VESC 🆚 GT on SF's steepest hill: Bradford street! 🥊
Do you guys remember the gt hill climb vid FM did a while back? That was 8 days after I posted the first VESC vs GT hill climb🍻 They made a vid showing Adam Lazor riding up SF's steepest rated hill at 41%/22 degrees. Went there and you know, we had to try it out for science too 😋
This video was taken a few weeks later, but got caught up editing other vesc vids so totally forgot about this one!
That Lazor fellah is one helluva mountain goat.. Cuz we could not recreate his gt hill climb with me nor Aldrin at 145lb. I weighed 43lbs more than him and still smoked on the vesc with stock xr battery and 10% less battery..

Vesc is so rowdy and strong haha. My buddy in town and his XR will be going up a hill and turn off “too rowdy” notification. Meanwhile I’ll stand on a incline with my motor just vibrating viscously not moving a inch. Thats a steep hill!

Love the high pitched vroom from the vesc when accelerating,, makes the motor sound like a V10! That steep part was very daunting, camera really mellows it out. Didn't think it would make it after the first attempt.

It's gnarly how the vesc can just hold still on the steepest slope! Not great for motor temp tho lol 🫣

VESC XR was handicapped with that sketchy stock 15s battery. Gotta redo the test with the same battery that the GT has (18s P42A I believe)

Yep I deliberately handicapped the vesc with stock xr battery (62v), 10% less starting charge, and 43lbs more load (me) to show that vesc programming is far superior. And it still smoked the gt in every single round. The only fair comparison would be a vesc 15s vs 18s vs 20s, gt is irrelevant 😆

haha but what would you want to see? The vesc smoked the gt every round. Or perhaps just how much faster it can go up?

@@MaxxSend good point. At least on that hill, the GT isn’t a viable comparison. 15s VESC needs to complete against 18s or 20s VESC in timed run up the hill.

It probably wouldn't be a huge difference as it turns out extreme hill climbs doesn't use that much duty cycle (30-60%). The big difference would be top speed.

My guess is that the GT will have some reserve power for pushback scenarios with the vesc give y’all the power up front and has no push back?

The vesc also has pushback (tiltback) that you can set at your own safe or unsafe levels. The controller allows more amps to flow from the battery, and the electrical components can handle more current than gt electrical components.

@@RTAMOTORSPORTS yea it's still the last weakness of vesc, not having an active balance bms. However, there are already multiple passive bms options (meaning it doesn't continue to balance after full charge). There's ennoid, xlite, daly and one other that people are happy with that they keep the cells balanced within range during charging. I myself have a passive daly in my 84 cbcso that I'm good with. Keeps the cells within 0.03v delta. My trick vesc is cbsp and doesn't have bms, just gotta remove the pack and balance every 2 months or so.

@@MaxxSend I've tried 63 and 84 and I like the weight of the lower voltage setup a lot. I find GT too clunky on technical trails, too heavy also. Need both all the same, but it's a different feel
