In this video, I'm taking AudioKit's new VHS Synth for a spin. I'm a sucker for any synth app that'll give me a good Juno patch. This app is a collaboration between Brian Funk and AudioKit. I could go on, but I basically said everything in the video. Why are you reading this instead of watching the video, or are you watching while reading? If so, nicely done!

I'm in love with this app. It's all the sounds I spent ages searching for back when I was making lots of music a couple years ago (now a dad so music is on hold). This means I can play on my iPad in the living room at night and be creative again ❤

Thanks for watching, Will! Yeah, Brian is an amazing sound designer and AudioKit did a great job putting it all together. They also released SAGA Synth recently if you are into Mega Drive stuff. It was a real nostalgia trip for me.

That Juno pad has quite an oberheim sound love it , the orchestra hit sounds like the fairlight ,lovin the prophet too

I was Sold when you selected FM strings and the Presets following that one , you’ve demo’d it a lot better than some others with the chords you’re playing . I use some plugins on my Logic Setup for that 80s AOR /Rock/blockbuster action film/ smooth sounds & im looking to use my Phone as a synth module with a keyboard that will fit in a backpack so I can go portable with my electric guitar , loop pedal and midi controller

Thanks for checking out the video! For the looping stuff check out Loopy Pro. I've seen Sound Test Room create some amazing Live Loops with it, and he shared a great video on how he set it all up.

vhs synth is not turning up in my garageband inter-app selection, is there a way to fix this?

the app does not have arpeggio which is a big minus to me

If you use it as an AUv3 in GarageBand or other AUv3 host applications you could use the host's arpeggiator but that's just as a workaround. I think their only app with an arpeggiator currently is Synth One.

I don't think there is a built-in recording option in VHS Synth, but the app is an AUv3 so you can load it as an instrument inside of a mobile DAW and record it there. The best free mobile DAW to start with is GarageBand. Another option could be to do a screen recording VHS Synth on your device, export it to your computer, and then export audio only in QuickTime.

@@TheLunarnotes I don't think it supports inter app audio but it can be loaded as an AUv3. On the instrument selection screen choose Audio Unit Extensions instead of Inter-App Audio.
