Great job! I have been a mechanic for over 30years and have done some pretty "unconventional" repairs but I would have thrown that out lol. You give me new hope for the younger generation.

Thanks! It really is simple to do. I have not tried this on older radiators but I imagine that most vintage radiators would hold up to being straightened.

The rows in the center can be pulled straight with a heavy piece of wire threaded between the thin metal vanes, pulled from the outside with a piece of straight wood to protect the outside of the radiator. Thread the wire between the vanes, bring it above the wood protecting the outside of the housing and gently pry in several areas until it more straight. Start farthest from the side you're prying from, the vanes will pull straight when you progress toward the edge you're prying from.

If it's bent up, it definitely will not flow as good. After fixing it I'm sure it helps open up the fins again and increases flow, but if it's as good as new in terms of cooling efficiency is another question. You're talking about air flow correct?

if the radiator is bend like that, does it effect the cooling of the engien?Most people say that its nothing to worry about. my radiator is bend a little but it never has overheated
@danielnapast4955
@danielnapast4955 7 лет назад
gabriel nelzn Often when its bent that badly the plastics no longer fit, but you are right, the operation of the radiator usually isn't effected when just bent.
@frankvisone9188
@frankvisone9188 6 лет назад
Yep. Mine looks just like the one you repaired in this video. I raced an enduro with it 2 weeks ago and had no issues with over heating. I plan on rebuilding the bike over the winter, and was going to go with new aluminum radiators, but now that I've seen this I may just try and fix the OEM I have now and put that money toward something else. Thanks for the tip!!!
