Funny Addition to this video that makes it even better: Dataminers recently found that, due to a quirk of the way growths are decided on during a level up, every Growth Rate in the game is exactly 1% less than its supposed to be. Which means... Barth actually has a 1% chance to increase Resistance when he levels up. ... A growth that you procced multiple times. Wow.

Here's the best part: Despite having a 100% HP growth, he still didn't max health. XD

That is an insane challenge. I may have only had experience with the easiest Fire Emblem games, but even somebody who has barely touched the franchise can tell that Barth is pretty much crap and should be ignored entirely. Though speaking of knights that are ignored, there was a knight that I found to be really useful in Awakening... but for the life of me I can't remember his name.

Honestly, I wish there was a game like Fire Emblem, but in addition to promotions doing what they do, they affect stat growths and let you decide how you want it to affect them: Wanna double down on what a unit is already great at? Go the specialist route and further push those high growth rates. Wanna work on mitigating their weaknesses? Take the alternative, the primary growth rates remain the same, but the lower secondary ones start growing as reliably as the primaries. So you could have a Mega Knight, like Barth here, taking little to no physical damage at the cost of still hitting like a wet noodle. Or you could get a Bruiser Knight, who can dish out what he takes and even double some classes beyond the fodder and other knights.

XD Your Barth looks like my Gilliam on every playthrough on sacred stones. He got doubled by the Cyclops every time until I got him speed boosters. And I never used him in levels where I knew magic users were present.

Considering the developer of Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia commented that he'd want to remake FE6 next...I really...REALLY hope they improve... like, everyone. Not just Barth, but Barth especially.

I love Armor Knights, but they're usually terrible, but I still love them. Gatrie and Gwendolyn and Gilliam are my favorite units from their respective games. I just like the clunkiness and bulk, but I like Gatrie because he's clunky and fast at the same time. Gwendolyn is sort of like that, but not quite.

Pretty sure knights are designed to hold chokepoints and defend important locations anyway. But you could use a paladin or a general (if you have one) for that anyway.

I leveled up Wendy on my last FE6 playthrough, gave her boots and she became one of my runners.

Due to your profound interest in Fire Emblem, I've actually started to play FE8 in my own time. And, to be completely honest, Gilliam seems to land double attacks on many enemies I've encountered. Only problem is, though he's excellent at being a meat shield, he's also kinda hogging all the experience..

I'm curious to hear about your opinion on X-Com: Enemy Unknown (older ones or the current one, whichever you played) I think it's very similar to a typical SRPG, and it certainly keeps the frustration factor of one as well

Only a person that hates themselves would try this challenge! I honestly tried to never use him ever when I played this one. The game was so unforgiving on those hit ratios.

I really enjoy the three houses where you can put knights. On horses. They went from tedious tank to insane face tank. It helps most of the characters have wonderful growth rates that can flesh out the flaws of Knight.

Welp, I have completed this challenge. It was oddly fun all things considered, but at the same time, I'm unsure whether I want to do it again.

there is a way to get Barth's resistance to max easily that's if you're patient : save the game, make barth fight if he doesn't get any resistance soft reset the game and you should be back at the last time you saved plus you should get barth close to leveling up. untill you can save again

Actually...this could be done very tediously with a speedrunning trick common to all three gameboy fire emblems: The RNG in those games is broken as hell, and rerolls itself in a few different scenarios. 1: The first frame the entire phrase (Enemy Phase) is on the screen. 2: The first frame the entire phrase (Player Phase) is on the screen. 3: Whenever the arrow to move a character changes position or has to recalculate its path (say if it decides to move around a forest, or you move the cursor outside of the move range and back in). When any of these actions occur, the game rolls high/low between 1-100. If its low, the number moves down, if its high, the number moves up. Or its supposed to. Actually, you can manipulate the RNG to give you EXACTLY what you want by just running the cursor around this map for a while. Admittedly this would actually be the most tedious thing ever, but you could theoretically give him a res point every level through this.

Imagine if Barth came to heroes and has 2 res as a 5 star max leveled unit or the only unit that shows negative in a stat like -2

I know your problem. You've gotta find the secret shop that sells the 2% milk. Side note, this guy makes Wallace look like a god. I always love using Oswin, tho (never played FE6 myself, but played the s* out of 7 and a handful of playthroughs on 8).

Coming to see this video for the first time after echoes was released and seeing barth's res growth-it looks like he was air lifted (somehow) from Gaiden to FE6. The usual res growth for that game is like 1-5% for "res heavy" characters edit-that secret shop, I forgot you could buy boots, god that is amazing

If you don't use emulator or don't have access to save states, here are a couple of guidelines for the arena: 1 - Start by gauging the highs and lows of the betting threshold by cycling through a bunch of offers. 2 - Accept low bets. 3 - Soft reset the game if you get a bad match-up before you start the fight. 4 - Flee from crits and silver weapons. 5 - If you back out, do so before an opponent's next attack(s) would have any chance of killing you(Ex: 1%hit, 1% crit with 20 base dmg for 60 total). If you want to optimize your run, consider rigging the RNG and surround the arena unit with compatible support. Also consider either using a bard on your healer or having more than one healer. You can also set up a rescue chain around the arena and a vendor trading chain for further optimization. Getting Barth up to 25 res without items or cheats will absolutely require RNG rigging and savestates.

This video and character highlights precisely why I can't stand Fire Emblem. So, so much luck-based stuff going on. I can't stand that attacks can miss so easily but your stats too? That's too much for me. Advance Wars imho is vastly superior if only because luck plays such a small part of how everything is calculated (Attacks only vary in +/- 5%, so it's super rare that luck will win or cost you a battle) and I can correctly plan out my strategies based on solid facts. Same reason I could never play the Super Robot Taisen games outside an emulator with Save States, and that game was so easily gimped it's not even funny.

i didnt use barth but i did use another knight. He was good though, mainly use for tanking and luring enemies in and then ambush the hell out of them. Sometimes the knight/General can take care of themselves so yeah.

If you don't mind, I'd like to share an insane challenge I imposed upon myself. I've performed two insane challenges in a game. To this day, I still haven't fully completed one because of how bullcrap it is. Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep Final Mix Level 1 as Ventus (NOT the ReMIX version). The problem: the damage formulas in the PSP releases of Birth By Sleep are so bullcrap! Bosses that are endgame or higher (i.e. Secret/Super Bosses) take so little damage from a Level 1 character, PLUS they are immune to damage during various attacks! THE CHALLENGES: 1) Level 1 Mirage Arena: Once you get to unlocking and facing Iron Imprisoner III, it'll only take damage from critical strikes. At this point it has become completely immune to magic, so you can't just spam magic from a distance. I stopped just after finally managing to kill it after what must have been 30 minutes to an hour, because you have to face Iron Imprisioner III AGAIN in the next challenge, PLUS its final form (Iron Imprisoner IV)! 2) Level 1 Mysterious Figure/Young Xehanort: (I was successful with this one... at the exchange of my sanity.) This guy cost me so many hours of unsuccessful attempts! My successful run ended up taking 6 hours because of all the BS he can pull off! (It could have maybe been less, but I elected to only attack when it was very safe.) He's immune to damage during various attacks, so you MUST know which ones can be properly punished, and his second (and final) phase has him throwing a TON of attacks that force you to keep dodging, PLUS he can turn invisible, which removes your lock on him, which just wastes your time, as you are forced to keep dodging. The Mysterious Figure/Young Xehanort's most sinister move is an attack where he creates clones that all attack at once. The problem here is that the PSP can barely handle having them onscreen, thusly causing significant lag that can ultimately delay your inputs to the point of not even reading them and kill you. I can attribute many losses to him because the game didn't read my inputs during his clone attacks!

Ok, so Barth starts with 1 Res point at lvl 1. For him to get 25 Res points we'd need at least 21 lvl ups (3 less with the inevitable +3 Res from promotion). So, we need to hit a 2% Chance 21 times, which would be 0.02^21 which is 0.000000000000000000000000000000000209% chance of getting the 21 res points you need.

I find Wendy to be harder to train than Barth. With Barth, most I would do is give him a Skill Book and slim lance, and he will be able to deal and take some damage. Wendy... she has weak attack, but not only is she slow, but has terrible defense. Getting a mainly close range unit doubled by enemies while having bad defense make a terrible experience.
