This was a great product . . . EIGHT YEARS AGO!! Unfortunately Roland has gone to sleep when it comes to updating a unit like this and Line 6 is eating their lunch. I have found the GK pickup tracks better than the Variax which is why I still play my Roland ready Strat into a GP 10 then into a POD HD 500x. I wish like hell that Roland would get off their dead ass and put out a newer version of this as it would slay every other modeler out there. But . . . .

They did - a junior version, the Boss GP-10 but the VG-99 is still kind in terms of features/permutations. Still waiting on a sequel.

Roland has never been good at amp models to my ear. Their effects are great though. I have a POD HD500X and I'm using a Fishman Triple Play for MIDI pickup. Works great for me. The Roland pickup is better than the Fishman, but it racks well enough for at home.
