I've been struggling with depression myself and realizing that being related to someone doesn't mean anything. It's all a social construct. The bonds are what truly make family and I've learned that whether or not someone is related to you they are not entitled to your love. Life is about striving to make a positive impact on the world while still remaining positive/happy yourself. So you have to be kinda selfish to be a good selfless person in this world. I'm rambling but letting your emotions out rather than bottling them in is a great way of releasing the burden off of yourself as it can grow to be unbearable.
