I was on that 100th anniversary train with the tour group. We stopped in McBride for cake and drinks with the towns folk. Train was late into PG and PR.
This would be a good trip for VIARail:~ • Vancouver ~ Whistler ~ Quesnel ~ Jasper ~ Prince George & Prince Rupert... Or • Prince Rupert ~ Prince George ~ Jasper ~ Calgary ~ Baniff ~ Kamloops & Vancouver...
I'd ride from Prince George about 60 Km's west and get off, setup Camp and fish for a week. Then I'd break camp. set out my White flag and wait for the Skeena going to Prince George. Great ride! Great crew too.
Yes, that style meal is served at your seat (with wine) in tourist class at your seat in the Panorama car. Not bad, good scenery makes for a good appetite!
Too bad about the weather. At 20:21 there is a very tall waterfall [don't know its name], which is the tallest in North America which one may view from a train.
+canadiancatgreen I believe that is the correct waterfall, but whether or not it's the ninth tallest depends on which reference book you read. The World Waterfall Database is rife with errors, for example.
I'd have to say my main interest is trains but I do like airplanes as well. On my desk at work I have a piston cylinder head from a Boeing 377 "Stratocruiser" and a back pressure gauge from the flight deck - its amazing that such large machines can fly.
