Yup, love it! Float the kayak off and back on like a boat trailer! Makes launch and recovery easier!

Glad you shared that idea with me. Truly makes it easier!

Cool. I bet I could attach a little hitch and use my lawn tractor to pull it down to the water where I live.

I have seen another video where someone adds a hitch attachment an pulls there kayak down to a boat ramp

Hey Yaknfish! Mega thanks for the great vid! I just ordered one for my 9' aluminum Rib! After i figure the angle that the boat supports need to be at I am going to shorten the uprights a bunch so the boat sits way lower on the dolly and floats sooner so i dont have to wade! Yours looks too high at the stock height! Ride ride ride!

Thanks for watching, that sounds like a good idea 💡. There's so much customization that can be done to these Dolly's if you're handy!

I wish they'd install the wheel in the midsection to balance the weight a little. This design lets you pick the entire wieght of the kayak.

what would the possibility be of leaving on the dolly and just slide the entire thing unto the pickup bed. Then strap it all down? Would that be feasible?

I would say depending on the weight of your kayak, that would depend. For example my old town weighs close to about a hundred plus pounds so that might be awkward trying to put in my truck. I also just dropped another video recently on a tog fishing trip and did a release of my kayak directly from the bed of my truck into the water without using the dolly and that went very smooth. So you could try that and just use the dolly to retrieve.

Hey there thank you so much for making this video! 1) what length kayak do you have? 2) are there any changes/mods you recommend from the start like using cotter pins versus bolts? 3) there seems to be a $600 one that Greg Blanchard uses (eeeek) then this one, and then I found another that seems to be a blend of the two at $260…any regrets about the design of what you bought? Im trying to decide if the more expensive options having the strap between the wheels is a big deal or not

So the kayak I use is 10-1/2 feet. Oldtown sportsman pdl 106. The pins vs bolts was a great switch in my opinion. Quicker to disconnect. I may possibly add some weight to the rear axle so it sinks versus float when trying to retrieve. Also the front pads, I may put a spacer on each pad to make better contact with the kayak. I have learned if your kayak is pretty heavy, you don't need to strap it on if balanced properly. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for the quick response! I think I’ll snag one of those and hit up harbor freight for rubber solid wheels that sink…I’d like to figure out a way to add a hitch maybe. I’d get a little worried about the angle so the yak doesn’t slide out…I mean of course without strapping it into the dolly…I’d say my kayak is well over 200lbs. Maybe closer to 220-240 with the batteries, motor etc! But any but helps to make it more convenient in my book! Even if the ramp is close to the lot

What size pins did you use for the quick assembly?
@_yaknfish
@_yaknfish 11 месяцев назад
I don't remember exactly, but I took one from the dolly to Home Depot and was able to find something similar. When I got home, I had to slightly enlarge the holes, so maybe buy pins that are a smaller diameter, so drilling will be required. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.

where did you get the extra bolt pin lock?

Your local hardware store should have them like Home Depot

Since weight is at the back, wouldn't it be better to turn the Kayak around, I heard you did have it the other way before but what was the problem??? also might consider adding a weight at rear of dolly to make it sink, then you would not have to get in water.. Your thoughts??
@_yaknfish
@_yaknfish Год назад
It works well both ways. I flip mine backwards because I get nervous that I'm going to damage my transducer which is mounted in the middle of my kayak. I had also thought about putting some weights on the rear axle just to sink it. I'm going to try that this Spring and see how it works. Thanks for the comment thanks for watching

Is it aluminum? How would it do in saltwater?
@_yaknfish
@_yaknfish 6 месяцев назад
So it is not aluminum. However it has been painted from the manufacturer. I have used it in title order as well as salt water. My suggestion would be if you do use it immediately after you are done make sure you clean it off with soapy water. And maybe even apply WD-40 to the wheels and bearings, nuts and bolts.

Awesome video! do you think this would be good on a 12 ft kayak?

Thanks for watching. It will work on a 12ft. My buddy has the same style kayak as me except his is 12 foot. Here is a link to his video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BW2AEADwDUc.html

How much does your kayak rig weigh, do you know?
@_yaknfish
@_yaknfish 11 месяцев назад
I'm not certain but if I had to guess I'd say about 150-175 lbs. Without me in it. That's fully loaded with my trolling motor and I have two lithium ion batteries.

Do you have to strap it down? I just ordered one of these and I have the 12 ft version of your kayak.
@_yaknfish
@_yaknfish Год назад
I do not have to strap mine down as long as you have it balanced out. You don't have to be worried about it sliding off or tipping.

Thanks for sharing, you get any fish on that day? New sub also in the Maryland area.

We did. We fished out of the Ocean City Fisherman's Marina and caught a bunch of small just under the limit tog. My buddy Matt had a great day. He caught a couple Sheepshead and also landed his first octopus which was pretty crazy. His RU-vid channel is travelnfish. He posted a video of that fishing trip. I will eventually get around to doing one from that day, LOL. Thanks for the subscription
