurgy. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seima-Turbino_phenomenon Various cruel barbarian turkic khanates (the Xionites, Huns, Kidarites, Hephtalites, Seljuks…) followed. The Great Wall didn't stop those barbarians from entering China, nor Sahara from reaching as far as Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco. Only the uprising of the Mongols tamed them for a couple of centuries - the Mongol Kalmykia remains the only buddhist polity in Europe. "Russia" vel Soviet Union is the turko-judeo-germanic relic of the Golden Horde still enslaving and performing ethnocide and genocide on the native Indo-European and Caucasian population living here for around 45 000 years. West Europe is being since 2 millennia concurrently overrun by Androphagi (since Roman occupation called Germanic tribes after the fertile land called by Roman name "Germania" - original native name Perkunia - land of hard wood or oak trees). Ancestors of those proto-Germanic Androphagi [I] cannibalistic invaders (degenerated side branch of [IJ], of which also the Judeo-Arabic haplogroup [J] of slave-traders developed) entered Europe from the Arabian Peninsula following the first Indo-European, Indian and East-African agriculturalists and farmers, who became they prey (Natufians, "Göbekli Tepe", Starčevo culture, Vinča culture, Slavs & Celts). The invasion of the proto-Germanic cannibals initially spread over the eastern shores of southern Adriatic Sea, from where they invaded the proto-Slavic agriculturalist settlements of the Vinča culture. A group of those cannibals reached the river Danube and followed it to Ren (Rhine), Men (Main), Nida, Łaba (Elbe) to finally cross over to the moats of Scandinavia. Around 5000 BCE those cannibals from Arabia settled in the moats and caves around Motala, from where they invaded the indigenous Indo-Europeans (mainly an early branch of proto-Slavs) and after the arrival of the partially acculturated Turks (called in Scandinavia Finno-Ugric or Uralic peoples, e.g, Sami, Suomi, Komi…) also hunted for them and sometimes with them - so also the Varangians (ancestors of Putins of Tver) appeared. After the mentioned Seima-Turbino phenomenon spread advanced weapons among barbarians also the Androphagi tried to invade continental Europe from their scandinavian caves. Only the battle of Dołęża ("Tollense"), where they have been repelled by Scythian cavalry left some archeologic evidence, however small incestuous bands managed to survive hidden in dense forests and caves around the present city of Göttingen. A single one, probably from the initial group of 7000-6000 BCE - the "Cheddar man" - was found on the British Island. Aryan, Greek and Persian historic sources of the 1st millennium BCE report of Ἀνδροφάγοι living north of the Scythians, and later also of cannibalistic Tauri pirates of the Crimea, who use clothes of the Scythians but are not of the Scythian race. Those are the traces of the earliest Germanic invasions, both in West Europe and East Europe. Around 200 BCE the massive never ending invasion into Europe, Asia and Africa started (including "Drang nach Osten") and around 1000-1490 into both Americas. The Rus' and their bastardised Cossacks invaded Siberia, Central Asia and even Alaska. Australia became the planets biggest concentration camp for deported native European population of the British Isles (mainly Celts). The invasion on Ukraine and the Germanic sabotage in Hellas (Greece), Sarmatia (Poland, Hungary…) or Dacia (Romania) and refusal to compensate for repairs of the Germanic genocides and wars of the last century are enough to open eyes for those who can't see. These headphones are just insane. I upgraded from Hifiman 400Se to these and the difference is night and day. I actually wasn't expecting such a jump in performance for the price, and now I'm seriously wondering if I should look to upgrade. Either way, these headphones are exceptional for their price. I will say though that I personally don't love the wide circle pad shape, and would prefer an oval or rectangle - only because there's less reverberation within the cup. I also think that these headphones lack intimacy, something that I've somewhat acclimatised to. My first thought was to change pads but tbh I imagine it would disturb other qualities of the sound. I think another quality that I wasn't ready for was due to the sheer size of the driver it's an slightly unfamiliar retrieval. This is likely customary to almost all higher end planars though. Finally, The phones are lacking somewhat in the bass, and could use a slight treble shelf from around 2.2k onwards (3db), as like many other high end planars they tend to slant downward slightly from here, though remain flat right up into the high frequencies. I also EQ the bass and that sures up the very slight roll off. I also had to wait the full 6 weeks to get them but honestly it was so worth it!

@hamheadless
@hamheadless 3 месяца назад
Hi Josh (and everyone here), Honestly, I've found that the headphones are great, but the cable quality wasn't amazing. I've had my Verum 1 (mkII) for about 6 months now). I didn't have any notable imbalance on delivery, but the Verum started having issues a few weeks in, with what sounded like an intermittent, perhaps quieter/degraded signal coming through on the left channel, and it would last a second or two, then disappear for a week. Things went on like that for 4-5 months, then about a month ago, the right channel started to suffer from similar glitches. Things quickly went downhill from there. Long story short, after several tries of finding the problem, (it was intermittent afterall) it turns out that the resistance in the cables would hover around 0.04 - 0.1 ohms... and it would suddenly spike to anywhere between 0.7 (not 0.07) and 46 ohms. Then it started to just break entirely. However, I should mention that my first few attempts with a cheap multimeter were a complete failure because it takes a reasonably fast multimeter to catch this when it only lasts a fraction of a second, and I wasn't even moving the cables around much at all. Turns out, that the wires just below the left, and right driver plugs were fatigued, so I unscrewed the two split output plugs, unsoldered them, then I trimmed about 20mm (3/4") off the cord and resoldered it. What a difference that has made. PRO TIP 1 FOR DIY CABLE BUILDERS & REPAIRERS: I highly recommend a temperature-controlled soldering iron/station when working on the Verum-supplied cable. De-soldering worked best (for me) at about 340C (645F)... but when re-attaching I found that a LOWER soldering iron temp of about 290 Celsius (about 550F) was needed because the white/red insulation (around one of the cores) inside the Verum cable melts surprisingly quickly at higher temperatures. PRO TIP2: WIRING IS WELL THOUGHT OUT.... BUT MAY CATCH SOME OUT: You might think that with a typical stereo 3.5mm TRS plug, split into two more 3.5mm TRS plugs for the left and right speaker, that the output will be wired to the TIP/SLEEVE for Left channel, and RING/SLEEVE for Right channel. However, while this is true for the input TRS plug that runs both signals, HOWEVER, output plugs are wired in an identical TIP/SLEEVE configuration (just with a different white/red core from the Y-split soldered to the tip of the left/right driver plug). This is NOT a mistake, but allows the Left/Right cables to be swapped around... should you ever need to. RESULTS SO FAR: Since the resoldering, the left/right balance has been restored, and the reliability of the cord has been greatly improved. Not one glitch. In case you're wondering: "Isn't this just cable strain? Why mention this?" Now I want to be clear that I haven't been jogging with this set of headphones, I sit at my desk in my chair that's basically so heavy it might as well be bolted to the floor. I have had the excess cable float around the flat surface of my desk... so I don't think I've done anything bad to the cable. .... It's run on an amp and the headphones are either on my desk (minimal strain) or on its stand (again, not much strain). I think the sound quality through the cable is good, but the cable itself hasn't exactly lasted as well as I'd hoped. I feel that the cables aren't very robust, and I think that (in my case at least) this is not reflective of the quality of the headphones themselves. I understand why Josh has reservations, and with the war going on, I definitely wondered with every new attack: "Are the folks at Verum ok?"... and subsequently.. "Will I actually get my headphones?" however, Verum Mk II headphones have been great for my private listening space. I hope this helps someone out there, Hamish.

Really unlucky situation with Joshua units, I've contacted him and sure i'll fix everything once I receive them. The problem is not that massive as it looks from Joshua review and i'm constantly working on quality control. In fact I didn't have a single return from a batch of last 200+ units. It's usual practice that buyer should deliver item to service center (yep, service is in Ukraine :D). And as "i'm sorry" i include in every repaired unit a set of leather pads that usually cost's much more then return shipping. At 4:57. It’s weird to me so many reviewers claim Sundara has no bass. By default I hear it go down to clear sub bass levels. On top of that, when I use my Topping NX4 dsd or EarStudio es100, turning on bass boost easily matches my Beyerdynamic DT 1770 pro, and Philips Fidelio x2hr, which are labeled as “Bass Kings”. I think Sundara’s are actually pretty incredible sound wise. I heard HD800s at the Sennheiser store, and I thought they had worse detail and higher distorted at high volume. All tracks I tested were 16bit/44.1khz to 24bit/192khz, and I was using Sennheiser $2k DAC. Can’t recommend them for most people though since I’m pretty much always worried they will fail like every one else claims.

Man, this hurts me. I've been enjoying my zebrano and silver verums for about a month now without thinking too critically about them... kind of flat bass, great soundstage, good detail, remind me of the he4xxs but much smoother and bigger; A good thing to switch between with the hd 58xs. But then I saw this, and actually tried to listen a bit, and sure enough, the left channel is about 5-10% louder than the right. Huge bummer. I have a balance knob on my stereo amp to keep it level if i want to use them, but it's just a bummer. I really like these a lot more than my m1060 mr1s that I had since I can listen to them for hours without fatigue, but its going to bug me now that they're not balanced. Personally, it's absolutely worth the money to send them back to be fixed, but only if they'll actually be fixed. So, in your (borrowed) sample of one, it had a few issues. I got these a month back or so and they are honestly the best headphones under $700 that I've tried. I had the Grado Hemp and Focal Elex when I got these (both good headphones that I liked) and I found myself reaching for these more than either of those. It also had the best build quality and comfort out of the three. The sound is subjective of course, and even though it lacked detail compared to the other two it just has a more enjoyable sound signature. These are hands down the best headphones for hard rock and heavy metal that I've tried. I hate saying things like, "these can compete with headphones twice the price" because you can always pick a shitty headphone twice the price and compare it to those, but at $350, these are unbeatable.

I noticed a bit of condensation on the magnets and a bit on the driver itself. It was in a perfect circle where the opening of the ear cups are. These are the only headphones that I have ever perspired in so I never thought to check. I have not really encountered any sound problems yet. My only issues have been: wrong color sent, raised bubbles in the paint on the yokes and on the cups, the right cable connector is a bit lose as well and the drivers are crinkled (this seems to be common and doesn't appear to affect sound).Despite these issues I do love the sound of them.
