I'm from Argentina. Evita, as we call her, had a huge impact on the Argentinian society. Even today, after more than 60 years after her death her public image is worshiped by many people, specially her political party. In the mid 1970's Andrew Lloyd Webber, one of the author of this opera-rock, visited Buenos Aires and heard about Evita, he was so fascinated that he decided to write her story. After the premiere of this opera-rock Evita's image became global, but after the movie she's definitely universal. Madonna did such a stunning job!! Argentina loves Madonna, she has a special bond with us. Long live the one and only Queen!! Her Madgesty 👑❤️

María Eva "Evita" Duarte was the First Lady of Argentina from 1946-1952, playing a major role in her husband Juan Perón's rise to power and eventual Presidential election. She was revered by the lower classes, helping to enact a number of reforms and policies to their benefit, while stoking controversy and making enemies among traditional elite society. She also helped get the women’s suffrage law passed in her country. She died of cervical cancer in 1952 at age 33. Google her and literally hundreds of stories will come up. Definitely interesting and worth it, if you enjoy political history. If nothing else, at least see the movie!

I remember being in Argentina, specifically Buenos Aires years ago (I quit my job of 12 years to go travel) and I stood underneath this exact balcony where Eva Peron stood, and where Madonna then stood decades later to film this incredible, historical scene. Because I understood the importance of Eva Peron, the importance of that balcony, that public area and that historical moment, I felt slightly overwhelmed being there but when I looked up at the balcony, this song played in my head and time stood still. It's a moment I'll cherish and carry with me forever. Being able to visit such an incredible country (and city), visiting the Evita museum and seeing the tombstone of Eva Peron in real life is something that I'll truly never forget. Thanks for this reaction

Madonna lobbied to star in this movie for years and finally got her chance. She felt there were many similarities between her and Eva Peron. Eva was beloved and died at the age of 33. She was loved and hated at the same time in Argentina. So Madonna and her definitely had those extreme reactions in common. This theatrical performance was a high point for Madonna, taking intense vocal lessons to live up to the soundtrack demands. She was flawless and you should listen to more of the Evita soundtrack.

She sung the whole movie, portraying Eva Peron, it's her best role! Everything is sung as a conversation, first it's odd, but you get into it and it's wonderful. I mean, she won a golden globe for best actress. She should have won an oscar for it. 'You must love me' is especially written for her, because the musical already existed. The final of this movie is so sad and so well done, you can't imagine.

I remember the commotion that there was when Madonna made the film, she who is so professional took the trouble to know everything she could about Eva Perón to interpret her role as best she could, she even interviewed people who had known Eva in life . His performance continues to excite me. Greetings from Buenos Aires, Argentina :

So wonderful to watch your reaction to the scene from the movie Evita! Is such an incredible film and I remember going to the premiere in Seattle on January 1st, 1997 with all my friends and we were so amazed. She is incredible in it and I think you will really enjoy it. She also want a Golden Globe for this role! I usually watch it every December around the time it came out in theaters in 1996 :-) big hugs!

This is from the musical EVITA from 1996 that gave Madonna a Golden Globe as Best Actress. There is a dance remix for this song that was a huge Latin Dance Hit back in 1996/1997 - Madonna re-recorded the vocals for the Miami Remix - lots of people prefer that version to the original and in some countries the remix version was even A-side of the single and the one played at the radio (like Portugal, Spain or France). Here is the link for the remix video from the single edit version (that was also played at MTV back then) in case you want to listen to it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zgwMpJs-dCA.html I much prefer the big version with aditional amazing Spanish-like instrumental. She even did Spanenglish versions (where the chorus is in Spanish): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hfuhPQRELNE.html

You should look up a documentary of "Eva Perone".. In a way she and Madonna have a lot of things in common. Bring in the public eye and both are considered a saint by some, and a devil by others. But watch a documentary about "Eva" and then watch the movie inspired by her life.. I think it will give you more context into the movie, "Eva's" life, and the meaning of the movie.

She's a Woman, She's Old, She's Crazy, She has botox, She can't sing, She doesn't play the instruments....The haters will always find anything to dismiss her instead of focus on the genius she is and that's because they dont feel comfortable with anyone who still stands exactly because she was the first woman to be different from others in the music industry by free expressing her point of views and personality without caring for approval of others, the first to stay "old" and still want to work and create art, that's why she is always paying a price, because she is PIONEER, INOVATIVE, UNIQUE, FIGHT LABELS, PUSHING BUTTONS. For a man to be like that was always normal on the music industry but she is a woman, she should be quiet on her place and not to be interventive and express her opinions and above all never, never try to be on a place that was always and only reserved for men and objectifying men like they did objectifying woman on their music videos since then, how dare you Madonna? Men always liked to be on command and that's why they are afraid of her...That's the reason why she is a LIVING LEGEND, A MYTH, AN ICON, THE ONLY LIVING SUPERSTAR WHICH STILL REMAINS, and was named the QUEEN (of pop). Come on guys give her a break and let her continue her artistic and genius career while she is still alive, one day when she won't be with us people will notice her importance in history, but I guess it is always like that, you must lost someone important to know his real VALUE. That's why I'm always thinking how fortunate we are to have the privilege every single day to have her still among with us while she is ALIVE AND KICKING. For me Madonna is the definition of WOMAN and will always be until I die. Sometimes I think as a Madonna huge fan she really don't have the best voice in the world comparing with other singers nor is the best dancer nor is the best this or the best that and for me this is even more the reason why she is my favourite artist of all time, because with all this "limitations" she remains above other great artists on Time because she has PERSONALITY, CHARISMA, STYLE, INTELEGENCY and applies that on her artistic path and surpasses herself constantly, from others we can only say: "ok great voice this artist have, this singer is so pretty and sexy,..." we only appreciate them by their technical and physical skills, but with Madonna is different we appreciate her by some of this same skills but as WHOLE, as a PERSONALITY. Everytime she bring us a new record or concert she impregnate her unique strong sincere personality on it remaining coherent with her beliefs and convictions and that's why think people still follow and respect her. She's BEATIFUL on her own way and I am not only speaking physically which she was of course more when she was younger but she is even more beautiful as time goes by because beauty is not only what you see outside but what you perception the others give you from inside and on this Madonna is the most beatiful person in the world and History because she is such a beatiful human being inside. For any reason singers like Whitney, Mariah, Janet, Britney, Beyonce, Rihanna that stood for her great voices or style/beauty comparing to Madonna never accomplished what Madonna is and done because she has that "It" factor, a "je ne sais quoi", a MAGIC MYSTERY that no one can explain but that's why she is a MYTHICAL (LIVING) LEGEND in HISTORY. Many things have been said about this woman in the past and will always continue in the present and future because we want to explain and guess who is this person and woman/human being which is always defying us. She is LOVED and HATED, but the genius and myths were always like that, loved for some and hated by others, the true ARTISTS AND GENIUS were always like that originating debate because they were DIFFERENT. Today to dismiss Madonna is kind of trendy but Madonna is ETERNAL like all LEGENDS are so as time goes by and as fashions move on she will stay UNTOUCHABLE and IMMORTAL as one of the most SINGULAR human beings that come to this planet and universe. Madonna is a mix of unique physical and personal beauty that combined together made the person who she is until today: A GODDESS between GODS.

Eva Perón was the president's wife (Juan Domingo Perón). Se was very active supporting her husband and participating in his politics of social justice. Because of her women could vote in Argentina and a lot of more things. She was very important. She got cancer and was struggling with her desease. Spite of her being sick she gave speaches and continued with her work. The song had to do with that

Beautifully performed by Madonna! Evita is a great musical from 1976 by British composer of musical theater Andrew LLoyd Webber (who also composed Phantom of the Opera, Cats, Jesus Christ Superstar, etc.) and lyricist Tim Rice. If you ever have a chance to see it, it's well worth it. The film adaptation Evita came out twenty years later (finally!) with Madonna in the lead role. It's is a wonderful adaptation of the musical, acted out as a rock opera, i.e. with only singing parts (no spoken dialogue).

I disagree. She was good in Desperately Seeking Susan. She's great in Dick Tracy and A League of Their Own. And she's amazing in Dangerous Game, which many people haven't seen. She's not very good in most of the other roles she's had. I've always thought she had the potential to be a great actress but just needed a great script and the right director. It's only happened a few times.

I totally agree.I'll leave their own it's just a great movie in general and she's great in that small role. Desperation season is just a great movie to and I feel like she put herself into that character and it's one of the few movies that Madonna actually excelled in. I don't see like the next best thing though even though her acting is not the best.

Evita is a rock opera (a stage musical with no spoken dialogue, only singing). Originally mounted on the stage in the 70s it became a movie on 1997. Evita is about Eva Peron the first lady of Argentina in the 1940s. Her husband was a dictator president, and she was a central figure to his popularity. As first lady she championed the poor, but she also stole a bunch of money and was some what of tyrant. She was a very very politically powerful woman while she never held an official title or office. Even today, Eva Peron is both loved as a saint in Argentina and deeply hated.

She complained about her experience in Argentina, as they eat a lot of meat there, and she is a vegetarian. And she exploited that look of Eva Perron. After begging to get the part. And another film was shot using the US version of a budget, using the crowds and the sets, to make a more realistic version of the life of Eva Perron, low budget and Argentinian.
