What are the things I noticed Steve is that the other drivers in their cars saw you were having a problem with the backed up and gave you room. They didn’t start crowding you and honking their horn..
I had a 64' model Diamond T, Steve. Just as tough as Autocar. Double chassis rails 5x4 changed it to a 610 Roadranger x 4 speed joey. It could climb up a brick wall as "they" say. Out with the petrol/gas (for you guys) in with a V8 Cummins, still too small. Big rubber buffers under the rear. Unbreakable. I'm 73 now and watch you make all the smart moves that I was never capable of. I'm sure my last name should have had an " i " in it and not an " a ". Greetings from Australia bud! Doing a great job. 👍
At least you recognize the problem and corrected the situation and went on with no damages to your unit or the state’s property, other drivers would have just plowed through ruining the company property and/or state property. Good driving Steve.
My dearly departed dad used to say you'll never live long enough to learn everything about your job.. and so always try to keep an open mind and ears. He drove for CF for 38 years.
There's several R model Mack dump trucks near me locally, to this day, still working. They're as you describe: raggedy and bulletproof. Especially impressive our rough Canadian winters, though I'm sure you're no stranger to that in Wisconsin. Kudos for showing your error - everyone makes them from time to time!
To be honest: I didn’t know that you have/had Alopecia but I never ever was bothering why you have no hair nor did I find it interesting at all. I watch your videos because I like your truck, I like your way of trucking, you’re commentary and especially the very good camera work (I’m a cameraman for nearly 20 years now so I really appreciate when people “please my eyes” with good shots and/or different perspectives!) All the best from Germany 🇩🇪, Philipp
Fun watching you drive on roads that I have driven over many times. I was born in Fall River and grew up about 12 miles from where you delivered. My high school use to play West Bridgewater in football. Be interesting to see where you pickup your load in Connecticut. Always enjoy riding along with you as you travel everywhere. Thanks
Dude this is what I love about this channel. We all f-up from time to time to time. It is what it is. And it wasn’t really an f-up it was a misjudgment really. Hell I’ve done it once or twice…. LOL. Love the channel and what you do. Thank you Steve for sharing your stories.
My late father only owned Macks. I grew up in an R-Model until he passed in 89. He drove Tri-axle dump trucks. And I remember seeing the old Autocars, too (The Konstrctor??). I asked Dad why he never bought a Kenworth or Pete and he said "For over the road, you can't beat them. But for this work, they can't hold up. Sometimes too much eye candy, too. You ever see a beautiful R Model??" I knew what he meant lol.
Coming over that last bridge (Newport bridge) the Newport Navy Base was on your left along with the Naval War College. To the right was the tourist area of Newport. It’s nice down there. URI Oceanography school where you delivered the generator is a good school. Robert Ballard, who found the Titanic wreck and dove on it is a huge supporter of the research vessel there. Thanks for sharing the video. The eye candy was worth backing up a few times. 😂😂😂
You went the right way, the George Washington Bridge for 195 in providence is the one that made national news and the traffic is messed up. Driving up through Jamestown, Newport, Middletown is a prettier ride. Only positive to going down 195 would have been driving by BB 59 USS Massachusetts and the rest of battleship cove. You and Jenn should bring the boat up, spend a few days in Matunuck, Narragansett, Block Island, and Newport. I think you'd love it. We'll blame the turn on ri dot making it too tight lol.
My ol man was 30 years in before gps ... paper maps ...he had a load that took him thru a small town and they turned a thru road into a dead end after 10 miles ...no signs nothing ...he had to back up ten miles to get out of there ...
I saw you today while you were eastbound on I-80/94 crossing the Illinois/Indiana state line. Heavy congestion in that area! It was around 1155 this morning.
Ooops we,ve all missed judged a turn Steve what i notced the well mannered motorist that sat back leaving you room to manouver, car drivers here in Aus dont tend to wait they,ll try to sneak past 😢😢.I must say your work takes you to very interesting places beautiful country unlike the warehouse to warehouse work other utube drivers do. Retired Aussie driver Kym
Steve, Great video. Your Brockton delivery allowed me to see streets in my backyard that i have not driven in 20 years. Boy, things have really changed in the neighborhoods since I was last there. Great to see what they look like now. I look forward to all your new videos. Chris is a great addition to your team. Dan 😊
I guess Autocar is still going. the one you seen was a DC-64. this is what I found out about Autocar, " 1953, White Motor Company acquired the company. A few decades later, in 1981, the Swedish company AB Volvo acquired all White Motor Company’s assets, including the Autocar branding. This led to the formation of Volvo White Truck Corporation. Then, in 2001, GVW Group, LLC purchased the Autocar brand to form the Autocar, LLC you know and love today. The Autocar brand returned to its roots as an American-owned brand for purpose-building the highest-performing severe-service trucks.
So far Autocar is only making vocational trucks, no long haul. My uncle had 2 or 3 early 60's Autocars. He hauled granite tombstones, curbing, and huge blocks all over the US out of North Georgia.
You mentioned the Mack and Autocar dump trucks that would run forever as kids. I also remember Brockway was the same way although Brockway was part of Mack. The Huskies were durable and run forever. They all looked beat up and kept on running. Dependabilty and then some.
You ever notice that turn signals seem like an after thought with most people? I think turn signals must be an option on newer cars as the don't fn use them!!!
props to the driver of the black pickup though, that driver not only gave you room he/she protected that zone for you. also....if you speak of autocar in the past you must mention brockway... :)
Hey Steve I’m 64YO amazing I’m still kicking after surviving a pretty tough motorcycle accident that medically retired me from my career as an A&P mechanic but getting back to the point as I got older I saw that I was starting to get Wavy hair because I was waving it goodbye 🙄😳😎 take care out there, man I hope you got a kick out of that
It dont take much to keep your wheels shiny and it tells the customer that you take pride in your ride and will take pride in their equipment that you are delivering you dont have to have a show trusk but shiny wheels are cool and easy to take care of
I think the Truck GPS is misleading at times. The big company I work for I would call the navigation office and tell them a route was a not a truck route. And why. And they would do a reroute for us. But remember the driver needs to verify because he can’t say that my GPS said it was ok and go anyway. Thumbs up 👍
A lot of people nowadays are so wrapped up in themselves/whatever is on their phone that they are oblivious to the rest of the world/where they are/etc. Plus many lack any common sense or respect for others. Put that together with not knowing/not caring/'me first'-the world is in a heck of a fix. You just see more of it being in diferent situations all the time.
It's on the list, but there's a lot of rainwater that got in from the windshield as "Orwell" sat and it took a toll on that gauge cluster. Chris got then to light up because he was focused on doing other work in the dash and found a grounding problem. Steve's gonna want to get old school gauges and it might be a while. He's gotten by this long, it'll hold out.
Yeah Steve they have been back for about 8 years now they are more heavy class 7 then class 8 the DC 64 shares a cab with Western Star I could be wrong on that back in the 60s&70s White & Diamond REO &Westernstar Autocar all shared the same Appolo series cab those were all independent truck MFGs up until the late 60s but The infamous White Motors Corporation aquistioned all and brought them in house at White Motors Corporate infrastructure in Cleveland Ohio they all got to keep their own names but were produced more efficiently shareing a lot of parts now Thomas White was a corporate genius at one time they produced many products washing machines sewing machines Bicycles drill presses Cars & Trucks
Here in CT there is company that has signs on their trucks that read - Behind every bouncing ball comes a running child. You were just watching her two bouncing balls. You were cautious and no one got hurt….😂😂😂😂😂
A ventrian truck drivers makes mistakes but they don't panic and correct their work and move on. That Accra driver , I was waiting for him to make a youturn right in front of you. And what did those orange cones do to make you take them out. 😮😂😂
Grind it till you find it LoL, It happens to the best of us. As long you caught it, most drivers just run the sign down and keep moving like nothing happen.
As a long time captain running 100 foot plus yachts, the story is, back out the same way you came in and if you f up, back up and re think your approach. Let time stand still until u get it right. Like the turn you almost made. Same thing, same thought process. Trucking and large boats have a lot in common in handling Btw I've only been doing this for 40 years and still f up once in awhile. Happens to us all. The killer are those assholes who won't admit it
I used to get people mad at me by telling them noone is perfect, - exept me. But the truth is, noone is perfect. I think you do a good job in your old truck.
