I used to own G880 KDA Sunny Estate 1.6 12v. For some reason, this car was TWICE as powerful as it should have been, all as completely standard. I had it rolling road tested and it came back as 131bhp at the wheels! 155 biscuit tin wheels, pea-shooter exhaust, yet it would beat RS Turbo Fiestas and the like all day long. It was mad. People in Tamworth knew it as the Stealth because I had the word S T E A L T H added in reverse to the front grill for a joke. 0-60 was 6.something seconds, top speed was all the way around to the odo reset button and then some! It was MAD! I also had D213SET which was the 8v engine and nowhere near as fast. I grew up on boxy Nissans. My first one was the Stanza C515NCN which my Dad bought from a garage as a part-ex to sell. It was immaculate and had the thick pile carpets, so good you could take your shoes off. Various other Nissans we have had in the family - another Sunny the same as D213SET but in gold and with the 12v engine (not as fast as the Stealth), my 100NX, 200SX s13 CA18DET H775HLP and my brother's current car P733PLY which comes up as a Skyline but is actually a series 1 Stagea RS4 with the RB25DET and 4x4.
That B12 Sunny Estate would have been fitted with the later GA16 engine, as you say a 12V unit. I actually drove a Sunny Estate with that engine (I think it was anyway) back in 2021. The GA16s are absolutely fabulous engines, very, very happy to rev. I also drove a 1994 Sunny Traveller N14 on the same day (same owner), and it was even better, again with the GA16 engine, but the later ones like this were 16V. The E16S in this car is the earlier engine, and it's nowhere near as powerful. I actually also drove two Stanzas on the same day in 2021, which belonged to two friends, so I have sampled a lot of 1980s and 1990s Nissans over the years. I also drove a 100 NX in 2022, which, once again, had the GA16 engine in it.
Well done, sir. What a lovely survivor. This is the sort of thing that feeds the enthusiasm for your channel and the scene in general. That colour is super!
Great that a 1980’s Japanese top spec car has joined your Channel, Sir. Fantastic survivor & look forward to Mr Coleman’s sympathetic repairs. My dad had a G Reg Bluebird 1.6, but the engine had the spark plugs at the back, so it may have been the earlier engine, been a Sunderland built car.
Yes, this E16S engine is not the same as the CA16 Bluebird engine, despite the fact that you could also get the CA16 engine in the Sunny! Both were eventually replaced with the later GA16 engine, which was available in the N13 Sunny from 1989 and the Primera from 1990. All of these were 1.6 in capacity. It is extremely confusing.... The Bluebird would have been a T72, indeed a Sunderland built car.
Nissan Sunny N13's were great. My neighbour used to have a 3dr 1.3 SLX in white. It was always one of the1st cars to leave the street on cold mornings too.
We called these Nissn Sentra in New Zealand. They were so so much better than the previous model which really did not handle well at all at a speed. They were also much more solid in the bodywork. We had both generations types as work pool cars.
Yes, known as the Pulsar in many markets as well. The N12 Pulsar/Cherry was probably not quite as good as one of these. The rust protection was probably better on these N13s, but they are still really old now.
My dad had one god bless his soul a gray hatchback great car my dad loved it 1.3 good on fuel the clutch was sliping i think it was e reg only gave £250 the rear shocker went and the private seller paid for new shockers,£200 god as my witness the garage could not believe it
I went to look at a 5 door model of this car about 7 year's ago. The mechanic who I used said they were bullet proof. I didn't get it coz the MOT said it had rust at the rear.
Nissan well in New Zealand advertised that you could take your Datsun to a new renamed Nissan dealer and get one of those 50 Year Nissan badges added to your old car for free. The late 80s and early 90s was an exciting period for all the Japanese manufacturers.
