Very easy way of controlling CD DVD ROM spindle or BLDC motor (TA8493AF BLDC motor driver)

In this video i show how to control BLDC motor that you have salvaged form an old CD/DVD drive very easily. Making this setup doesnt require much knowledge and effort, but gives you very good test circuit for testing different BLDC motors. Of course as it is the setup is not very usable, so later on i am going to make my own board for the motor and make some kind of digital control for it, so that i can use it in some of my projects.

Nice work I managed to drive my motor too but I have a lot of problems . I used BA6665FM with this datasheet www.datasheet4u.com/PDF/233708/BA6665FM.html?p=1 I connected the following pins Pin 25 to 5v Pin 27 to 12v Pin 8 to GND Pin 21,22 to variable resistor which connected to GND The motor started running in one direction only for 30 seconds then it stopped so I disconnected the power and repeated as the same way. I think I used wrong pins for controlling the motor so please help me

you are the only one on youtube actually using the cd rom board itself to run the motors which is fantastic, Can you do a re visited video and go in more depth on how to put it all together please.

Nice upload man. This is the only video I have found that actually uses the motor driver designed for the bldc motor. Everything else is using generic elc drivers from banggood/amazon. Kudo's!

Hello, firstly, you powered the IC directly with 5V from the Power Supply, then you connected one Potentiometer Terminal to Pin 21 of the IC and the other Potentiometer Terminal to Pin 22 of the IC? Was that all? Thank you

Hello! Im sorry but this was very long time ago and I dont remember everything I did there... First of all I assume I connected all of the power connections and ground connections from the external power supply. Then I set the operation mode according to the video (MS pin and Break pin) and lastly I connected the potentiometer between Vref and Vc pins. I think that should be all.

Mohegan snow with pwm pin you can give a pwm supply from Arduino with a use of potentiometer so you can control the speed of motor. I have four such ESCs, but I'm not sure which pins are motor pins and supply, pwm pins.

Of course it is possible! the TA8493AF is the only active part in the schematic. You just need to add required caps and resistors and it will work. I bet there is some test circuit in the dataheet.

I know its been like 2 years since you posted this video and someone else already asked but you did not answer. So I will ask again. But can you tell specifically what wires you connected to what location. ex 12v to pin 5. 5v to pin 3. pot to pin 21,22, etc. I cannot tell where the wires are connecting from the video. Or if anyone in here can tell it to me it would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Dude: you should keep the original board. Connect +12v and +5v via original connector. Connect the motor via original cable. The motor can be running for a minute or so when you turn the power on. If not, you need to change the control wire, like the Vref, I had one marked 'spindle', connect it to 3.3v, change the voltage a little . Good luck

Thanks mate! I actually used it in one of my course projects in my university. I made simple satellite positioning system and i used this motor as a reaction wheel. For that purpose i needed to make the speed control digital.

+Karel Russ Hi, i used one power supply which was set to 12V, but for the chip i used 5 V regulator which was connected to the 12 volts.

RatmenKamikadze, what is the reason cutting PCB first before connecting some wire on IC ? how if directly wiring cable to IC without cutting PCB ? will any problem if do like that?

+Umar Bukhori i cut it first so that there would be no other circuits that draw power, because all power rails are connected.

+RatmenKamikadze ... Ok, great .... so you remain the componen (resistor and capacitor) near IC following what was displaying on the data sheet ? or by simply just cut the PCB nearest IC area to ensure the power supply only supplying power to this IC ?

+Umar Bukhori in my case it was quite easy - there were only several components near the IC. I left those but before i cut the PCB i traced where all the traces are going so that i wouldnt cut some components off. you can off course look in datasheet too, but the circuit in datasheet can be different than that on the PCB.

+Philippe Horowitz the arduino is not used in this project! the arduino was a part of another project. I used the voltage regulators from that project, the arduino wasnt used, its just built in the project.

vienīgais, ka tādos jaunākos diskdziņos tās mikrenes tā vairs nestrādā, viņās ir apvienotas neskaitāmas funkcijas, piemēram, lēcas fokusa kontrole, lēcas pārvietošanas mehānisma kontrole un taml... no tādām īsti nesanāk tāda forša autonoma motora vadības sistēma.
