Many promo films were made in the 50's/60's, to encourage post-war interest in air travel.....this one stands out as one of the best; you don't need to understand German to appreciate it. Production values are excellent with great air-to-air shots of the best prop airliner ever made....oh to be a passenger back then!

I remember flying in a TWA Constellation as a kid in the 50s. It was a comfortable plane and I remember the seats were so comfortable. We flew over the Grand Canyon and the pilot circled a few time so we could get a good view. Shortly after, they stopped doing this because of a collision between two airliners. I remember friendly service. Now, they pack you in like sardines and our major airplane manufacturer cuts corners to save money and allowed 346 people to die in interest of profit. Everything I have read about Lufthansa is this airline is high quality, efficient and very safe. You got what you paid for there.

Drang da gerade angenehmer Flug an mein Ohr ? Gut 15 Stunden nach New York mit Zwischenlandung in Gander. TOLL ! Reiseflughöhe 4.100 Meter, also genau dort wo die meisten Turbulenzen stattfinden. As time goes by.

Adding my voice to the choir of 'ah, the good old days' when flying was an event! You dressed, you had manners, you knew how to act in public. I'm glad they did away with smoking on planes as it never made any sense to have two sections. I actually was a smoker when they had this go into effect. Now you can barely get your suitcase on a plane and have it arrive at the same destination. People are rude, seats are thin and uncomfortable and the crew is all stressed out.

It was a distance of 510km, and she remembers this trip taking 3 full days... 1895, a time where the first cars came up on the market, but only the richest of the rich could afford one... You are absolutely right! I was a flight attendant with Lufthansa from 1982 - 2015 and had the honor to meet their former flight attendant No. 1, Mrs. Kathke. She joined Lufthansa in 1955 and later changed to flight attendant training dept. I met her during my initial training and she was truly a Grande Dame of aviation and was highly respected by the entire company. She represented all the glamour aviation was like in that movie, as you said, normal people with good manners, values and respect. Unfortunately she passed away many years ago, and with her, all the simple things and different times were gone, too. It was just like on this video. On the down side, it was noisy, everyone smoked and the cabins weren’t well pressurised. Many people vomited so ‘sick bags’ were in every seat pocket. I remember one flight where were all passengers started to get pains in the ears. Turned out the rear door wasn’t properly closed. Answer - the plane descended and carried on the journey at a lower altitude. Madness!

Ironically, at the time this film was made, Lufthansa couldn't fly in or out of Berlin. That was because West Berlin was located within East Germany, which only allowed airlines of the 4 countries that had occupied their portion of the city at the end of World War II to use the airport.

Very true and certainly compared with UK, but the Germans were given much encouragement and finance from USA and above all worked so hard for their deserved post war success at this time.
@michduncg
@michduncg 2 года назад
@@SDD3204 the U.K. also received finance from the USA under the Marshall Plan after WWII. I think the difference is that West Germany only had one way to go - onward and upwards without looking back. People in the U.K. however continue to bang on about winning WWII (usually overlooking the fact we were part of the Allied Forces which won together)
@SDD3204
@SDD3204 2 года назад
@@michduncg It seems I fell for the myth that UK did not get Marshall Plan Aid after the war, and that such MP aid was purely aimed at European countries in danger of becoming Communist, through their austerity. UK was not only psychologically burdened with looking backwards but with unrealisable feelings of current post war responsiblilities for the Empire and the desire to maintain their world prestige. UK was bankrupt and yet burdened with responsibilities and massive wartime loans from USA to pay back too. The thread of a nuclear attack from the east was also very high in our priorities too and I believe 50% of UK's rather meagre GDP was devoted to defence for many years too. Then there was the imementation of The Beveridge Plan, NHS and Welfare post war too. I certainly found the contrast in wealth and appearances between UK and WG in 1963 quite extraordinary as a 7 year old. IMHO UK did not catch up post-war until firmly in EEC/EU under Tony Blair gd&r...
@ruhri0411
@ruhri0411 Год назад
By 1955, West Germany had already overtaken the UK in terms of GDP. The Marshall Plan played a rather small role in this, however, and it was only loans that had to be repaid. The UK received the funds of the Marshall Plan as a gift from the USA. A big problem for the UK was that after WW2 it was no longer possible to exploit the colonies to the same extent as before.

@watchhans
@watchhans 4 года назад
Rein rechtlich also ´ne Kölsche Firma.
