"Jekyll and Hyde" is amazing too. And "Lift me up" is one of my all time favorites. Also "A little bit off" is something special. They just tell about one of these days when you want the world to leave you alone. But they do it in a way that instantly raise your mood.

Homeless veterans. Explained very simple. The government doesn't care. The military doesn't care. Once you are discharged, you are no longer their "burden/problem". I was one of the lucky one's in which I have a wife, kids, a roof over our heads, and food in our stomachs. It kills me every time to hear/see this song. The part "It's me, Jacoby. You saved my life brother.". Makes me tear up every friggin time. It just kills me. On a side note. My wife surprised me with tickets to FFDP. It was them, Bad Wolves, and Breaking Benjamin. Zoltan at the end of one of the songs, pointed to me, tapped his head, meaning the hat I was wearing, and tossed me his pic (I was the only one within 5 rows actually wearing a hat. Chris, the bassist did the same thing, but didn't get the pic, he tapped his head, nodded at me, and gave me a thumbs up. After the show, I actually got to speak with Ivan, the singer. He shook my hand, thanked me, talked with me for a bit, and took several pictures with me, then with my wife. I support this band with all my being. They are pro police, pro military, and pro American. To the 71 people as of 6 Nov 2021 that gave you 71 thumbs down. FUCK THEM.

My dad was broken as an army man. In turn it broke our family. He has PTSD and night terrors and mom drank. The state took us away saying they were dangerous to us. HE fought for us for YEARS but they finally pushed him till he broke more and let go. Mom never fought at all. The same government that broke my dad, broke me too. Using the army to brake him and foster care system to break me. Sis got out at 7, older brother at 11. I was tossed out to the streets of Alaska at 18 when the checks stopped coming. I went through 23 homes, 3 group homes and a mental hospital for children three times. Meds the whole way. I was homeless for three years as learned how to adult. I was luck not to get in with bad drugs or get pregnant. That was the only things good I can say about that time. My dad is gone, I've looked. Found he killed himself by driving off a bridge into icy waters of a river in Keni.

You’re absolutely right, this song is extremely powerful, as is the video. In particular, I find the part where the woman pulls her daughter away from the homeless veteran, incredibly sad. And seeing the look on his face go from a smile with a glimmer of hope as the girl goes to hand him a flower, to a look of utter defeat and despair as her mother pulls her away from what she see’s as a “filthy bum”. It’s absolutely heart wrenching, especially seeing him holding that photo of a little girl who is probably his daughter, and knowing that the girl showing him kindness likely reminds him of her. The ending is heartwarming, though. Seeing two men who served together reunited. One of them having saved the other while they were deployed. And now the one who was saved, and seems to have had more success reintegrating into society, helps the other one who has fallen on hard times in spite of his sacrifice. And more than that, he’s also a veteran himself, so he can better understand what problems the other man has and why he has them.

I will have to politely disagree with you. Over 98% of inventors are Men, not women. Therefore, men are the ones who create. Otherwise, on the song and it's message I completely agree with you.
@jamesrichardson1748
@jamesrichardson1748 3 года назад
That's entirely untrue statement, men have created some of the greatest civilizations, businesses, products in human history. We also take part in creating children, and it's a mistake to discount our role in this process. Just because we can't concieve children doens't mean we have no role in their creation and not role in the development or respect of the world.

"Gone Away" is another of their songs focused around Military service. The band, especially Ivan Moody, the singer, is adamant about bringing attention to/and supporting our armed forces. Another song with a message from them is "Coming Down". "When the seasons change" is a song to his children if I remember correctly.

The concept of God being a she in this song, I always took it as a representation of a soldier missing his wife back home. She was his everything. Same pedestal as God. Then, when he came home, he had changed bc of all he had been through, so he felt like he had become what she didn't like anymore. In essence, he became a devil like existence compared to her perfect angelic self that the soldier always saw her as.

@doctorraccoon333
@doctorraccoon333 2 года назад
Wow, extremely profound concept! It could be his wife, girlfriend or a mother. It could also be lady liberty (aka America is also considered as she), truth is there is a stark and almost tangible contrast between the civilian and military mindset. Many of those who served tend either completely isolate or gravitate towards others who were prior service. Many postings here seem supportive, yet there are still many Americans who aren't. Granted it is their choice and right ( which was purchased through the the blood, sweat, and tears of America Service Members both past and present). Yet, sadly there are those who abuse these rights to attack their fellow Americans and Service Members. Unfortunately, I both witnessed and experienced these hateful actions just outside of military bases and posts, not overseas but on good old American terra firma. These people (sic the concept of god in the song) didn't just heckle or harrass the military members, but their families; mothers, spouses and children in a varity of public settings to include schools. Their actions can and have sometimes been harmful in nature. Their words cut like a knife and could be like harbingers of death, just as their disapproving and hateful looks, for if looks could kill they will. Many don't realize that the spoken word can be a used as a weapon, for it is mightier the a double edged sword. Especially, when the hearer is already wrestling to reconcile themselves notions of honor, duty, morality, which mr. Jon q public's feels is contradictory to his preconceived perception of these terms and actions. So, again thanks for sharing this concept, it was well written. As for the homeless Vets and those who are wrestling and trying to get an upper hand on PTSD, my heart, support and prayers are with them always.

I was the only one to ever ask him about his time in the service. Man, this band's entire body of work is a love song to the Military. They're one of the mainstays to listen to when overseas. The love is reciprocated from the grunts for sure. I hope you see this comment, I'd love to see your reaction to a SUPER deep cut in the same vein...."Sullivan" by Caroline's Spine. Sadly, not many people even know this song exists :/ Pick a video that shows the lyrics so you fully understand it, and I dare you not to cry. I don't care how battle-hardened you are, this song can leave you blubbering like a baby. And it's a TRUE story!

Oooof, that one gets me right in the feels. During WW1 the British establishments came up with the bright idea of calling up men all from the same areas. The theory was they'd acclimatise more easily with friends; the reality? Entire streets lost all their young men and those men watched their friends from childhood die amongst absolute hell. My grandfather and his four brothers all went to WW1. And, astonishingly all five came home. If you know anything of the bloodletting that was the First World War, that was virtually unheard of. "Sullivan" is how it usually went, one telegram at a time, but for some reason they were all spared. They weren't spared of the memories though... Check out 1916 by Motorhead. Lemmy refused to sing it live and when you hear it....gulp.

It always blew my mind that veterans are made up of every race, ethnicity, religious group, sexual orientation, and political party you can think of. Ideally and logically, this means they should have the most support of any singular group known. Yet that is not the case and hasn't been for generations. Even if you don't care about veterans, there is nearly 20 million in the U.S. nowadays, that is a shyt ton of votes, yet again despite all logic saying otherwise they are often ignored. Even more confusing, this isn't exclusive to the U.S.. You look at places like the U.K. and European countries, Canada, and more and you see the exact same thing. If it wasn't so sad and sickening, I would call it a phenomenon because of how bizarre and unlikely it all is.

How is a homeless vet a thing? It stems from a government that loves it soldiers when they're 'active' but once they're no longer active and to the country, useless. The government of the country simply doesn't care, and in my opinion actively works against them. (I.e. the VA never having enough funding to help ALL veterans, and the military budget that gets bigger, yet none of it goes into the Veteran's and their welfare.) Once you're out, the US government doesn't care, and it makes sure that it's lack of care doesn't get spread around. (cause I imagine if it did, they'd be forced to actually deal with it) Not to mention, you don't see any stories in the news about homeless veterans, you hear nothing in the newspapers and nothing in many of the news websites. You can not make people aware of this without bringing it up, and people find out about this sort of thing. The organizations themselves and bands or people like FFDP are the ones to do bring this message out to people, but they can only let a fraction of people know in comparison to "big media" who could let millions or hundreds of millions know.

I'm still an active duty medic going on 14 years with multiple trips. Songs like this hit us all at some point. Its a good thing as long as you have the right state of mind when you analyze the content. We all thank you for your prospective and appreciation for what happens because people don't get it. They can't and we don't want them to, but understanding is what every generation of combat veteran has needed. That's a lost concept now.

The homeless veteran situation has to do more with mental health and the attitude that MEN are disposable. The Veterans Administration Hospital situation has gotten better but it still is not good. So every time I hear people that want government-run healthcare, I tell them to go down to the nearest VA hospital away from DC and asks the veterans there if they had a choice and could afford it would that get personal health insurance instead of used the VA system. Wanna bet how many would take that personal insurance in a heartbeat.

Ok...so here is something that has been on my mind for years. First off,this is not a comment about me specifically,just an observation I have witnessed and experienced first hand. While there are way too many vets that served our country under their own free will(no draft that I'm aware of) come back home after their service and are homeless,PTSD and many other issues. Those are the ones who get recognized for the issues they have going on. Here's my question for ya'...what about that soldier who served but may have gotten kicked out for whatever reason there may have been? They loose their benefits and are offered no kind of help. They struggle with the transition back to civilian life. What are they supposed to do? I made a bad decision while I was in after seeing one of my best friends who I spent my entire military carrier with starting off in bootcamp rolled past me on a gurney no more that 20ft away from me after tragically loosing his life while doing his job. It hit me harder than I knew how to deal with it and I felt lost afterwords. I'm not asking for anyone's forgiveness or pity in the situation because I am dealing with it still to this day in my own way...one is by simply remembering him and the bond we formed. I ask that we recognize other vets who go through similar things who got an OTH or even dishonorable discharge and are going through things like this. Me personaly...I may have made a mistake(over 25 yrs ago I might add) but I still LOVE our military and it's soldiers. Let's change some things up and help them out too...show them some love...

There are 2 parts to this song that I feel like a lot of people miss of their first listen. First, is the God/Devil gender thing. Listening to.... I hear God as the spouse you come home to. They don't recognize you because war has changed you so much. Devil is himself. He feels evil and undeserving of help or compassion. Second, is heaven and hell. Wrong side of heaven... heaven is home. He isn't at home. He left "heaven" to defend it, so he doesn't get to experience it. Righteous side of hell.... hell is war. He's gone to war for what he sees as a righteous cause. He is defending his heaven. To keep it pure innocent and untainted.

Mr. Boyd your comments at the beginning of this video are very much appreciated at least by this veteran. I'm a medically retired veteran though I did my 20. I spent the majority of that in the Infantry. I've been homeless for good portions of my time after Ingot out survived multiple suicide attempts. I've battled drug addiction and have lost my family. I've asked for help at times and been ignored by the VA. And it's nice to hear people who can put politics aside because myself and my brothers have sacrificed so much some gave everything and some need help without the hoops or the often times ineptness of the VA.

Gave you a like because it was a good review. God as a She refers to their wife girlfriend, sister, mother, who doesn't understand the things he has to do. The Devil is who he sees in the mirror and he doesn't understand why is viewed with such distain and loathing for only doing what we asked him to. You looked at the lyrics or something and missed the guy with the beard getting shot in the chest right after he put his buddy in the humv. Another detail you might not have known the significance of was the cop and the guy he was arresting having the same tattoo. They were unit tattoos and had both served in the same unit. If you don't read lips, the black guy at the end was saying "Bill, Bill, its me, Jacoby. You saved my life brother." For something else by them which has a message, try Coming Down, the official video, which is about bullying.

A lot of veterans don't necessarily want to be homeless. They simply don't want to or can't conform to the ever changing society. When a service member deploys they leave their known world and enter hell. To keep their sanity and make it through, they freeze frame the life they left behind. When they return home they expect it to be the same as they left it. Usually it is or at least very close but the problem is the ptsd. While in this hellish situation holding onto this memory of their world back home, it somehow gets locked into their minds. When things start changing over time, good or bad, it goes against that locked in memory of what it should be. That memory is their happy place. The place they deployed to fight for and protect in the first place. Once that place gets taken away it leads to all kinds of different reactions. Mostly depression, anger, escapism, isolation, etc. I experience this at least once a week. At least once. I suddenly feel like walking out the door and living in a tent in the woods in the middle of nowhere. I don't want to see anyone or anything. I want to escape the world and just imagine it the way it was before. That's just one of many many reasons why some veterans are homeless. For some it's a choice. For some its not.

Hey Mr. Boyd! I wanted to say I appreciate your heartfelt words and thoughts on this matter. It's an extremely complicated topic that most cannot comprehend nor relate with. I have lost numerous brothers of mine to both combat and self-infliction and I wasn't even in a combat role personally. The term PTSD gets thrown around a lot nowadays and I don't think most fully comprehend the spectrum of emotions it can produce. There is a large population of combat veterans who either cannot live with what they had to do or see, or the adrenaline is like heroin to them and self-destruct trying to keep the edge. I personally know people who freak out at loud noises, cannot sit with their back to the room, have a hard time walking down the sidewalk with others, will vomit when their brain triggers certain smells, and violently end every close relationship because they don’t feel worthy of love. This video and song are fantastic and many of my fellow veterans get very emotional when we hear it, as it helps shed some light on the growing issue that effects such a large portion of our veterans. I think another relatable video clip is the last half of 'The Hurt Locker' and how he is unable to cope with normal life. As veterans our benefits are constantly on the chopping block by politicians or used as pawns in passing bills. We must remember war is very expensive and we got to pay for the outcomes from it, especially the ones who did all the fighting. Mental health, medical assistance, and help with jobs and housing are the most important issues today. Some of those veterans have significant physical issues with quite a few unable to be seen, like lung, heart, brain issues, cancer, chemical exposure, loss of senses. First and foremost, we need to figure out a way to take care of our own, then figuring out a way to limit all these unnecessary wars and conflicts is next. Educate yourselves on local and state voting. Keep out these people who rules in their own interests.

I served 10yrs in the Army and I appreciate a lot of your views and thank you for your support. Many things can be said about this situation but the comments section isn’t long enough for that. It’s unfortunate in many many ways, especially when it comes to the real lack of help when returning home. Some deal with PTSD better than others, but in my opinion, the ones who suffer the most from PTSD should be taken care of right away because it is hard to hold a job etc when a noise, image, or whatever even just boredom, allows the trauma to take over your mind, and then sometimes, it’s out of your hands and really hard to gain control again. That’s the biggest disappointment in my military career, was watching friends pass away, both physically and mentally, and out government dropped the ball with our vets(70 years ago).
@anonymouscali7966
@anonymouscali7966 3 года назад
And idk how many vets HERE I speak for, and I was lucky, but I saw ALOT of guys lose families over a spouse cheating while they’re away fighting. Most branches preach(not sure if it’s enforced a lot) but infidelity on our(military service members) end isn’t tolerated and can cause ALOT of problems depending on your command. I personally believe that the spouse should be held up to the EXACT standard of that situation because in combat, that’s the LAST thing you need on your mind. Then there’s always those young punks who give those guys shit, like guys do generally, but in that situation you shouldn’t do that. We had an area on the base that we’d take care of those kind of guys if they harassed someone who had something happen at home. It takes people out of focus which can cost them or someone else their lives, the wife cheats, walks away with everything the serviceman worked for and courts handle it as if it’s a joke and wife usually gets whatever because a serviceman can “afford” it. Haha, as an E6(SSG), I KNOW most CANNOT afford a lot of things. Most serviceman, unless deployed a few times or in debt with car payments, house, credit cards etc. It’s a joke and a rigged game. Has been since for 70+years. We are just a number in the military, whatever happens, happens. Let a Presidents or ALL of the govt officials kids go do what we did, then I BET ALOT of regulations will change

Gone Away I see has been mentioned, Far From Home is another great one. I'm a veteran who struggles From survivors guilt and all these songs hit home. I would like to point out how 4 people all came home suffering and dealt with it/affected by it in different ways. I did great at first then took a sudden downhill dive. Drinking, drugs, gambling. Lost vehicles, guns, toys, close relationships. Almost lost my house. I'm blessed with a strong wife who knows I came back different and has managed to stick with me. I left my house one day with every intention of just giving up and checking out. Luckily I wasn't able to go through with it. When I left my mind was made up. You know these commercials they have to donate for the veterans that come home at it got injured lost all my leg and ass in the public to donate which is cool we should donate but our taxes and government should support these people why they asking for us to help these Fallen Soldiers through therapy and all that forget the name of the organization but it's on TV all the time asking the donate money for the veterans the VA was supposed to take care of that these people don't get took care of they do not want to say y'all come back now to the service is a lot of them pushed to the side they don't help them I know several people was in the military I used to take to the VA and they would turn them away send them to a regular Hospital try to get help somewhere else and I'm confused over that I just don't understand that or government don't take care of our veterans our taxes does the VA Hospital their send them to a regular Hospital

another couple of songs of theirs I would recomend is Far From Home, an emotional title, as well as Sham Pain, which is a song about how everyone only sees the perks of being a rockstar. Battleborn is another great one of theirs.
