Nice video, I just got the smaller version to attach to my roof rack, hang over my tailgate and be able to work in the rain whilst onsite.

I used T- bolts to install my awning... 👍 Just slide through the top roof rail...

Hi Sam! Thanks for the video! Now I roughly understand what I will get and how easy it is to setup. I was thinking on buying a pair of these for each side though, you know cause sometimes one side may not be available if you are in a forest or etc and cause it will look more professional if these are installed on both sides. My rig is also a smaller vehicle like your Cooper❤. Who needs a large truck, right?😂 The problem with my setup is that I have a rooftop tent that has entrances on both sides. With one awning on the side it would be no problem, but for reasons I mentioned before I want to install these on both sides of the vehicle. That makes it impossible to enter the rooftop tent if the awning is unfolded and secured in the way you showed here (also, I assume with some additional brackets you could secure them without doing permanent holes in your roof bars?). My idea then was to bolt the awning directly to the tents upper part. That way it is possible to enter the tent, the awning is going to be higher up in the air as well as it is going to have a slope which will help in chanelling water away. And I can also place an RV lamp under it so I can have light no matter if the awning is unfolded or not. My concerns are about the safety of securing the awning that way. The rooftop tent has an aluminium frame which holds an around 2mm thick PVC outer shell which is riveted to the aluminium by 4 big aluminium rivets. It's total weight is 53 kg. Just by the feeling I could say that the tent should hold those 7kg on each side and the folding mechanism should handle it too no problem. My inner enginner says that if I also use 4 custom brackets instead of 2 and add another outer aluminium frame to which these brackets would bolt to (essentially spreading the weight that the shell has to hold), then the whole setup is very safe. What would you say? Do these awnings actually feel heavy or they just look heavy😂 Also I see that now you only had them for 2 months, but maybe you already had a chance to use them? How did it go? Some other people said even considering their budget-friendly cost it is not worth it as the bolts that hold the awning poles will rust very easily, the poles are very lightweight and the assembly is very hard if you don't have them assembled in the package already. I see those parts as replaceables, so that should not be a problem? What is your experience so far?

@marks9127 thanks for your comments. Let me start by saying, the mounting of the car awning is designed to be mounted to the rigid roof cross rails securely mounted to the very securely mounted roof rails of the vehicle. Most cases, roof rails are factory installed. If you bypass this securely mounted system, you are going outside the design of the awning performing as designed. In other words, I would only try it with caution and be concerned with wind that could cause damage to the top tent you mentioned. Sounds like a good option for a solution to the issues you describe. Be careful, observe, be ready to take action if things don’t look right. Good luck!

Very nice video and well put together! Just curious would I need the cross bars or can it be attached right to the side rails? I have a mk2 Citroen berlingo

@jordansnow8656 the answer to your question is no, do not mount awning directly to side rails. The cross rails give a strong stable place to mount the awning. The cross rails are not very expensive and they also give you a place to mount things on top of your car for camping. The side rails are not designed to hang weight from the side as you would have to do with the awning.
