This can be a Do It Yourself project, you would have to buy all the materials of course, but I built this system with a kit I got from Vevor. In this video I show you how to put the kit together, and then set it up with Celebrity tomato plants. Below are links for the products shown in this video:

They don't need instructions when they have you. You did an excellent job of demonstrating the system construction.

I just got mine today. The blue tube is open at the top, and held in place with a clip. No trimming needed. And it includes little red ball floats that go in each tube such that you can more easily read the water level.

While I do not have this system (yet), it certainly explained the order of how I needed to set up my air hose>check valve>airhose>Tsplitters>airhoses>airstones - Thank you so much for your explanation.

I bought that same system back in Feb. Back then it was only $150. I was considering buying another, but when I went back and looked at the ad it had went up $20. It was a little irritating to have to pay $20 more for something I had just purchased, so I decided to think about it. I looked at the ad like 2 or 3 days later, and it had then went up to $180. I now see it's back down to $161 ($160.99). I still may get another one, as the system does work great. Of course, it's little more than buckets with water in them. Buying the complete system is much better than having to get all of the individual components to build an _identical_ system yourself, I believe. Also, as you touched on, when considering the prices of other similar systems, I think it's worth the money. It was a while before I had time to get everything going, but I set mine up in a 4 x 4 grow tent, and the system fits and works great. There's not much extra room with the pump also in the tent, but there's enough. I installed an elastic mesh trellis from the floor (edge) of the tent to the middle bar of the ceiling, and an oscillating fan, and I now have a cucumber plant going, a bush bean, a tomato (maybe 2, can't remember right now), a green pepper, 2 or 3 hot peppers, and I forget what else. I can't imagine the plants growing any better. I started everything from seed, in rockwool, and in the buckets. I did make sure to keep the rockwool wet until the roots touched the water in the buckets, of course. Lastly, just for future reference, as I've seen other companies do it too, but in Vevor's Amazon ad, on the images at the top, if you scroll through, one of the images (2nd. I believe) is actually a tutorial video that shows how to setup the system. It obviously won't do you -much- any good now, however. *lol* Good job on the setup, BTW. 👍 You actually did better than I did, and I had the video! 😆 I somehow managed to cut one of the blue pipes just a little too short and had a slight leak (just drops), but it was easily resolved. Thanks for the video. I love watching all of your grows/experiments/comparisons, etc.

It sounds like you have a whole farm in your 4x4 tent! Wow! Putting the kit together was really pretty easy, and I like putting stuff together, so that was fun. Thanks for the comment, I appreciate it!

Hey great video. I would have been overwhelmed by Vevor’s near useless instruction page. You should know that they have updated their system. The air pump has 4 ports, so have eliminated the plastic splitter. Also, they have done away with the top elbow part on the water level tubes. The tube is uncovered and there are now clamps and a red ball to show the level.

@NS-fo6dq 5 месяцев назад
The system I received last week still has the splitter. Strange!

Just some advice from someone that has seen it happen, put your check valve at the top of your bucket. That way if your air line becomes damaged or happens to pop off then you are still protected but placing them close to the pump only helps in a power/pump failure

Thanks a lot for the excellent video!! How often do you run your air pump on a timer?
@truckertalknow
@truckertalknow 11 месяцев назад
Tip.....check valves can go anywhere in the line. And if the air pump is located higher than the buckets (shelf etc) than you don't need to use check valves. Same as a fish tank.

A tip for putting together the tubing, if you lubricate the nipples before inserting into the tubing they will slide right in, lubrication as in saliva.

Are the red balls supposed to stay in the water check tube? It rolls right out into the bucket.

forgive me as i havent finished the video yet so you might have awnsered this, but this system seems pretty nice, i was reading that with hydroponics its important to change the water, so i was looking for a system that had that ability, i know this system has drain valves, but for indoor use i dont want to drain the water on the floor, although i can if its just a little water. Or do i not need to drain the water ever as the plants suck up the water?

what are your plants for trellising the tomatoes?
@TikkiOOO
@TikkiOOO Год назад
Hi The Referee, great question. These tomato plants are semi determinate so I'm going to prune and keep them tidy, but I bought some bamboo sticks, 6 ft tall, and will rig something up if they need it. There's a hole in the lid for adding water or nutrients, so maybe I can put a stick/pole in there, but I'm not sure yet. I will keep you updated with another video mid summer so you'll be able to see the progress. Hopefully it is a successful grow...either way, I will post the results. Thanks for the question!

What's your plan to keep rain water out of the system and diluting your solution?
@TikkiOOO
@TikkiOOO Год назад
Hello Joe, great question. I've never grown hydroponically outdoors, so let's see as it goes. If there is a storm coming, maybe I can pull the buckets back towards the house so they are under the awning for protection. Once they get larger then I don't know that much of the rain will be able to get into the bucket with the lid and the plant covering it....this is a learn as I grow project. I'll post updates and let's hope for the best!
@JoeSylve
@JoeSylve Год назад
@@TikkiOOO Thanks! I've been considering a similar setup and have been thinking that maybe something as simple as wrapping the lid and the base of the plants with aluminum foil. That should be flexible enough to expand as the stems grow but hopefully would help keep most of the rainwater out. I'm unsure if the light reflecting from the bottom of the plants would be a good or bad thing, though.

Do you need to use a water chiller?
@TikkiOOO
@TikkiOOO Год назад
It happens to be a very cool May day here (62 F), so I'm thinking a water heater is more appropriate! Perhaps if you live in a hot climate then black is not a good color, maybe wrap the outside with something reflective, or paint with a lighter color to reflect the light? So far the plants seem happy every morning when I go out and talk to them! The nights have dipped down into the 40's so I was a bit concerned, but they are weathering fine. Thanks for the question!
