That looks like a great budget VFD, I do like Vevor products. This was a great review, lots of great information for someone like me who has not used a VFD before, thank you very much. Count me out of the giveaway due to the shipping
Hi Dean, I'm watching your video on my lunch break :) You have the same type of inverter as me, which I use for the Colchester Bantam, my support up to 4 kW, that's the size I bought and the motor of my lathe is 2 .5kW; I drive my inverter just like you do, with the switches at low voltage, using the green terminal block and following the diagrams in the booklet; my only complaint is the fan noise, there is a video by Mark Presling that shows how to eliminate that noise but in that case the modification is not within my reach, practically the inverter makes more noise than the lathe !! haha!! Ciao Dean see you soon!!! (P.S I'm doing tests with a friend with Streamyard, in the meantime I'm getting ready...)
Great review and walkthrough, Dean. I get the sneaking suspicion you've done some work with these in the past 😉. We have a servo driven mill at work that has a momentary button to reverse the spindle when power tapping. Comes in handy if you've got lots of holes to tap. My mill has that annoying E-stop too. Unfortunately you'd need to put in contactors (relays) and momentary switches for your fwd/rev switch/es, not terribly difficult but you would have to throw a couple hundred bucks at it. I guess you can't put a price on safety ...🤣. Anyways, great vid! Thanks!
Great information in here! I've never been much for using VFD on vintage equipment, but I have been wanting to build a 2x72 belt grinder and I know I will need one for that. Something like this would work for starters at least.
I purchased a Vevo 5HP drive but it didn't look quite like yours. When I installed it in my CNC mill, it had so much electrical noise that it killed all the electronics on the machine. The output wiring was installed in a separate shielded conduit. Somehow the noise got onto the input wires.
Dean when you are holidaying in Brisbane next I have a small job for you ( king of the Squiggily lines ) use to buy tools from America now the is freight more than item . Kit from down under
Vevor will slap their name on anything they can! Looks like every other cheap chinese VFD I have. Why can't they put some proper sized terminals on these for the line and motor??? With that said, the 4 I own have been bullet proof! My largest is running a huge 7hp motor. Cheap as chips, but the instructions kinda suck
