This dude with his resonator guitar belting out an anti establishment protest anthem to his three dogs and a microphone in the middle of the woods is the most punk rock thing I've ever seen. In this performance of Rich Men North of Richmond, (as well as many other performances) Oliver is playing a Gretsch G9220 Bobtail Round-neck Mahogany Body Resonator - 2-color Sunburst, Padauk Fingerboard. This appears to be his primary guitar as every performance so far he's seen playing one.

It's a dobro (or resonator) guitar. Lynyrd Skynyrd sang about it in "The Ballad of Curtis Loew" back in 1974. Check it out.

This also gives depth to the reason his voice and the Gretsch resonate together in such a powerful and meaningful way. Chris aka Oliver is playing a steel guitar (Gretsch Resonator Guitar) Used a lot for American blue grass music.
