My mom died 2 days before my 12th birthday on June 8 1986. She was just 35. It was devastating as a child. Somehow someway not long before, I was introduced to Billy. My older brothers friend want to trade his Billy Joel greatest hit volume 1 and 2 for my Huey Lewis cassette. And me thinking hell yea!! I trade 1 and get 2!! Awesome!!! as I began to listen I realized my life was changed forever. I was raised with 3 other siblings by an angry Vietnam vet/alcoholic police officer that lost the love of his life at such a young age. Maybe that’s why I became a punching bag. I’m ok with that now butI’m sure some of the messed up parts are due to my messed up upbringing but thru all the ups and downs there’s one thing that’s been a constant. That’s BILLLY JOEL. I’ve seen him live 30 times. All over the US and internationally as well. I’m looking forward to 31. Thanks Billy. I love you William Martin Joel
I'm so pleased he's such a good inspiration to ypu ... Seeing this for the first time ... I've seen him many times, yet the words here are very meaningful ... Amazing you were able to express feeling ... Suggestion mail him your thoughts
Billy Joel: vocals and piano Liberty DeVitto: drums Mark Rivera: saxophones, percussion, guitars, vocals Crystal Taliefero: percussion, saxophones, guitar and vocals David Rosenthal: keyboards and vocals Tommy Byrnes: guitars and vocals David Santos: bass guitar
I am so impressed by how not annoying the people in the crowd are. So nice not hearing them say I love you so much. Just straight to the point asking questions.
when StoryTellers was new and on the Television years ag i really loved the Format and tried to watch every episode of course. i grew up liking Billy Joel’s music as a whole but this Story Teller was my favorite a part of it for me is that Billy Joel’s music transports me to the l970s which for me was a great time as a boy and then teenager without any real worries or concerns that of course turned into being a Man with the normal stuff of being a Man , Relationshps ,Marraige ,Father hood ,man that’s responsibility changes to a whole new level to me his stories are also hysterical
VH1 and MTV and rival MuchMusic(Fuse) died. We need a new music based channel. Axs is ok. MTV Classic is videos and some biographies or stuff but no longer like Palladia. Palladia had live concerts and was more into the 60s to 90s.
BEAUTIFUL MUSIC AND A REAL GUY LIKE BILLY JOEL WHO SING'S FROM HIS HEART,AND INTERTAINS MILLIONS,AND HIS GUYS ARE EXCELLENT AND I COULD LISTEN FOR HOURS.😎💘
He has and always wil motivate me through all my life to help people through his music, soul and uplifting sarcasm Ty William Martin Joel for helping me to help myself!
4:38 River of Dreams 9:44 Movin Out (Incomplete) 13:39 Allentown 25:33 Honest (with David Krout) 29:12 Scenes from an Italian Restaurant 37:58 I Go to Extremes
Billy Joel is above Elton john as he can write his own songs where as Elton hasn't wrote a song in his life that people want to listen or sing along with
I wonder what David Kraut is doing today - unexpectedly *singing* Honesty with Billy Joel (25 min in)?! David Kraut - where are you, tell me about this!
A H ACTUALLY, David Kraut is a pretty successful County Artist today! I haven't spoken to Him in about 5 Years, but the last time I did, He told Me, & His stuff is PRETTY DAMN good! Hey, anyone that has ANYTHING to say about Him, then I'd like to see what they can do, & if they can do better, which I HIGHLY DOUBT! He at least had the stones to ask Billy "ON NATIONAL TELEVISION" YET, if He could play with Him, & as NOT ONLY a Pro-Musician Myself, but a Billy Joel Tribute artist whom has performed numerous times with many different Members of Billy Joel's Touring Band {PAST, & PRESENT}, & His current Rhythm Guitarist Mike Delguidice is a very good Friend of Mine, & has been for around 20 Years now! SO, check out David's Music, & You might JUST be pleasantly surprised! Cheers🎹🇦🇲🎷
Actually it sounded sloppy. The timing when they came in at the beginning with the crowd noise sounds off from what the record does and the guy drumming real fast on the bongos or whatever seem like he was struggling to keep up. This was more like a rehearsal and kind of a sloppy one. Lots of mistakes all over the place. Definitely heard some mistakes on piano during scenes from an Italian restaurant song and he tried to cover it by shifting the way he plays it after the mistake happened almost like I meant to do that but he didn't. Don't get me wrong I'm a huge Billy Joel fan and it's kind of frustrating he didn't do the full versions of a lot of the songs on here but as he said they were looking at it more like a rehearsal because they were about to prepare to go tour again than anything. You can tell it sounded like a rehearsal too. There were a lot of small mistakes I noticed. One song the bass player started off incorrectly as well and you literally hear Billy Joel say B flat as if he's reminding the guy how to play it correctly. I'm happy to hear any Billy Joel. He's one of the best singer-songwriters of all time and I'm a big fan but this wasn't exactly the best performance.
Knew Billy Joel from “We Didn’t Start the Fire” and “I Go to Extremes”, but this was my introduction to “Allentown” and “Scenes From an Italian Restaurant”. Back when VH1 actually cared about music, of course.
A fan since “Piano Man”, fanatic since “ Say Good bye to Hollywood”. Thanks for this upload. Musical genius lyrics and music! I admire Elton though for fitting beautiful melodies to someone else’s poems.
I love you for your gratitude sharing your gift with us and I think you are your best friend and you are your worst angriest enemy in your life . I wish I knew what pissed you off to channel into great music you blessed individual.....oh yeah I gotta shower and I'm going through life loss changes
Sir Elton John and the "Blue Blood" Billy Joel are the soundtrack of my entire life since long, long time ago. Blessings to them cos'they're still standing after all this time. Billy is fantastic!
Wtf is wrong with this audience??? There is ZERO emotion. We’re they told not to react? Could they not hear the music? It’s so strange. I would’ve been so excited to witness this moment. I mean there are shots where the audience isn’t even watching. Wtf is going on???!!!!
Most of my fellow white people generally don't know how to move to music. That's changed a little now since smart phones and social media, white folks seem to have learned how to move and dance better. Lol
His band was so much better with Liberty. His limbs and head were always flying everywhere, but he was always in the pocket. His drums always sound amazing.
Billy Joel should have put out more albums. At least announce its his final album and make a 2 set CD. In 97 sounded like he burned out of doing albums. His instrumental music was the basis for his real final album. All classical.
Okay this is an absolutely perfect example as to why Artists don’t need press conferences. Do either something like this, do a live stream like Toto or do a small venue and not a greatest hits show. Billy Did That In 2013 At The Paramount Theater In Huntington Long Island. I have been to several shows of Billy’s where he’s done a much more stripped down performance where it wasn’t all the crazy lights and video and he’s great
Billy's a living legend for his prolific songwriting and keyboard prowess, but don't sleep on the man's impressive vocal range. Just try and hit all the high notes in his songs ... it ain't easy.
@@tomdeakin2881 Thanks, I'm going to have to check out more of him - what a great player, what a band, and what an amazing writer, singer, performer in Billy Joel! This blew me away.
And your point is? It's his songs. He states at the beginning that this is like a practice session, since they hadn't played together in a while. I've got news for you. Real musicians make mistakes. It's what makes music so special. The imperfections.
