Was begann wie ein Fernwanderweg wurde Etappe zu Etappe immer mehr zum Pilgerweg.
Ein einmaliger Weg, der auf den Spuren des Heiligen Franziskus von Florenz nach Assisi führt. Ein Weg der bedeutende Stätten aus dem Leben und Wirken des Heiligen aus Assisi miteinander verbindet; eine Pilgerroute, eine franziskanische Erfahrung durch die Gebiete, die der Heilige selbst auf Wanderschaft geprägt hat. Die Faszination dieses Wegs sind eng mit der Geschichte des Franziskus verknüpft: die Landschaften, über die der Blick des Pilgers schweift, sind dieselben, die einst das Herz des Heiligen erfreuten.
Aber auch der Zuspruch der Bevölkerung und die Hilfe die man auf dem Weg trifft sind einmalig und geben Freude und Kraft. Besonders schön war auch die nette Begleitung von Doris aus Wien in den ersten drei Tagen. 250 Kilometer an 16 Tagen mit 8000 hm bergauf und 7700 hm bergab waren eine großartige Erfahrung. Meist in Unterkünften aufgrund des Regens, aber manchmal auch im Zelt habe ich die im Oktober /November langen Nächte verbracht. Assisi ist dem vorläufigen Ende meines Pilgerweges ein großartiges Ziel mit einem sehr herzlichen Empfang im Pilgerbüro. Der Abschluss bildete die täglich stattfinde Pilgermesse am Abend.
Assisi ist eine bemerkenswerte Stadt, ein touristisches Highlight. Doch hätte Franziskus dieser Trubel gefallen?

What began as a long-distance hiking trail gradually became more and more like a pilgrimage route.
A unique path that follows in the footsteps of Saint Francis from Florence to Assisi. A path that connects important sites from the life and work of the saint from Assisi; a pilgrimage route, a Franciscan experience through the areas marked by the saint himself during his wanderings. The fascination of this route is closely linked to the story of Francis: the landscapes over which the pilgrim's gaze wanders are the same ones that once delighted the saint's heart.
But the encouragement from the population and the help you meet along the way are also unique and give you joy and strength. The nice company from Doris from Vienna during the first three days was particularly nice. 250 kilometers in 16 days with 8000 m uphill and 7700 m downhill was a great experience. I spent the long nights in October/November mostly in accommodation due to the rain, but sometimes also in a tent. Assisi is a great destination for the provisional end of my pilgrimage with a very warm welcome in the pilgrim office. The conclusion was the daily pilgrimage mass in the evening.
Assisi is a remarkable city, a tourist highlight. But would Francis have liked this hustle and bustle?
