My father and I spent 10 days traveling by trains. We departed Chatham, ON station via train 76 to Toronto on 03/02/2024. The following day we boarded train 1 to Vancouver arriving on 03/07/2024. It was a great trip and I can't wait to do it again one day.

how much did you pay for the room for 2?
@KyleLovesTrains

Good question and I should have included that in the video. When we booked ( Oct 2023 ) it was before the reservation system changed so the price was a bit higher than it is now. Round-trip price at that time was $8,000 Canadian dollars. When I check for next March right now it shows me that the price round-trip is $6,280 Canadian dollars. Those prices are for 2 people in a cabin for 2.

Great video! How are u able to choose a specific car or cabin? We are interested in the prestige class, the suite on the " Glacier Park" car. We are from the US, any tips u have on booking a year out.

@michaelneal2386 the easiest way to select your room and specific car is to call in and book over the phone. Now is the best time to book for a year out to get the best selection on rooms and prices. In fact, I am rebooking this week for 5 of us for next March. Good luck and you will love the trip! Also, don't forget to sign up for the preference program to collect points before you book!

@@KyleLovesTrains Very nice video. May we ask why do a round trip? Is one way not enough to see everything or do you get to see different things becoz of night and day switch? If a senior woman is traveling alone, and wants to be left alone, which class would you recommend?

The year before COVID shut things down, I took this trip, Vancouver to Toronto. The train I was on had 24 coaches and either 2 or 3 locos depending on where we were. I was in a cabin for one and, altho slightly smaller than an Amtrak roomette, it was totally comfortable. The bed, more so!. Food was stupendous and constantly changing every meal, every day. Staff absolutely great! We arrived in Toronto just 4 hrs late. (the previous year, when i was originally scheduled to take the train ' it was running a full day and MORE late. Then they totally revised the schedule and built in much more slack time!!). I have actually always hoped that any train I was on would run late---very! They still have to feed you and if you don't make a connection they provide accommodations! Mountains were spectacular! Nice vid; certainly brought back pleasant memories. I may do it all again !

Thanks for the trip! I’m taking this in November. I can’t wait!

Nice footage thank you. Being so late is an amazing win! When we arrived in Jasper last May it was very early morning and much of the view was obscurred due to wildfire smoke. We had at least one buffer car behind the Park Car sadly, so that classic shots of the rails disappearing were not possible. Arriving in Vancouver well into the day, another win. We arrived well before sunrise.

Thank you so much for the wonderful narration, showing and telling us about places that most videos do not. The Canadian has been on my bucket list for many years; I think this is the only way I'm going to get to ride it.

When you were stopped in Edmonton looking toward the downtown, the empty space with the piles of dirt is actually the old City Centre Airport. If you were looking out of the other side of the train you could almost see my house. I'm taking the Canadian from Edmonton to Toronto and back over Christmas.

Nice perspective. Learned a couple things too - hot water can be thrown in the air safely in -30 and deer love stopped trains. But you know, not all deer are herbivores right 🤣🤣

Thank you for sharing your trip. My husband and I are going to try the Canadian in the future. We can’t decide if we want to do snow or warmer weather. We live in southeastern Virginia where we use to get a good snow each winter, but haven’t seen a single flake in the last three years. I love snow. In our early 70s, we are not sure if we are ready for the well below freezing temperatures you experienced. I can say that the multi hour delays don’t bother us at all. As long as there is food and drink, we will be happy just to be on the train.

I would love to try the train in the warmer months but there are a few points to consider. If traveling when it is warm, I noticed the view may be blocked a lot more due to trees being in full bloom and full of leaves. Also, the price is MUCH higher in the warm seasons running from mid-April to mid-October. I booked March because there is more light in the day, it is before the prime season prices begin and the leaves are not on the trees yet. Whatever you decided, I am sure you will love the trip! If price is not a big deal, maybe check out the prestige option! No bunk beds and even better accommodations / ensuite bathroom.

@erniewarinner7692 most superheroes from Calgary Edmonton and Winnipeg prefer Vancouver as their base of operations mostly because of the warm weather in bcs lower mainland and as the largest city in western Canada Vancouver would mostly get superheroes from within the western provinces bc Alberta Saskatchewan Manitoba and Ontario too and Vancouver has been the superhero capital of Canada since hosting the 2010 Winter Olympics Vancouver is the first Canadian city in history to create a lateral entry program for superheroes that are interested in relocating to the west coast and establishing Vancouver and the lower mainland as their base of operations

@@KyleLovesTrains Thanks for the information. Price is an issue, but since we don’t travel that often, we try to travel top drawer if at all possible. Prestige is what we are planing. Just trying to justify the cost. Mid April is what we are looking at right now.

I’m departing on the Canadian in just about a month with my parents! We are going from Toronto all the way to Vancouver! I will be flying into Toronto from Minneapolis, and they will be taking the Amtrak in and eventually ending up at Toronto Union Station Where we will meet up for a great adventure across Canada on the train. They will split off in Vancouver and head off to glacier national Park in Montana where I will stay behind in Vancouver and board a plane heading for Australia.

Please....No music. It is very annoying. And please pan slooooowly, and just once. Do not pan back and forth. Otherwise...GREAT video.

I agree on the panning but not the music. I tried just with the background noise of the train and people, but that was super boring. I may try the return journey without music, we will see.
